Cut a sound into named clips, as a texture into frames (#357)
A sound could only be cut to one stretch, set on the asset itself. To
play two parts of one file, the file had to be imported twice. Now a
sound is always the whole file, and its clips are the stretches of it,
each with a name and a cut of its own.
- A clip is { id, name, props } on SoundAsset.clips. Its id shares the
generator with asset ids, so a sound field holds a sound or a clip,
as a texture field holds a texture or a frame.
- props are the cut: start, end, the fades and their curves, reverse.
Volume, loop, sound FX and bus stay on the sound for all its clips.
The cut rows left the sound's schema for CLIP_ROWS.
- findSound resolves either id. Play sound, the Sample of an
instrument, a Reverb impulse, song items, the scheduler and the test
sound of the Sound FX tab all go through it.
- Every sound field offers each sound followed by its clips, "Kick",
"Kick / Clip 1". A clip that is gone reads as "<id>?".
- The Sound tab has a strip under the ruler with the clips as bands.
A drag there makes a clip, a click picks one, beside the bands the
sound. Only the picked clip has handles. Reverse, fades and curves
in the header work on it and are greyed out without one.
- Whole file is gone from the header, as the user asked.
- Picking a clip is a selection of its own, like a frame. The
inspector shows its name, its cut rows and Delete clip. Delete
takes it away without asking, as with a frame. Ctrl+Z brings it
back.
- Copies get fresh clip ids: Duplicate, Embed a copy, a song
duplicated with its takes, and the copy a split or paste makes of
an embedded take. An item on a clip plays the same clip of its copy.
- A double-click on a song item playing a clip opens its sound with
the clip picked. The Sound row of an item on an embedded take
offers the take and its clips, which no list shows.
- A new take stays the whole sound. Clips are made by hand, as the
user decided.
- No migration in the code, as the user decided. The one project
with cut sounds was changed over by hand.
Deviation from the issue: deleting a used clip does not warn. A frame
does not warn either, and the issue had promised "like a frame".
Tests:
- Unit sound-clips (new): 11 green, 7 counter-checks each red
- Unit sounds, embedded: adjusted to clips, green
- e2e 34 (melektaus-atx): ALL PASSED, 90 checks (3 new, 12 rewritten)
- Counter-check in the browser: clips left out of the sound fields,
the picker check fails
- Gate (melektaus-atx): CHECK EXIT 0, 271 files, 4194 tests

Keep a recorded take inside its song (#355)
A take used to land in the Assets panel as "Song – Take N", next to every other sound of the project. Now a song can keep a sound, a pattern or a sound FX to itself: an ordinary asset whose new field `owner` names the song. Everything that finds an asset by its id finds it, so playing, the tabs and the game need no change. Only the places that list assets leave it out. - `core/music/embedded.ts` holds the rules: which types can be embedded, `listedAssets`, the title "Song › Take 1", and the rows an embedded sound hides (Loop, Bus). - One user per embedded asset. `SetSongCommand` settles the song after every edit: a place naming an asset an earlier place claimed, or one of another song, gets a copy, and what nothing names any more goes in the same undo step. The outcome is worked out once, so a redo brings back the same copies. - A split, Ctrl+D and a paste get that for free. The clipboard keeps the embedded assets of the copied items, so a paste after a delete brings the take back. - Deleting a song deletes what it keeps. Duplicating it copies that and points the copy at the copies. A duplicate of an embedded asset is a project asset. - The item menu has Open, Make project asset and Embed a copy. - An embedded item carries a bullet in front of its name. The first pick was a diamond, which the gate's font test refused: the UI font has no glyph for it. - A take is "Take 1", 2, … numbered per song. With the song gone while it uploads, it becomes a project sound under a free name. - Left out of: the Assets panel, every asset picker, the sound FX menu of a track, the test sound of the Sound FX tab and the naming of new assets. Delete on an embedded asset only says where it lives. A ping lights up its song. - Loading drops an `owner` whose song is gone, the asset stays as a project asset. No migration: older projects have no owner. Tests: - Unit embedded (new): 13 green, 6 counter-checks each red - Unit take, song, song-edit, asset-fx, asset-ref, serialize and neighbours: 116 green - e2e 65 (melektaus-atx): ALL PASSED, 47 checks (1 new) - Counter-check e2e 65 (asset panel unfiltered): exactly that check red - Gate (melektaus-atx): CHECK EXIT 0, 269 files, 4167 tests Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Route the tracks of a song through a graph (#350)
