Show lists in the inspector and variables in their own tab (#252)
The List tab could show one list at a time and was the only place to see its items. A list now shows its items right where it lives, and a new Variables tab shows all variables of an asset or placed object. - InlineList draws the items of a list under its row in the inspector, in struct fields and in the Variables tab. A list inside a list or a struct field is drawn the same way, one step indented. - The index column is the indent. Items sit under their list without an own margin, and the index column is 16 px wide instead of 28 px. - Above 20 items (INLINE_LIMIT) the rest collapses into "... N more - open in tab". During a run the rows show the values from the game. - ListHead puts "N items" and "+ Item" in one row. "N items" opens the list in a tab. A separate Open button squeezed the counter to zero width in the narrow inspector column. - VariablesEditor shows every variable of a behavior asset, a variables asset or a placed behavior. On an asset it edits the declarations. On a placed object an edit only overrides that object, with the usual reset and push buttons. - Opening a list inside a tab adds a new tab and keeps the open one. valuesKey gives each list its own document, so a list that is already open is shown instead of opened twice. - Titles read "Pickup · Variables" or "Listy · nums · [3]". The tab closes when its asset or object is deleted. - Lists on node inputs stay inline only, a node owns no variables. - The List tab, ListEditor and the __gm.list hook are gone. Tests: - ./check.sh: 181 files, 2645 tests, CHECK EXIT 0 - GM_STEPS=1,21,22,32: ALL PASSED, 123 checks - e2e 21 is rewritten for inline lists and the new tab, 22 and 32 are adapted. Sum in README: 1486 (+6 in 21, -1 in 22), counted by hand. - Counter-probes fail as expected: sub-lists not told apart (1 unit test), sub-list replacing the open tab, all items drawn inline (60 rows instead of 20), no live values (0 rows at 24 items in a run). Ping an asset from its inspector link instead of selecting it (#221)
A single click on an asset link used to select the asset. That swapped
the inspector over to the asset, so the object being edited was gone
and the second click of a double-click landed on a different row. A
click now pings the asset in the asset panel, like Unity does in its
Project window, and a double-click opens it.
- state.pingAsset(id) emits a new `ping` event. It runs no command and
leaves the selection alone, like openAsset.
- ListView.ping(id) draws an accent overlay on the row. It stays full
for 200 ms and is gone after 1 s, driven by onFrame. destroy cancels
the animation.
- The asset panel expands the group, scrolls to the row and pings it.
- The capture listener and followedLink in the inspector are gone.
The inspector is no longer rebuilt, so pressCount on the label is
enough. followsPress and pressOf are no longer exported from ui/.
- The "Asset" and "Part of" rows of a scene object were a ghost button
that selected the asset. They are now a link label with the same
ping and open behaviour, next to a read-only field with the name.
- The link logic lives in linkLabel() in fieldFactory.ts. createFieldRow
and the asset row share it.
- TextField gets a readOnly option: no focus, no caret, no hover.
- New hook __gm.assetPing(). inspectorLink also reports the field
next to the label (value, readOnly).
Findings:
- Renaming an asset while its object was selected left the old name
in the inspector. This was already the case with the old button.
The refresh now updates the name.
Tests:
- ./check.sh: 151 files, 2228 tests, CHECK EXIT 0 (before 150 / 2226).
New: tests/ui/list-ping.test.ts for pingAlpha and pingAsset.
- e2e 1-16,28 on the final build: ALL PASSED, 575 checks.
28l-ii has 9 checks instead of 5.
- Counter-checks, each failing exactly at its check: ping also selects,
no follow-up frame (alpha stays 0.55), inspector never opens, field
takes focus, name not refreshed, label not a link.
- Check total 1345, calculated. CI last counted 1336 at

Open a sprite's texture or shader from the menus and inspector (#221)
A sprite's texture and shader were only reachable by hunting for them
in the asset panel. Every place that shows such a reference now leads
straight to it.
- Object menu (hierarchy and scene view): "Open texture" and "Open
shader" sit right below "Open asset" when the sprite has one. The
object's own values count, so an overridden shader opens the
override.
- Asset context menu: the same entries at the top.
- Inspector: every asset field with a value shows its label as a blue,
underlined link. One click selects the asset, a double click opens
it. An override stays gold and gets the underline too.
- The first click rebuilds the inspector, so the second one lands on a
different row. The inspector catches that second click before any
row sees it.
- New pure rule `references.ts`: the asset behind a reference field. A
frame leads to its sheet. Kinds without a tab (palette, font, sound)
get no menu entry.
- `followsPress` in `clicks.ts` keeps the double-click window and
tolerance in one place.
- `activateAsset` in `actions.ts`: opening means the same everywhere
as a double click in the asset panel, so a scene also becomes the
active one. The asset panel uses it too.
Tests:
- ./check.sh: 150 files, 2226 tests, CHECK EXIT 0 (before 148/2214).
- 12 new unit tests: 6 for the reference rule, 4 for the link in
createFieldRow, 2 for followsPress.
- 5 new e2e checks in 28l-ii: both menus, the link's look, click
selects, double click opens.
- e2e 1-16,26,28,35,39,40 on the final build: ALL PASSED, 732 checks.
- Counter-probes: no "Open ..." entries, no underline and a second
click never recognised each fail exactly at their checks.

Vector shapes can be combined by union, subtract and more (#187)
Building a shape out of simpler ones meant drawing the result point by point. The Vector Art tab now selects several shapes at once and combines them with a boolean operation into one ordinary shape. - Ctrl/Cmd+click in the tab and Ctrl or Shift+click in the shape list add a shape to the selection. Shift stays pan in the canvas. - A COMBINE block in the inspector offers Union, Subtract, Intersect and Exclude. Subtract removes every upper shape from the lowest one. - The result replaces the lowest selected shape and keeps its name, colours, stroke and place in the order. It is one undo step. - Curves are flattened to 0.2 canvas pixels, a circle gets about 48 points. Open lines and single shapes cannot be combined, the buttons are off and a hint gives the reason. An empty result is rejected. - Delete now removes every selected shape, and the selection drops shapes that no longer exist. - The geometry comes from clipper2-ts 2.0.1, pinned. It has no dependencies and speaks even-odd directly. Only the engine module is imported, the bundle grows by 55 kB instead of 110 kB. Findings: - clipper2-js was tried and dropped. It pulls in Angular 15 with a high npm audit finding and no fix. - Pixi finds holes by containment, not by even-odd depth. An island inside a hole would be drawn as a hole again. Result rings are emitted outer ring before its islands, and a test mirrors Pixi's rule. - A depth sort turned out to be dead code in a counter-check and was removed. A pixel check in 47h stayed green without the subtract and now checks both colours. Tests: - ./check.sh: 134 files, 1986 tests, exit 0 (before 133 / 1968) - npm run build: exit 0 - GM_STEPS=47, freshly seeded: ALL PASSED, 44 checks (before 39) - 18 new unit tests, 5 new e2e checks in block 47h - Five counter-checks bite, originals restored and verified with cmp - Check sum 1222 in README and wiki, calculated (1217 + 5) Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

A selected vector shape has its own inspector rows (#129)
Stage 4 of #129. Until now the inspector showed the rows of the asset when a shape was selected, so there was no way to give a shape a colour, an outline or a place in the drawing order without editing the project file. The rows for a shape now sit where every other selection puts its rows. - SHAPES lists every shape of the asset, topmost row drawn last, the same way a layer list reads. Selecting the asset itself shows the same list below its own rows, with no shape selected. - Each row paints its shape with the commands the rasterizer uses (shapeDrawing plus paintDrawing) into a 22 px swatch, the whole canvas scaled in, so the row also says where on the canvas the shape sits. - The four order buttons from the issue (forward, to front, backward, to back) sit in two rows of two, and a row can be dragged to another place with a marker line. They are disabled when there is nothing to move. - VECTOR SHAPE carries name, fill, opacity and an outline checkbox, the checkbox adding and removing the stroke instead of hiding it; line colour and width appear with it. A dragged colour slider is one undo step, the style rows going through previewingHandlers like every other row. - A line width of 0 is no stroke, which the command rejects, so the row clamps at 0.1. Findings: - locate('Outline') aims beside the control, because it gives the centre of the label text and a wider label pushes a fixed offset out of the field. __gm.inspectorField(label) knows the centre of the control. - A click into a text field sets the cursor and selects nothing, so a typed hex landed appended to the old one and parseHex returned null without anything failing - typeText only checks that the text is contained. A Ctrl+A goes first now. - Four buttons side by side cut "Backward" to "Backw...", which only the screenshot showed. Two rows of two now, as in the tilemap panel. Tests: ./check.sh 128 files, 1897 tests (was 127/1883). Full e2e suite locally instead of only CI because the change sits in the inspector and touches every selection: ALL PASSED - 1179 checks (was 1172), module 47 at 24 checks (was 17). Three counter-checks hold: not reversing the list fails 1 unit test and 2 e2e checks, dropping the gap correction when dropping a row fails 2 unit tests and the drag check, and a constant signature kills module 47 because the outline rows never appear. Vector art has a tab to draw in, which is stage 3 of #129