Every track of a song went straight into its output. Now the Song tab has a second view, Routing: a graph with a node per track and one Output, the links between them sends. A track can go into other tracks, into several at once, and a link has its own volume and the point of the track it taps. - The song asset has a graph like an instrument (SongTrack, SongOutput). heldSongGraph keeps it in step with the tracks on load and in SetSongCommand: a node per track named after it, one output, a new track and every track of an old song linked to the output. Links of gone tracks, doubled links and links closing a loop are dropped. - A link carries an optional send (volume in dB, tap). The inspector shows Volume and Mode for a picked link of a song: Post volume (Post pan), Pre volume (Post FX), Pre volume (Pre FX). SetSendCommand. - NodeDef has two new flags. `fixed` nodes are never added or deleted by hand. Links between `acyclic` nodes may not close a loop, checked in canConnect, dropTargetPort and ConnectCommand. - songBuses gives each track its sends instead of one `into`, and a bus `song:<song>:<track>:#items` for its own items. That bus is what solo closes on a track that only passes a soloed one on. - Mute and solo now act on the sends (trackGates). A muted track passes nothing on, on any tap. A soloed track is heard with what goes into it, through the tracks it goes through, their own items silent. Only sends on a way through a soloed track stay open, so a track going into it and into the output is heard through it only. - SoundLibrary: a bus has either `into` or sends. Each send is tap, delay, level, target. busLatency takes the latest way (arrivalOf), and each send is held back so all ways of a track arrive together (sendDelays). Taps are wired again whenever a chain comes or goes. - The Song tab has Timeline and Routing in its header. The routing uses GraphCanvas with an empty palette. A track linked nowhere shows "Goes nowhere". Delete takes links, never a track node. - Game playings route the same way, the output being the master of the playing. Decided without asking: a send ranges -60 to +12 dB like a track, default 0 dB Post. Mute closes the sends, the track's own level stays. Found on the way: the inspector built the Mode row with the send as it was when the rows were made. Setting Volume and then Mode wrote the old volume back. Both rows now read the current send when they change. Tests: - Unit song-routing (new): 13 green. Sound library: 4 new, 94 green. 11 counter-probes (loop on load, canConnect, solo, solo past the soloed track, mute, preFx latency, graph sync, delete guard, delays, taps, glide), each red. - Existing tests adjusted to the new bus names and send shape: song, bus-fx, song-play, graph registry, edge description. - e2e 65 on melektaus-atx: ALL PASSED, 43 checks (5 new). The first run caught the inspector bug. Counter-probe with the old closure: 2 FAILED. - Gate on melektaus-atx: typecheck, lint, format clean, 2 tests red (registry rule, edge shape), fixed and rerun locally: 56 green. - Not rerun after the per-send solo fix: e2e 65 and the gate. Lay patterns and sounds out on tracks and play them as a song #334
Patterns could only be heard one at a time, in their own tab or from a behavior. A song lays patterns and sounds out on tracks along one time axis and plays them through the scheduler of #332, the third piece of the music tools of #330. - New asset type song under the heading Songs, with four empty tracks, 120 BPM in 4/4 and a grid of a bar. Tempo, meter and grid are rows in the inspector. Tracks, items and the loop are the asset's data, held to their rules on load and in every command. - A track has a name, volume, pan, mute and solo. Each is heard on a bus of its own, so a change reaches what is sounding at once. - A pattern item repeats its pattern for as long as it is, with a transpose and another instrument if wanted. A sound item plays its sound as a clip at its own speed, round and round, through a sound FX if wanted. Both have a volume on top of their track's. - Cut back at the left end or split, an item starts as far into what it plays as the cut is: ticks into a pattern, seconds into a sound. - The tab shows the heads with M, S, volume and pan, the ruler of the Pattern tab and the items, a pattern with its notes, a sound with its waveform, a missing asset red. Patterns and sounds are dragged in from the Assets panel. Body, right and left end move, lengthen and cut back, Alt leaves the grid. Ctrl+C/V/D/A, Ctrl+E splits where playing starts, Delete, arrows. A double-click opens a pattern item in its tab. - What is picked is a new selection of its own, so the inspector shows the item or the track, with a button to delete it. - The scheduler plans clips beside notes. Where the playhead starts or jumps back inside a clip, it is taken up that far into its sound. A clip fades out at the end of its item or of the loop. - The editor plays one piece at a time: a pattern started stops the song and the other way round. - The rules are pure functions in core/music/song, editor/song/ songView and songEdit. Tie two objects with a hinge, a spring, a rope or for good (#154)
Two bodies could not be connected: no door on a hinge, no lamp on
a rope, no wheel on an axle. This is the first step of the issue,
the four joints without a motor. The slider and the motors follow
in a second step under the same issue.
- Joint is a new asset type, placed as a child of the object it
holds, like a collider or a rigidbody. "Add joint…" in the
object menu makes one or places one the project has. An object
takes as many as it needs.
- Where the joint sits is the point it holds its object at. A
hinge and a fixed joint have that one point only. A spring and a
rope end at a connected anchor on the other object, counted in
that object's own units, or in the scene's without one.
- The rows follow the type: length, stiffness and damping for a
spring, length for a rope, an angle limit for a hinge. Length 0
takes the distance the two ends were placed at. The limit counts
from how the two were placed.
- The connected object is an object reference in the schema of the
type. Pasting, containers and removing treat it as they treat
every reference since #258.
- shownFor is a new schema option: a row is shown while an enum of
the same bag holds one of the named values.
- The object needs a rigidbody, its own or one further up. Without
one the joint holds nothing and the console says so once.