Stages 1 and 2 gave the asset a model and a picture, but the only way to put a shape into it was a test calling mutate. The tab closes that gap: what you draw there is what the sprite in the scene carries, with no extra step, because the fingerprint changes and the picture registry of #185 redraws. - The tab has a header with Select, Pen, Grid and Fit, a chequerboard behind the canvas and the canvas itself as a frame. It paints with the same commands as the rasterizer, paintDrawing being exported from viewport/vectorArtPicture.ts for it, so the tab cannot drift away from the picture. - Pen sets points on a click and pulls the handles out on a drag, both of them mirrored; a click on the first point closes the ring and Esc ends an open line. - Select drags a point, a handle or a whole shape, a click on an edge puts a point there, a double click takes one away, and Alt turns a corner round and back. Delete removes the selected shape. - The rules grew inside polygonEdit.ts instead of a second module, as the plan says, so a collider polygon and a frame outline get the same behaviour where it applies. - A point on a curved edge splits the curve by de Casteljau instead of cutting it: both halves together draw exactly what was there before. - A curved edge is walked instead of measured over its chord, or a click on the bow of a curve would grab nothing; the same walk carries the test for the inside of a ring. - One gesture is one undo step. The preview writes the model directly and the old state is put back on release before the command runs, which is the pattern the frame outlines of #141 already use. - state.ts gained a selection kind "shape". The inspector shows the rows of the asset for it, the shape list with colour, opacity and stroke being stage 4. One counter-check was no counter-check: disabling the pen's closing tolerance by multiplying it with 0 left the run green, and rightly so, because the closing click lands on exactly the screen coordinate point 0 came from, so the distance is 0 and <= 0 is true. Only an unsatisfiable condition really switched it off, and then 2 checks fail. A second trap on the way: a false && in front of the guard breaks the TS narrowing, npm run build bails out, and two runs went against the old bundle. Tests: check.sh 127 files, 1878 tests, EXIT 0 (was 126 / 1860). Full e2e suite ALL PASSED - 1172 checks, module 47 alone 17 (was 10). 18 new unit tests in tests/editor/ring-edit.test.ts and 7 new e2e checks in blocks 47c and 47d. Two counter-checks hold: no de Casteljau fails 1 unit test, measuring a curve over its chord fails another. Originals checked back with cmp and rebuilt. |

User management: signing in is required before anything is loaded, the sign-in screen is drawn in the same canvas (user name, password as bullets, Enter moves on and submits) and the editor is built only after it; the API gained auth/session, auth/login and auth/logout while every other route answers 401 without a session, projects carry an owner and a foreign one comes back as 404, accounts live in data/users.json with a password hash and sessions as files in data/sessions with a sliding 30 days, so a build under the open tab does not sign anybody out; Logout sits at the far right of the toolbar and, as asked in the issue, does not reload the page: Editor.dispose() takes the editor down while the canvas stays, which is why the autosave, the focus handlers, the window listeners of the tilemap panel, the shortcuts and the plugins all got a way back; the tools sign in as e2e (tools/lib/auth.mjs, password from GAME_MAKER_E2E_PASSWORD or the git-ignored data/e2e-password.txt) and the browser gets the same session by cookie, new e2e module 45 covers the screen, the wrong pair, the bullets, logout without a reload and signing in again, new unit tests for HttpAuthStore and for what a session leaves behind (#177)

A graph that grew past one screen needs somewhere to say what a part of it is for (#38)
game-maker / suite (push) Successful in 6m13s