- A connected object without a rigidbody is a moving anchor: the
joint has a kinematic body of its own that follows it.
- A connected object destroyed while playing makes the joint let go
with a hint. Removed in the editor the reference empties, so the
joint holds on to the scene. The issue asked for "inactive" there.
- "Add joint" ties two objects while the game runs, from a joint
asset as the template. Destroy on the joint lets go, there is no
Break joint node. Destroy with keep children takes the joints
along with the object.
- The scene view draws a line from each joint to what it holds on
to and rings the held point. A selected spring or rope has a
round handle on its far end, and dragging it is one undo step.
- Joints hold in Play only. The editor run simulates nothing
(#148), and the inspector of a placed joint says so.
- Rapier counts a revolute joint's limits absolutely, not from the
start, so the placed angle is added. Measured with a probe.
- The + menu has 25 types now and no longer fits under its button
on a canvas 800 high. It scrolls there, and e2e 04 scrolls to
the last entry instead of expecting it in view.
Tests:
- Gate on melektaus-atx for this state: 218 files, 3390 tests
(3336 + 54), exit 0.
- e2e 1-16,24,39-46,51,52,57,58 on melektaus-atx: 831 checks, all
pass. Module 41 alone: 25 checks (21 + 4).
- 54 new unit tests: 40 in joints.test.ts (rope, spring, pendulum,
limit, fixed, the other end, the node, containers, paste), 6 for
the line the scene view draws, 4 catalog cases of the node. The
remaining 4 come from tests that make a case per asset type.
- Four new e2e checks in module 41: Add joint from the menu, the
rope to the hook with its line and handle, dragging the handle
with one undo, the bob hanging in Play next to one that falls.
- e2e 04, 40 and 46 count the new type in their lists.
- 21 of 22 unit counter-probes fail their tests. The other one is
equivalent: Rapier ignores removing a joint that left with its
body, the guard stays.
- Three browser counter-probes fail their checks (2, 1 and 2).
- One screenshot looked at: icon, line, handle and the rope rows.
- The e2e sum of 1691 is counted (1687 + 4, 1687 measured by CI

Pick a link on its line and delete it from there (#289)
A link could only be removed through the menu of its port, and the line itself took no input. A transition of a state machine could only be deleted in the list of the inspector. Now the line is the handle, in a behavior's graph and between states alike. - A click on a line selects that link and draws a halo behind it. A press counts within 6 screen pixels of the line, and where two cross the one drawn last wins. - Ctrl-click or Shift-click adds a link or takes it away. The rubber band takes every line it crosses, into the same selection as the nodes and boxes it caught. - Delete or Backspace removes what is picked as one undo step. A right-click on a line offers Hide link and Delete link. - The inspector shows a picked link: the node and port at each end and the type it carries, with Hide link and Delete link below. For several it says how many. - The arrow of a transition is picked the same way, on its name too. Delete or a right-click with Delete transition removes it. - The menu of a port is unchanged, Disconnect included, as answered in the issue. - editor/graph/edgeHit.ts holds the hit test as pure functions, and editor/inspector/edgeSection.ts builds the section. The selection has a new kind edge, and node and annotation carry edgeIds. Decided here: - A hidden link has no line and is never picked this way, also while it is shown on loan. Its mark at the port stays its handle. - The menu of a line speaks about the whole selection, like the menu of a box. With nodes or boxes held alongside it reads Delete N items. - Hiding picked links lets go of them, since no line is left. - A link wins over the box it crosses, and a mark wins over a link. - A transition has no Hide entry. - With nodes or boxes in the selection the inspector keeps showing the node or box, not the link. Tests: - Gate: 201 files, 2982 tests (2967 + 15), exit 0 - e2e, full run: 1635 checks passed (1629 + 6), exit 0 - Smokes: 24 / 19 / 21, exit 0 - The full run was done for exactly this state. - 15 unit tests in tests/editor/edge-selection.test.ts - Six e2e checks with a real mouse, block 6z-xi in module 06 and 26e7 in module 26 - 12 unit counter-probes all fail tests, run on stein2 - Three browser counter-probes fail, the build went through each time: no hit on the line, no halo, a band that skips lines - Screenshots of a picked link and a picked transition looked at before the last build, none after it Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Empty a deleted tile's cells on every tilemap (#268)
Deleting a tile left the cells painted with it in the tilemaps. They drew nothing, blocked nothing and did not show in the delete dialog, but still read as a tile for "Tile at" and stopped a fill. - DeleteAssetCommand empties the cells of a deleted tile on every layer of every tilemap in the same step. Undo puts the tile and its cells back together. - The delete dialog counts them, for example "3 cell(s) on 1 tilemap(s) are painted with it and become empty." (cellsPainted). - presentTile treats a cell naming a missing tile as empty. "Tile at" (World.tileAt) and floodFill use it, so cells already in existing files read and fill as empty. There is no migration. - The brush, the rectangle and the fill check the tile in hand. A tile deleted after it was picked no longer paints new invisible cells, the editor says "Choose a tile to paint with." instead. - Unchanged on purpose: the picker still reports such a cell as naming a tile that no longer exists, and erasing removes it. Tests: - ./check.sh: 195 files, 2823 tests, CHECK EXIT 0 (+6). - GM_STEPS=39,40: ALL PASSED, 100 checks (4 new in 40t). - Full e2e sum is now 1590 (1586 confirmed by CI on round 8, plus 4). - Counter-checks, all fail as expected: 5 in unit tests (delete without emptying, undo without cells, fill and "Tile at" without presentTile, wrong map count) and 3 in the browser (dialog without count, delete without emptying, brush without the check). Split a struct output into one pin per field (#256)
Reading one field of a struct needed its own Expand node, even where the graph already knows the struct type. A split output shows the fields directly on the node, so a Find … Match test becomes a single Equals and the wires keep running left to right. - Right-clicking an output pin offers "Split into <Type> fields" when the type is known and "Split as …" for every other struct asset. The output is replaced by one pin per field with the field's kind. - The type is known for typed struct variables, typed Pack/Expand, fields of another split and item of For each, Find, Match and Item at over a typed list (portSplits.ts). - Right-clicking a field pin offers "Recombine". Splitting drops the edges of the whole output, recombining drops the field edges. One undo step brings them back. - The split is stored as GraphNode.splits and saved with the graph. Copy and paste carry it along. - Field pins follow the struct asset like a typed Expand. A new field gets a pin, a removed field loses pin and edge, a renamed field keeps its edge. Deleting the asset keeps the last fields. The delete dialog counts splits, so it now says "node(s)" instead of "Pack/Expand node(s)". - Renaming a variable carries its split and the field edges along. - At run time the node still produces the whole value. A field pin reads its field like Expand, a missing field reads as empty. - Limits: outputs only, one level, behavior graphs only. Tests: - ./check.sh: 185 files, 2706 tests, CHECK EXIT 0 - e2e GM_STEPS=1-6,54,55: ALL PASSED, 303 checks - New port-splits.test.ts with 12 tests. e2e 6z-vi with 3 checks using a real mouse: split Find.item, wire item.Name into the test and Match.item.Amount into the log (logs 7), recombine. - Counter-checks: without field reads in the interpreter, without rename in the split, without moving edges on rename and without cleanup on field removal one unit test fails each. In the browser, without field reads nothing is logged and without type inference the split entry is missing. - Check total in README: 1520. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Give a list one struct type so every item keeps its shape (#254)
A list of structs used to let every item carry its own fields. Adding an item meant typing the same fields again, and nothing kept the items in step with the struct asset from #253. A list can now name a struct type for its items, and the asset keeps them in shape. - A list variable and a list field get the row Items with Mixed, every struct asset and Make struct type. Make struct type collects every field any item has, so no item loses a field. - A typed item carries its type under the key `$struct` (ITEM_TYPE_KEY). listItems does not count it as a field. - A list that holds anything but structs refuses a type, also when the offending item sits in an override. The console names the list and the count, and the list stays as it was. - In a typed list `+ Item` adds an item with the defaults, without the kind menu. Field names are locked, values stay editable. - The rows of a typed item take their kind from the struct asset (declaredKind in InlineList.ts). An asset field shows the asset picker instead of a text field, as reported in the issue. - A struct item in a mixed list gets its own Type row. Switching a list back to Mixed keeps the type on each item. - syncStructTypes brings marked items into shape and carries renames into them, also inside overrides and nested lists. One undo step. - The delete dialog of a struct asset also counts typed lists. - The game never sees the key. World and sharedState strip it with withoutItemTypes and bagWithoutItemTypes, so a struct stays a plain object at runtime. - Add item and Set item get the setting Type. With a type they only accept a struct with exactly its field names (fitsType in SetItem.ts). Anything else is left out and logged. - The item indent from #252 is back to its old width, the narrow one squeezed the value fields. Not done: writing a variable does not check the type, and the List node offers no type. Found on the way: a test helper in list-of-structs.test.ts called nodes without params. It now passes the same arguments as the interpreter. Tests: - ./check.sh: 183 files, 2679 tests, CHECK EXIT 0 - e2e GM_STEPS=1,21,22,32,54,55: ALL PASSED, 150 checks - e2e GM_STEPS=1-6,21,22,32,54,55 before the follow-up: 404 checks - New: tests/core/typed-lists.test.ts, e2e module 55 with 13 checks - Counter-checks bite in unit and browser, originals restored by cmp Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Define a struct once as an asset and reuse its shape (#253)
A struct used to declare its fields wherever it stood. The same shape in two variables meant typing it twice, and Pack/Expand copied it once without staying in sync. A Struct asset now holds the shape in one place, and every struct that picks it as its type follows it. - New asset type "Struct" (not placeable, group Structs, own icon). The inspector shows its fields with name, kind and default value, and "Open" shows them in the variables tab. - Struct variables and struct fields get a Type row: own fields, any Struct asset, or "Make struct type". With a type the fields come from the asset and cannot be added, renamed or removed there. The values stay per variable, overrides on placed objects still work. - Pack and Expand get the setting Type. With a type their ports are the fields of the asset and read-only in the inspector. - A change to the asset reaches every typed place in one undo step (syncStructTypes). A new field arrives with its default. A removed field goes along with its port, edge and typed value. A renamed field keeps its value in variables, overrides and on ports with edges, also through nested types. - Undo for these edits records plain assignments (Recorder), because the reach of a change is not known in advance. - Cycles such as Loot in Loot, also through another type, are refused and not offered in the picker. - Deleting the asset names how many places use it. Afterwards each place keeps its fields as its own. - Loading reshapes a stale copy in a project file to its type. - "Make struct type" creates an asset from an existing struct and links the place to it. Differs from the plan: - A changed default value applies to new fields and newly typed places only. Existing values stay. - Removing a single field shows no warning. Undo brings it back. Typed lists are left for #254. Lists stay dynamic for now. Found by e2e: after deleting or renaming the type the inspector did not rebuild and kept showing the old name. Fixed, the check was red before. Tests: - ./check.sh: 182 files, 2661 tests, CHECK EXIT 0 - GM_STEPS=1,4,21,22,54: ALL PASSED, 176 checks - 14 unit tests in tests/core/struct-types.test.ts - New e2e module 54 with 14 checks, real mouse. Module 04 counts 23 asset types. - Counter-probes: without the rename pass 4 unit tests fail, without reshaping values 8, without the cycle rule 1. In the browser, without spreading changes and with + Field despite a type, 3 checks fail. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Build your own easing curve and use it on keys and Lerp (#247)
The built-in eases cover the usual shapes, but a game often wants its own: a coin that bounces twice, a door that overshoots and settles. A new asset type holds such a curve, and keys and the Lerp node can pick it instead of a built-in ease. - New asset type "curve": points like in Vector art, x is t and y is the value. A new curve is the straight line from (0, 0) to (1, 1). - One pure evaluation in src/core/model/curve.ts serves the timeline preview, the running game and the Lerp node. - The curve always has one value per t. The end points stay at t 0 and 1, points cannot pass each other, and a handle that reaches past its neighbour is shortened along its direction. Loading a hand-edited file applies the same rules. - Curve tab: click on the line to insert a point that keeps the shape, click on free space to put one there, drag points and handles, double-click or Delete removes, Alt-click toggles round and sharp. Every step is one undo step. - Presets: all 30 built-in eases plus Linear, fitted with adaptive subdivision. Each stays within 0.4 % of the built-in ease. - Preview: a dot runs along the curve once a second, a second dot shows only the value. The Preview button stops it. - Animation keys get "Curve" under Easing with a curve picker. Lerp gets "Curve" under Ease, and its result may overshoot b. - A missing or unpicked curve runs linear. The inspector says so, the node shows it as a problem, and deleting a used curve warns with the number of keys and Lerp nodes. Tests: - ./check.sh: 180 files, 2612 tests, CHECK EXIT 0 - GM_STEPS=1-6,25,53: ALL PASSED, 309 checks - New e2e module 53 with 13 checks, all with the real mouse. Expected values come from its own Bezier evaluation. - Counter-checks bite: without Bezier evaluation 4 unit tests fail, without handle clamping 2. In the browser, a key that cannot find its curve, a click that sets no point and a handle drag that moves the point all turn checks red. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Pick an existing collider or rigidbody from the object menu (#222)
"Add collider" and "Add rigidbody" could only create a fresh asset.
Reusing one meant creating a copy by hand, and a new box collider
never matched the sprite it was added to.
- "Add collider…" and "Add rigidbody…" open a second menu at the same
spot: a search field, "Create new …", a separator, then every asset
of that kind sorted by name. Enter takes the first match.
- An existing asset is placed as a shared child, not copied. An asset
the object already carries is greyed out.
- The rule for when the entries are available lives in one place in
the collider commands. An object without a resolvable asset is
greyed out again, as with the old canAddCollider.
- "Fit to sprite" in the menu of a placed collider sizes it to its
sprite and centres it (position 0,0, z kept) as one undo step.
- Fit writes overrides of that placement, not the asset, because a
collider can now sit on several sprites. A value equal to the asset
value clears the override instead.
- Fit removes the collider's own scale, swaps width and height near
90 degrees and gives a circle the radius that fits (min/2). It is
greyed out for polygon and frame outlines and off a sprite.
- Menu has no submenus, so a second menu opens instead, similar to

Open a sprite's texture or shader from the menus and inspector (#221)
A sprite's texture and shader were only reachable by hunting for them
in the asset panel. Every place that shows such a reference now leads
straight to it.
- Object menu (hierarchy and scene view): "Open texture" and "Open
shader" sit right below "Open asset" when the sprite has one. The
object's own values count, so an overridden shader opens the
override.
- Asset context menu: the same entries at the top.
- Inspector: every asset field with a value shows its label as a blue,
underlined link. One click selects the asset, a double click opens
it. An override stays gold and gets the underline too.
- The first click rebuilds the inspector, so the second one lands on a
different row. The inspector catches that second click before any
row sees it.
- New pure rule `references.ts`: the asset behind a reference field. A
frame leads to its sheet. Kinds without a tab (palette, font, sound)
get no menu entry.
- `followsPress` in `clicks.ts` keeps the double-click window and
tolerance in one place.
- `activateAsset` in `actions.ts`: opening means the same everywhere
as a double click in the asset panel, so a scene also becomes the
active one. The asset panel uses it too.
Tests:
- ./check.sh: 150 files, 2226 tests, CHECK EXIT 0 (before 148/2214).
- 12 new unit tests: 6 for the reference rule, 4 for the link in
createFieldRow, 2 for followsPress.
- 5 new e2e checks in 28l-ii: both menus, the link's look, click
selects, double click opens.
- e2e 1-16,26,28,35,39,40 on the final build: ALL PASSED, 732 checks.
- Counter-probes: no "Open ..." entries, no underline and a second
click never recognised each fail exactly at their checks.

Pixel art can be drawn in its own tab with layers and frames (#130)
Textures are uploaded files named by their content, so they cannot be edited in place. Pixel art is therefore its own asset type, like vector art. Its pixels live in the project and the tab rasters them into a texture that sprites, tiles and animations can use. - New asset types Pixel art and Palette. The first pixel art of a project gets a palette with the 16 PICO-8 colours in the same undo step. Every pixel is a palette index, 0 is transparent. - Each layer on each frame is its own file data/pixels/<sha256>.px. The project only holds the names, so undo swaps names. The browser computes the hash and uploads new cels before the project is saved. - New route POST ?r=pixels in api/lib/PixelStore.php. It answers 201 and 422 for broken data. data/pixels/ is git-ignored. - Tools: pencil, eraser, fill (contiguous or all pixels of a colour), eyedropper, line, rectangle and ellipse (outline or filled), brush size 1 to 8. - Layers can be added, deleted, renamed, reordered, hidden, faded and merged down. Frames can be added, duplicated, deleted and reordered, with onion skin and a small playing preview. - Zoom 1x to 32x in whole steps, grid from 8x, a 3x3 tile preview and Resize... with a 3x3 anchor. - All frames sit side by side in one image. Each frame is a region like a cut texture frame, so texture rows offer "Asset / Frame 2" and the context menu has Create animation from frames. Decisions: - Merging down drops the opacity of the upper layer. Indexed colours know no blends. - Only the last palette colour can be removed. Otherwise the indices of every image using the palette would shift. - Undo stores the whole layer per stroke instead of pixel diffs. - Alt+click picks a colour. It is a mouse gesture, not a shortcut. Follow-up issues: #197 import from texture, #198 selection and flipping, #199 PNG export, #200 more tools. Tests: - ./check.sh: 136 files, 2049 tests (before 135 / 2011). 34 new in tests/core/pixel-art.test.ts, 4 from the icon tables. - e2e module 48 fresh: ALL PASSED, 29 checks, console empty. - Counter-probes bite: five on the unit tests, upload order (2 tests fail) and cels not uploaded in the browser (1 check fails). - Check total 1259 in README is computed (1232 measured in CI + 27). A picture in the editor may now be drawn instead of uploaded, which is the piece #129 (Vector art) and #130 (Pixel editor) both need and neither could build alone: TextureRef.file has been a file name on the server, isTextureFile() checking a sha256 hash plus an extension and TextureLibrary fetching it over HTTP, so an asset that paints its own image had nowhere to put itself - the key now also takes the form gen:<assetId>@<revision>, which an uploaded file can never look like, and everything that only passes a ref along (sprite, tile, tilemap mesh, particle source, shaders, aspect ratio) is untouched because it still sees a Texture; the revision is a string, not a counter, which is the one deviation from the plan in the issue and costs nothing - gen:a1@7 and gen:a1@c0ffee go through the same door, so a generator may fingerprint its own content instead of relying on every command to remember to bump a number; two registries keyed by asset type as a plain string, so a plugin may bring its own type - registerPictureSource(type, read) in the new core/model/generated.ts tells the model canvas size and revision and resolvePicture() builds the ref from it (no rect, no slice, smooth from props.filter like a texture), and registerPictureGenerator(type, draw) in the new viewport/generatedPictures.ts hands out the finished texture, projectPictureFactory(() => state.project) tying the two together per session in App.ts; invalidation is a rule instead of guesswork at twenty call sites: GeneratedPictures<T> holds one picture per asset keyed on the revision and frees the old one as soon as the new is drawn, TextureLibrary destroying it and dropping the crops cut from it, while a generator that cannot draw yet is not remembered but asked again next time - the class imports Pixi as a type only, so the whole bookkeeping is measurable without a GPU; carried along are the picture picker (a drawn asset sits among the textures by name, without frames), the delete warning (counts tiles and animations for it too) and the asset context menu, where "Create sprite from picture" now covers it while "Create animation from texture" stays texture-only because it needs frames; one finding while probing - crop() could not have cut a generated texture at all, a RenderTexture having no source.resource to draw back from and drawImage running onto null, so it is handed out whole, a drawn picture having no sheet whose neighbouring row could bleed in; 18 new unit tests, 10 in tests/core/generated-picture.test.ts (building and splitting the key, an uploaded file is not one, no registry means no picture, resolving to canvas size, a new revision is a new key, a canvas without a size, the filter, the sprite size, picker order) and 8 in tests/viewport/generated-pictures.test.ts (drawing once, freeing the old revision and only for its own asset, null is not remembered, no key means nothing drawn, a session change gives everything back, peek), and three counter-checks hold: dropping generated assets from resolvePicture fails 5 of the 10 core tests, not freeing the old revision fails 1 viewport test, and narrowing the picker back to textures fails 3; no e2e check and the check sum stays 1157, because without a generator the groundwork shows nothing in the browser - that evidence comes with #129 (#185)

Physics stage 1a runs on Rapier: a new Rigidbody child object (body type, mass, gravity scale, damping, fixed rotation, CCD) makes its parent fall, bounce and come to rest in play, colliders gain friction, bounciness and density, the scene gains gravity (0, 980), the new PhysicsSystem steps at a fixed 60 Hz with interpolation in world coordinates and treats a tilemap as static ground, On collision enter gains normal and impulse, play waits for Rapier and does not start without it, and the editor run keeps the old CollisionSystem; the existing collision tests run against both systems unchanged (#146)

Three stores, three importers and three pickers that differ only in their type are one of each (#85)
Refactoring round one: HttpFontStore/HttpSoundStore/HttpTextureStore collapse into a generic HttpFileStore over a FileStore contract; fontImport/soundImport/textureImport share assetImport with an ImportKind per sort; ImagePicker/FontPicker/SoundPicker sit on FilePicker and describe only their row. The group/comment drag logic leaves GraphCanvas for annotationDrag.ts (with its own unit test), declaredRows.ts replaces the duplicated row build in particles.ts and shaders.ts, and dead code in font/sound/compile/emission/transform/actions is gone. A box drawn around a part of the graph is part of it, so a fit frames it and a band catches it (#95)
game-maker / suite (push) Successful in 6m22s
Fit measured the nodes alone: a group drawn around them was cut off, and a graph holding nothing but a comment framed the empty origin. It now frames both sorts together. The rubber band ignored boxes entirely. It catches them now, into the *same* selection as the nodes — `nodeIds` and `annotationIds` side by side — so one drag moves all of it, one Delete removes all of it, and one undo takes it back. A box counts only when the band holds all of it, where a node counts on touching: a group wraps the nodes it holds and therefore overlaps every band drawn over any of them, and since it drags those nodes along, catching it by accident would be felt at once. A node inside a selected group is moved once, not twice — `travellers()` collects everything one gesture carries and lets each thing appear in it a single time. A graph that grew past one screen needs somewhere to say what a part of it is for (#38)
game-maker / suite (push) Successful in 6m13s
The graph could hold any number of nodes and said nothing about which of them belonged together. Groups and comments are two separate things, as decided in the issue: a group is a titled box that carries the nodes it encloses, a comment is free text that carries nothing. Both live as optional arrays on Graph, not as registry nodes. A comment that were a real node would run through the interpreter, show up in the drop palettes and be compiled into a shader — the wrong place for a piece of text. As arrays on Graph they exist in all four graph kinds at once, and a document without them means exactly "no groups", so no format bump. Membership is computed when the box is grabbed, never stored: the center of a node inside the box travels with it, and a node dragged out is simply out. A box inside a box travels with the outer one, its own nodes included. A group is grabbed by its title bar only — its body stays transparent to the pointer, or a rubber band could never be drawn across the nodes it holds. Deleting a box deletes the box; the nodes stay where they are, because a box that silently took ten nodes with it would be the most expensive surprise in the feature. The color is a free picker, and the title color follows from it: relative luminance per WCAG, threshold at 0.179 where the two contrast ratios meet — not 0.5, which would pick white on mid grey where black reads better. Resizing snaps the far edge to the grid, not the width, so the corner that is not being dragged stays put. The minimum size rises in whole steps for that reason: 80 is no multiple of 24, so a box squeezed to the stop would have sat off-grid in exactly the mode meant to keep it on. Fonts: a new asset type, picked from the server or dropped in, worn by text objects (#74)
game-maker / suite (push) Successful in 9m10s
A font asset holds a file and nothing else, the twin of a texture: the server keeps it
content-addressed under data/fonts/{sha256}.{ext}, with the format read from the file's own
four-byte signature (finfo reports fonts inconsistently across libmagic versions). A text
wears one through its ordinary Font property, so overrides, reset, undo and the Properties
node come for free; no font means the editor's own typeface.
The picker lists everything the server holds and renders each row in the face it offers.
The family name is gm-font-<hash16>, never the name inside the file, so two "Regular" cannot
collide. WorldViewport.syncText is the single place that draws it, which covers scene, game
preview and play at once.

Play sprite animations from an animation asset worn through texture
An animation asset is a list of pictures (whole textures or frames) with frames per second and Loop/Once/Ping-pong playback. A sprite wears it through its texture property, so the picker, instance overrides and the Properties node work unchanged; there is no dedicated play node. A different animation starts from its first frame, the same one set again runs on, so a graph may choose Run or Idle every frame. The clock lives on the entity, not in props, which the world writes back as overrides. The AnimationSystem ticks before behaviors, and On animation finished fires once when a Once animation reaches its end. The Animation tab plays a preview above a frame strip: reorder by dragging, Delete, duplicate, + Frames, pause/resume, and wheel zoom about the pointer with pan and Fit. Scene and Container tabs show the first frame; edit mode has no clock. Right-clicking a texture creates an animation from its frames. Button now measures its label with the bold font it draws in, which cut the Animation tab and red dialog buttons short. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Consolidate duplicated editor code, trim comments, refresh README
Split GraphCanvas (1076 -> 831 lines) into EdgeLayer and graphMenus; the port and marker menus were the same list and are now one function. Value specs of the inspector and the list tab share valueSpecs.ts, and the remaining copies (compound commands, type glyphs, typed asset lookup, name rule, play/editor world setup, marquee) are merged. Four copies had already drifted apart; merging them fixes: - "Disconnect N links" in the port menu is one undo step, not N - "+ Add collider" is hidden on a placed container instance, as in the hierarchy menu, instead of always failing - a bool property coerced from the text "false" becomes false - a port command on an unknown node type reports instead of crashing Comment-only edits leave the bundle byte-identical. README corrected in 35 places (step limit, jump-run clock, suite duration, 409 body, ...). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Pan with the middle button, select several nodes, and fit properly
Three things the graph view did differently from the scene view, or not at all: Panning moves to the middle button, which works from anywhere – a node under the pointer included, since NodeView now lets that one button bubble up. Shift-drag on empty canvas pans too. The left button pulls a rubber band instead and no longer pans. Nodes can be selected several at a time: by band, by ctrl/shift-click, moved together, deleted together, each as one undo step. The selection model gains `nodeIds` alongside the objects' `objectIds`. Fit really fits. It used to pin the zoom at 1 and merely centre, so a graph larger than the view always left nodes hanging out, and it sized every node with one guessed height although real ones vary with their port count. Both sums now live in editor/graph/framing.ts as pure functions, which is what made the defect testable at all. The band selects any node it overlaps rather than one whose position it contains, unlike the scene view: nodes are large rectangles, and a band drawn visibly across one has to catch it. |

Add a Container tab and propagate template edits
The Container tab reuses SceneViewport against any object holder, so a container template is edited exactly like a scene. Right-click no longer changes the selection, which previously made nesting impossible: opening the menu on a container loaded it, and "Place in container" then targeted itself. Template edits (move, rename, override) now reach already-placed instances per slot, through a shared templateSync used by both the apply path and the plain object commands. Copies the user has touched keep their own value. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Trim needless comments and fix the picker width
Remove comments that only restate the code, keeping the section banners and the notes that carry a reason, a measured fact or an external contract. ButtonOptions.width claimed to be a fixed width but only set minWidth, so the Graph and Texture pickers grew with the name they showed. It is now what it promises, with a separate minWidth for the buttons that have two forms. Narrow buttons shrink their padding, otherwise a 24px icon button had 8px left for its glyph and truncate dropped it entirely. __gm.labelsDropped() guards that class: the overflow guard only saw text that was too wide, never a label truncated to nothing. Add a Texture tab for defining frames
A new Texture tab next to Scene/Game/Graph shows a texture sheet and lets frames be drawn on it: drag to create, move, resize via eight handles, edit name and rect in the inspector, Delete to remove. Every change is a command, so one gesture is one undo step. "Slice..." cuts a grid from columns and rows with optional offset and spacing, previewing the resulting frame count and cell size live. Sprites pick a frame instead of the whole texture through the same `texture` property: it now holds either a texture id or a frame id. Frame ids come from the same generator and are document-wide unique, so one picker, one property and one set of instance overrides cover both cases, and every sprite written before this still means the same thing. A Graphics fill ignores a Pixi sub-texture's frame and draws the whole image, because it derives its uvs from the shape bounds and the inverted style matrix. The cutout is therefore a matrix (`viewport/textureFill.ts`), which keeps a sheet at a single GPU upload no matter how many of its frames are on screen at once. Add textures for sprites
Images are uploaded to a content-addressed blob endpoint and stored as data/textures/<sha256>.<ext>; the project only keeps the file name. The sprite points at a texture asset through an ordinary property of the new kind `asset`, so instance overrides, "Apply to container", "Reset to asset", undo and `Set property` work without any extra code. The new kind also replaces the ad-hoc asset picker the graph nodes faked as an enum. Import goes through + -> Texture, drag & drop onto the canvas or Ctrl+V. Images wider than 2048px are downscaled client-side and re-encoded to WebP if needed, because nginx caps uploads at 1MB; an image that already fits is uploaded byte for byte so pixel art is never resampled. The sprite colour default changes from red to white, since colour tints the texture multiplicatively and a tint of white shows an image as it is.