The graph could hold any number of nodes and said nothing about which of them belonged together. Groups and comments are two separate things, as decided in the issue: a group is a titled box that carries the nodes it encloses, a comment is free text that carries nothing. Both live as optional arrays on Graph, not as registry nodes. A comment that were a real node would run through the interpreter, show up in the drop palettes and be compiled into a shader — the wrong place for a piece of text. As arrays on Graph they exist in all four graph kinds at once, and a document without them means exactly "no groups", so no format bump. Membership is computed when the box is grabbed, never stored: the center of a node inside the box travels with it, and a node dragged out is simply out. A box inside a box travels with the outer one, its own nodes included. A group is grabbed by its title bar only — its body stays transparent to the pointer, or a rubber band could never be drawn across the nodes it holds. Deleting a box deletes the box; the nodes stay where they are, because a box that silently took ten nodes with it would be the most expensive surprise in the feature. The color is a free picker, and the title color follows from it: relative luminance per WCAG, threshold at 0.179 where the two contrast ratios meet — not 0.5, which would pick white on mid grey where black reads better. Resizing snaps the far edge to the grid, not the width, so the corner that is not being dragged stays put. The minimum size rises in whole steps for that reason: 80 is no multiple of 24, so a box squeezed to the stop would have sat off-grid in exactly the mode meant to keep it on. A shared value belongs to no behavior, so it becomes an asset of its own (#91)
game-maker / suite (push) Failing after 8m59s
This reverses the design of the previous commit. `PropertyDef.scope` is gone without replacement: a behavior variable is an object property again, without exception, and sharing is something you point at rather than something you declare twice. A **Variables asset** is declarations and nothing else -- no graph, no position, never placed, no tab of its own (`TAB_OF_ASSET` is already `Partial<>`, so that costs no line). A `Variables` node names one through its new `variablesAsset` setting, empty meaning the behavior's own variables as before, and then reads and writes one value per key for the whole run. Its property list follows the chosen source, which was the actual request: a value another graph declared is now offerable, where before every participant had to declare the name itself. That deletes more than it adds (-72 lines net): `globalConflicts` and its run-stopping kind clash, `SetVariableScopeCommand`, the scope picker, both object-inspector filters and the "shared by the whole run" note on the placed object. A typo is no longer a silent second variable -- naming an asset is picking from a list. And two Variables assets may carry the same key without meeting, because the asset is the key, not the name. The one shape it copies is the one that already existed: `Set state` picks its machine the same way. Lifetime is unchanged. The bag is built at `BehaviorSystem.start()` from the declarations and never written back, so playing in the editor cannot change the project -- which is the whole reason a counter must not be an object property (`World.syncToModel` would `commit()` it, and the coin counter would stand at 7 for good). Full symmetry across that gap, without mirroring anything. Two named wires: `Inspector.liveVariables` shows the values as they stand while a run is on and falls back to the declarations when it ends, and `adoptDeclarations()` takes a key into the run *only where the document changed it since the last sync*. Without that condition any unrelated project edit would snap a running counter back to its starting value; a counter-test bends exactly that and falls over. Nothing was ever cached, incidentally: `GraphInterpreter` only pulse-caches nodes without a `read`, and the variable node has one. The wire was missing. The state machine `Scope` row is now an ordinary `enum` row through `createFieldRow`. It was hand-built from an `HStack` with a ghost dropdown and began ~34px left of every value above it; the explanations beside `Local` and `Global` are gone from the menu, the sentence below the row keeps saying it. Machine scope is otherwise untouched -- `StateMachineAsset.scope`, `SetMachineScopeCommand`, `stateBag()` and its persistence all stand, so #59 stays closed as built and `Scope` as a type now carries machines alone. Six counter-proofs, each biting at its own guard. One of them did not bite at first: the suggestion list was computed twice, in `nodeSection` and `portSection`, so only the browser test covered the request itself. It is one named function now, `variableChoices`, with a unit test of its own. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Hold back an inspector rebuild while a field in it has focus
A rebuild destroys the widget being typed in, and a typed value can change the very structure that decides whether a rebuild is needed -- a field that says how many ports a node has. That made such a field unusable: every keystroke previewed, the preview emitted 'project', refreshValues() saw the signature change and threw the row away. Dragging the value worked only because a drag keeps receiving globalpointermove on the destroyed widget. So refreshValues() now postpones a due rebuild while the focus sits inside the inspector, and runs it as soon as the field is left. Values are safe in the meantime: TextField.setValue ignores an edit in progress. Two handles for that in the toolkit. FocusManager.isWithin(node) also replaces the parent chain refreshLive() walked by hand, and changeHandlers lets a panel notice that the focus has gone -- there was no signal for that before. Nothing in the editor can trigger this today, since the Sequence setting that did is gone. It is the ground for the List tab, where a row that adds or deletes an item changes the structure while you type. The e2e check therefore builds the case out of real parts: type into a field, set the object's parent from outside -- the parent is part of the structure signature -- and confirm the input survives and the rebuild follows on Escape. Add a Container tab and propagate template edits
The Container tab reuses SceneViewport against any object holder, so a container template is edited exactly like a scene. Right-click no longer changes the selection, which previously made nesting impossible: opening the menu on a container loaded it, and "Place in container" then targeted itself. Template edits (move, rename, override) now reach already-placed instances per slot, through a shared templateSync used by both the apply path and the plain object commands. Copies the user has touched keep their own value. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Trim needless comments and fix the picker width
Remove comments that only restate the code, keeping the section banners and the notes that carry a reason, a measured fact or an external contract. ButtonOptions.width claimed to be a fixed width but only set minWidth, so the Graph and Texture pickers grew with the name they showed. It is now what it promises, with a separate minWidth for the buttons that have two forms. Narrow buttons shrink their padding, otherwise a 24px icon button had 8px left for its glyph and truncate dropped it entirely. __gm.labelsDropped() guards that class: the overflow guard only saw text that was too wide, never a label truncated to nothing. Add a Texture tab for defining frames
A new Texture tab next to Scene/Game/Graph shows a texture sheet and lets frames be drawn on it: drag to create, move, resize via eight handles, edit name and rect in the inspector, Delete to remove. Every change is a command, so one gesture is one undo step. "Slice..." cuts a grid from columns and rows with optional offset and spacing, previewing the resulting frame count and cell size live. Sprites pick a frame instead of the whole texture through the same `texture` property: it now holds either a texture id or a frame id. Frame ids come from the same generator and are document-wide unique, so one picker, one property and one set of instance overrides cover both cases, and every sprite written before this still means the same thing. A Graphics fill ignores a Pixi sub-texture's frame and draws the whole image, because it derives its uvs from the shape bounds and the inverted style matrix. The cutout is therefore a matrix (`viewport/textureFill.ts`), which keeps a sheet at a single GPU upload no matter how many of its frames are on screen at once. Add textures for sprites
Images are uploaded to a content-addressed blob endpoint and stored as data/textures/<sha256>.<ext>; the project only keeps the file name. The sprite points at a texture asset through an ordinary property of the new kind `asset`, so instance overrides, "Apply to container", "Reset to asset", undo and `Set property` work without any extra code. The new kind also replaces the ad-hoc asset picker the graph nodes faked as an enum. Import goes through + -> Texture, drag & drop onto the canvas or Ctrl+V. Images wider than 2048px are downscaled client-side and re-encoded to WebP if needed, because nginx caps uploads at 1MB; an image that already fits is uploaded byte for byte so pixel art is never resampled. The sprite colour default changes from red to white, since colour tints the texture multiplicatively and a tint of white shows an image as it is. Add ESLint and Prettier, and close the node test gaps
Tooling: - Prettier as the single formatting authority (110 columns, single quotes, measured against the existing style); Markdown excluded because table-cell padding turns the README glossary into 1000-character lines. - Type-aware ESLint ending in eslint-config-prettier, so a rule always means "this is a bug", never "this looks different". - .editorconfig and an `npm run check` that runs typecheck, lint, format and tests in one go. Findings fixed on the first run: three more duplicate imports, four String(unknown) calls (parameter types narrowed instead of casts), two dead initialisers, two redundant casts, a console.log for a real error. Two warnings were false here and are disabled with a reason in place. Tests 132 -> 269: - node-catalog.test.ts covers every node with a run(), with a guard that fails when a new node has no row. - behavior-events.test.ts covers the ten event nodes through a running World, checking timing rather than existence. - Input's state machine (press/release/releaseAll) is reachable without DOM events now; the DOM handlers are thin adapters. Compare fell back to == without a configured operator although the schema default is <; aligned. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |
