Show a Compressor's panel in its node, its tab on a double-click (#380)
The panel of #379 opened in a window of its own and replaced the tab. The user wanted the device in the graph instead, and the tab of #378 back on a double-click. The switch Hardware look goes again. - A node can show a face instead of its rows (`NodeFace`). Its inputs sit on the left of it and its outputs on the right, in the middle of the height. Each side is as wide as its longest port name. - A Compressor node shows the panel at full size, 820x280 graph units. Its settings and numbers are not listed as rows, the panel has them. - The knobs and the lever work in the node. A drag, a notch of the wheel and a double-click are one undo step each. A press on them neither picks nor moves the node, and the wheel does not zoom the graph. The number below a knob is only shown, typing stays in the tab and the inspector. - The meter and the LEDs run while the node is in the picture of a sound FX or instrument graph that is seen. Out of the picture, folded or hidden, the node lets go of its taps. - The window of one size, `fixedSize`, `refit`, `keptSize` and the rule that kept a Compressor out of the tab row are gone again. - A knob's drag as one undo step lives in `nodeParamDrag.ts` now, for the tab and the node. The numbers of a node and what auto-gain says moved to `compressorView.ts`. Found and fixed on the way: - The tab and the node listen to the same taps. The tab let go of them on every frame it was not seen, so the node's meter stood still while the tab was open. Now the tab lets go once, and in a frame everything unseen lets go before anything seen listens. Tests: - Unit: compressor-view (2 new), documents (the test of `keptSize` is gone with it) - e2e 34 (stein2, melektaus-atx was off): ALL PASSED, 122 checks. The four checks of #379 are now four of the node: ports beside the panel, knobs and lever in the node, the needle when played (21.7 dB with the tab open), and the double-click opening the tab. - Gate (stein2): CHECK EXIT 0, 283 files, 4356 tests - Counter-checks: an old auto-gain number read as off turns exactly its unit test red. A tab that lets go on every frame leaves the node's needle at 0 dB and no LED lit (probe on stein2). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Edit a Compressor in a tab of its own, with knobs and levels (#378)
A Compressor had only its number rows in the node. Its numbers are
easier to set by feel on a dial, and what it does is easier to judge
when the level going in and the level going out are seen side by side.
- Knob is a new widget in the toolkit: a slider bent into a circle,
its name above and a number field below. A drag up or down turns
it, Shift a tenth as far, a notch of the wheel a fiftieth of the
turn, a double-click sets the default, the number takes a typed
value. A taper gives the low end more of the turn.
- The Compressor's tab opens on a double-click, one per node, like
the Parametric EQ's. It has a knob for each of the seven numbers,
greyed while its input is linked.
- Its curve shows level in to level out from -60 to 0 dB. The point
where it bends sets the threshold, the end of the curve sets the
ratio that ends there.
- Its levels show the last 4 s on both sides of the node. Where it
takes more than 0.5 dB away, the stretch below the level coming in
is tinted. The makeup is left out of that.
- The Compressor is tapped like the EQ. SpectrumTaps listens to more
than one node at once and reads the loudest sample of the last
25 ms on each side.
- The node tabs share one map in the editor (nodeTabs), so a third
kind needs no new plumbing.

Draw the EQ's curve in its node and a spectrum behind it (#375, #374)
Both were asked for in #367 "for later". The node of a Parametric EQ now shows its curve in small, and its tab shows what passes the node while it is seen. #375, the curve in the node: - NodeDef has an optional `picture`: a height, and shapes made from the settings as plain point lists (guide, area, line). It is general, the Parametric EQ is its first user. - NodeView draws it in a box below the rows, again only when the box or the settings change. A drag in the EQ tab changes them, so the node follows it live. - Without a band the box stays, flat on its 0 dB line, so the node does not grow at the first band. - The axes of the curve, `eqCurvePoints` and `fillShapes` move from editor/soundfx/eqView to core/soundfx/parametricEq. Tab and node draw the sum from the same function. #374, the spectrum: - A node marked `tapped` gets a `tap` stage in front of its own stages and one behind them when compiled, in a sound FX and in an instrument alike. Its id is asset and node, since a copied asset keeps its node ids. - A tap is a gain of 1. SpectrumTaps (new, viewport/spectrum.ts) holds the tap of every voice and bus while it plays. - While the EQ tab is seen, in the tab row or in a window, the taps of that node feed one analyser per side (8192 points). Nothing is made before a tap of the node plays, so no AudioContext is opened early. - The tab draws both behind the curve, on a scale of 0 to -96 dBFS: the sound coming in faint and grey, the sound going on in the colour of a sound port. The analyser smooths it, and once the sound has gone the sum still hands it silence, so it falls away. - Once the tab is not seen, Editor.tick lets the analysers go, like the meters of the Song tab. - A tap does nothing to the sound, so `stats().last.stages` leaves it out, and a bypassed EQ keeps its taps. Decided on my own: - Every sound passing the node counts: Play of the sound FX tab, an instrument's keys, a song, a run. The issue proposed that. - The spectrum has no labels of its own. Its scale is in the wiki. Tests: Gate (melektaus-atx) 275 files, 4247 tests (11 new), EXIT 0 e2e 34 (melektaus-atx) ALL PASSED, 98 checks (2 new), twice Counter-checks, each put back by copy and compared with cmp: - The node's curve drawn without its bands: 2 unit tests fail. - The spectrum without the loudest bin between two points: 1 fails. - SpectrumTaps.stop leaving the taps linked: 1 fails. - Taps that never feed the analyser: e2e 34 fails in exactly the spectrum check (frames 0). Run in the container only. The screenshots of the second run were looked at: the blip as one peak behind the curve, and the dip at 4 kHz in the node. Edit a Parametric EQ in a tab of its own (#370)
The EQ's editor floated over the editor as a window since #367. The user wants it as a tab for now. Whether any tab can float and dock again is weighed apart from this. - A double-click on the node asks for the tab through `EditorState.openEq`, as `openValues` does for a Variables tab. - The tab is a document `eq:<asset>:<node>`, one per EQ node. A second double-click brings the open one up. - Its name is the asset's, with `EQ 2`, `EQ 3` when the asset has more than one. The icon is the sound FX's. - The tab closes with its node, its asset, or a new project, through the same `syncDocuments` as every document. - `EqWindow` becomes `EqEditor`, a `VStack` with a `TabHeader`. The curve takes the room of the tab, 320 x 160 at least. - The window's title bar, dragging and Close button are gone. - Delete in the EQ's tab removes the picked band. It never falls through to the selection, which is still the EQ's node. - The hint below the curve is shorter, it was cut off at 1280 px. Tests: - e2e 34 (melektaus-atx): ALL PASSED, 96 checks, 2 rewritten. The tab opens on a double-click and goes with its node. - Gate (melektaus-atx): CHECK EXIT 0, 274 files, 4231 tests. Shape a sound with a Parametric EQ and its own curve editor (#367)
A sound FX or an instrument had a 5-Band-EQ with fixed bands and a Filter with one band. The Parametric EQ holds up to ten bands of any type, and a double-click on the node opens an editor that draws the curve they make together. - The bands are a list on the node (`bands`): type, frequency, gain, Q and slope. A hand-edited project is held to the editor's ranges and to ten bands. - Each band compiles to the existing `pass` stage, so the audio core is unchanged. A peak or a shelf at 0 dB is left out. - The curve is worked out in `parametricEq.ts` with the biquad formulas of the Web Audio spec, so the editor draws what is heard. - The editor is a window that floats over the editor without a backdrop, so the tab's Play stays usable. A double-click adds a peak, a drag moves a band, the wheel turns its Q, a right-click removes it. Fields below the curve set the picked band. It opens in the middle of the screen and moves by its title bar. - A drag or a scrub writes the node as a preview and makes one undo step on release. The panels hear of the preview once a frame, and the window lays itself out only when one of its texts changes. - The area under the curve is filled as one shape for each side of 0 dB. As a single shape it crossed itself and came apart. - The curve works out each band's coefficients once and adds the sum up from the bands. A drag took 295 ms of script time in a profile before and 64 ms after. Decided on my own: - Bands are added by a double-click, so a single click can let go of the picked band without adding one. - The cuts are labelled "Low cut" and "High cut" as in an EQ, not "High-pass" and "Low-pass" as on the Filter. - The bands have no input, so no parameter or Envelope moves them. Tests: - Unit parametric-eq (new) and soundfx: 69 green. Counter-probe with no stages emitted: the compile test red. Counter-probe with one fill shape: the fill test red. - e2e 34 (melektaus-atx): ALL PASSED, 96 checks (3 new). - Counter-probe e2e: no stages emitted, the playing check red. - Gate (melektaus-atx): CHECK EXIT 0, 274 files, 4230 tests. Route sounds, songs and buses in one Master routing graph (#351)
A project bus could only go into one other bus, and a sound, an
instrument, a pattern or a song into exactly one bus. A shared reverb
needs a sound to go there in part and on dry at the same time. Instead
of a list of sends on every asset, the project gets one routing graph
like the routing of a song (#350), one level up.
- Menu -> Master routing opens a tab with one graph per project. It has
a node per sound, instrument, pattern, song and bus, named after its
asset, and one Master. Embedded assets have none, their song routes
them.
- The nodes follow the assets. Every edit settles the routing in the
same undo step (KeepRoutingCommand), so an undone delete brings the
links of its asset back. A new asset gets a node and a link to the
master. What went only into a deleted bus goes to the master.
- New nodes start in three columns: what plays, the buses, and the
master a row above, so no link into it runs behind a bus.
- Links are sends: -60 to +12 dB, and a Mode on links out of a bus or a
song. Out of a sound, an instrument or a pattern a link always takes
the sound after its volume and FX. Loops are refused.
- A node without a link is silent and says "Goes nowhere".
- The rows Bus and Into are gone. Play nodes with a picked bus still
overrule the routing.
- A click on a node shows its asset in the inspector, the Master shows
the master volume and sound FX. A double click opens the asset's tab.
- The graph lives in project.routing and is held to the assets when a
project is read, but nothing is added there. The editor adds the
nodes when it opens a project. An asset without a node plays on the
master, so old projects sound as before without a migration.
- In the mix an asset with one link at 0 dB goes straight into that bus.
A sound or instrument with more gets a bus of its own with the sends.
A pattern or song sends from the master of its playing, which is
where its Mode taps. Buses of the mix can have sends now too.

Give every sound FX effect a Bypass and a Wet (#354)
A node could only be taken out of a sound FX by unplugging it, and only six of them could be blended with the sound they get. Every effect now has both, in the sound FX graph and in the instrument graph alike. The Mix, the Input and the Output have neither. - Bypass is a checkbox setting. A bypassed node is left out when the graph is compiled, so it costs nothing and holds nothing back. The graph draws it faded, and its body says "Bypass: true". - Wet is a number input like the others. It can be a parameter, be moved by Set sound FX parameters and, where the node allows it for its other numbers, follow an Envelope. - A blend is a stage of its own (`wet`) around what the node adds. The sound as it came in is held back as far as the node is late, so a Compressor, a Limiter or a Vibrato do not comb it out. - The six nodes that had a Mix keep their key `mix` and only call it Wet. Saved values, parameters and edges stay as they were. - The Delay crossfades now: the sound alone at 0, the sound and its echoes in full at 0.5, the echoes alone at 1. Before, the sound was always in full and `mix` was the echoes. - The Pitch takes its semitones by Wet instead of blending, through a share `times` on the amount that an instrument binds as well. Findings: - A Delay saved before this sounds different. It sounds the same at half its old value. The two chip presets with a Delay (Echo Lead, Bell) are halved to keep their sound. - Project cbbf160bb7e8 has two Delays (mix 1 and 0.5). They are left as they are. Tests: - Unit: soundfx 65 (8 new), sound-library 107 (3 new), instrument 35 (1 new), envelope 13. Two delay tests and the filter ports test follow the new numbers. - Counter-checks: 8, each turns its test red. - e2e 34 (melektaus-atx): ALL PASSED, 83 checks (2 new). The ping-pong check at wet 0.25 measures what it did at mix 0.5. - Gate (melektaus-atx): CHECK EXIT 0, 268 files, 4154 tests. - After the gate the derived ports of a blend are asked for once instead of twice: typecheck, lint and the three unit files green again (113 tests). Put a sound in a room, a hall or a cave with a Reverb node (#328)
A sound FX had no space around it. The Reverb node folds the sound with an impulse response: one it makes itself, or a sound asset as the answer of a real space. It works on a voice and on a bus. - Type: Room, Hall, Cave and Plate have fixed numbers. Custom shows Decay (up to 10 s), Damping and Pre-delay. Sound shows the pick of a sound asset and Pre-delay. The rows are derived ports, the sound pick an idle param, so they only appear for their type. - The made impulse response is seeded noise per side, 60 dB down at Decay, through a low-pass closing from 20 kHz toward 500 Hz as far as Damping says. It is made once per rate, decay and damping, the last 16 are kept. - A sound as impulse response: the sound FX compilers now get the project, so a node can turn a sound asset into its file. The build key holds that file, so a cut or swapped sound builds again. The instrument compiler does the same for a Reverb inside an instrument. - The library loads that file with the voice, a sequence or before a bus builds its chain. A missing file leaves the reverb silent. - Mix blends dry and reverb and is the only number that moves while the sound plays, as the issue said. The voice rings for pre-delay plus decay, or as long as its sound. - The open point from #325 about sends on project buses is #351, not part of this. Tests: - Unit reverb (new) 4, soundfx 57 (4 new), sound-library 104 (2 new), green. - Counter-checks, each turns one test red: the impulse file not loaded with the voice, the tail without the length of the sound. - e2e 34 (melektaus-atx): ALL PASSED, 81 checks (1 new). Chrome offline: silent during the pre-delay, 35.9 dB fall over 0.6 s of a 1 s decay (36 expected), the dry half at 0.25 for mix 0.5. A sound with one sample at 0.2 s gives the impulse back 0.25 s later and nowhere else. - Gate (melektaus-atx) over the end of this series #318 to #328: CHECK EXIT 0, 267 files, 4134 tests. Route the tracks of a song through a graph (#350)
Every track of a song went straight into its output. Now the Song tab has a second view, Routing: a graph with a node per track and one Output, the links between them sends. A track can go into other tracks, into several at once, and a link has its own volume and the point of the track it taps. - The song asset has a graph like an instrument (SongTrack, SongOutput). heldSongGraph keeps it in step with the tracks on load and in SetSongCommand: a node per track named after it, one output, a new track and every track of an old song linked to the output. Links of gone tracks, doubled links and links closing a loop are dropped. - A link carries an optional send (volume in dB, tap). The inspector shows Volume and Mode for a picked link of a song: Post volume (Post pan), Pre volume (Post FX), Pre volume (Pre FX). SetSendCommand. - NodeDef has two new flags. `fixed` nodes are never added or deleted by hand. Links between `acyclic` nodes may not close a loop, checked in canConnect, dropTargetPort and ConnectCommand. - songBuses gives each track its sends instead of one `into`, and a bus `song:<song>:<track>:#items` for its own items. That bus is what solo closes on a track that only passes a soloed one on. - Mute and solo now act on the sends (trackGates). A muted track passes nothing on, on any tap. A soloed track is heard with what goes into it, through the tracks it goes through, their own items silent. Only sends on a way through a soloed track stay open, so a track going into it and into the output is heard through it only. - SoundLibrary: a bus has either `into` or sends. Each send is tap, delay, level, target. busLatency takes the latest way (arrivalOf), and each send is held back so all ways of a track arrive together (sendDelays). Taps are wired again whenever a chain comes or goes. - The Song tab has Timeline and Routing in its header. The routing uses GraphCanvas with an empty palette. A track linked nowhere shows "Goes nowhere". Delete takes links, never a track node. - Game playings route the same way, the output being the master of the playing. Decided without asking: a send ranges -60 to +12 dB like a track, default 0 dB Post. Mute closes the sends, the track's own level stays. Found on the way: the inspector built the Mode row with the send as it was when the rows were made. Setting Volume and then Mode wrote the old volume back. Both rows now read the current send when they change. Tests: - Unit song-routing (new): 13 green. Sound library: 4 new, 94 green. 11 counter-probes (loop on load, canConnect, solo, solo past the soloed track, mute, preFx latency, graph sync, delete guard, delays, taps, glide), each red. - Existing tests adjusted to the new bus names and send shape: song, bus-fx, song-play, graph registry, edge description. - e2e 65 on melektaus-atx: ALL PASSED, 43 checks (5 new). The first run caught the inspector bug. Counter-probe with the old closure: 2 FAILED. - Gate on melektaus-atx: typecheck, lint, format clean, 2 tests red (registry rule, edge shape), fixed and rerun locally: 56 green. - Not rerun after the per-send solo fix: e2e 65 and the gate. Make 8-bit sounds without a file with a Chip node in instruments (#329)
An instrument could only play sound files so far. The Chip makes the sound of a note itself, the way old game consoles and sfxr did: a raw wave and what its frequency does over the note. A laser, a jump or a pickup is now an instrument and ends by itself. - Chip node with wave (square, triangle, saw, sine, noise and the periodic noise of the NES), follow note, frequency, duty, duty sweep, slide, delta slide, min frequency, vibrato, arpeggio and repeat. It counts in Hz, semitones and seconds, not sfxr's 0 to 1. - It runs as a third processor in the FX worklet. The math is a plain class, ChipPlayer, tested in Node. Every sample is worked out 8 times and averaged, as sfxr does. - Frequency and duty are AudioParams, so an Envelope can move them and a parameter can tune them while the note plays. A Pitch behind a Chip moves its frequency directly, without the phase vocoder. - Below its min frequency a Chip ends and tells the page. Without the worklet it is silent and its note ends at once. - An Envelope with sustain 0 now ends its note once the decay is over, for every source under it, Samples too. Before, a note with duration 0 ran on silently until a Stop sound. - A note made of Chips alone needs no file. playNote and the wait for the bytes no longer drop it for having none. - Inputs that do nothing as things stand are grey in the inspector. idleParams is told which inputs are connected, so a connected one always counts. The credit names sfxr (Tomas Pettersson, MIT) and jsfxr, which turned out to be public domain, not MIT as the plan in #329 said. Tests: - Unit chip (new) 12, sound-library +4. All of tests/core, tests/viewport, tests/editor/graph and tests/editor/inspector: 178 files, 2953 green. - Counter-checks: semitones read as /24 turn 4 chip tests red. Without the sustain rule and the file check 4 library tests fail. - e2e 34 (melektaus-atx): ALL PASSED, 60 checks (2 new). Offline in Chrome a square at 220 Hz plus 12 semitones and duty 0.25 gave 329 periods in 0.75 s, up 0.249. 64 noise voices for 2 s rendered in 2.0 s, about 63 at once. Live a 0.2 s note with sustain 0 was gone after 0.26 s. - Gate (melektaus-atx): CHECK EXIT 0, 255 files, 3962 tests. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Shape notes with an Envelope and move numbers with its curve #335
Without an envelope a note set in hard and broke off 10 ms after its end. An instrument now has an Envelope node with attack, decay, sustain and release. On the way of the sound it is the volume. Its output "value" moves a number of the note with the same curve, from "From" to "To", for a filter sweep among others. A new Filter node gives that sweep something to move. - Envelope (instrument only): attack a straight line, decay and release ease out and are 60 dB of the way at their time. A release takes 10 ms at least. Defaults 0.005 / 0.1 / 1 / 0.1. - The end of a note goes to the Envelope instead of the 10 ms fade. A Gate or Loop Sample under it plays on through the release, "Loop, then release" leaves its loop too, and the voice ends with the release. A One-shot under an Envelope of its own plays through. - A note ending before attack and decay releases from the level it has reached. Chrome holds it with cancelAndHoldAtTime, Firefox gets the level worked out from the shape. - New port type "envelope" (coral). It fits only a number input that says it can follow one (PortDef.followsEnvelope): Filter cutoff and resonance, Pitch, Gain, the EQ bands and Mix. Not the Delay, not the Envelope's own numbers. portsMeet() decides it for ConnectCommand, the drag and the drawn edges. - On the audio thread every Envelope of a note is one ConstantSourceNode. A number it moves gets the curve through a WaveShaper, in equal ratios for a cutoff and a gain. A number an Envelope moves is no longer reached by a parameter. - Filter (sound FX and instrument): low-, high- or band-pass, cutoff in Hz, resonance 0 to 1 as a Q. A low- or high-pass is flat at 0 and rises 20 dB at 1, a band-pass goes from Q 0.7 to 20. - Stop sound with "let ring" lets a note with an Envelope fall away in its release. Without it, and with Stop in the tab, it is cut. - The same note again during a release is a voice of its own. - The Envelope's numbers are set when the note starts. They can come from velocity or a parameter, later changes do not bend the note. Tests: - envelope.test.ts (new, 12): curve, ratios, Filter Q, compiling an Envelope, its value into each number, a Delay refused - sound-library +7: attack and decay on the clock, release from the level reached, One-shot held, Stop sound with and without let ring, a cutoff and a pitch moved by the curve - e2e 34: ALL PASSED, 50 checks (+2). Offline in Chrome the curve rendered 0.5 / 1 / 0.5005 at 0.05 / 0.1 / 0.3 s, released at 0.5 s it was 0.0158 at 0.65 s and 0.0005 at 0.8 s, released mid-attack it fell from 0.5 to 0.05 in 0.1 s. A Gain moved 0.25 to 1 was 0.5 halfway. A looped note of 0.2 s with a release of 1 s was gone after 1.32 s. - Five counter-checks (release end, One-shot hold, the follows check, ratios, pitch sum) failed 3, 1, 1, 2 and 2 tests. - Gate on melektaus-atx: CHECK EXIT 0, 245 files, 3812 tests Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Play sounds as notes of an instrument asset #331
A sound could only be played as it was, one at a time. An instrument
is a node graph that makes a note a sound: Notes nodes bring the note
in, Samples play sound assets for it, the effects of a sound FX shape
it and the Output sums the layers. Its tab plays it from a keyboard,
a behavior with Play note. It is what patterns and songs (#330) will
play.
- New asset type instrument, under the heading Music, not placeable.
A new one starts as Notes into a Sample into the Output.
- Notes are counted as MIDI does: 60 is C4, names like C#4, sharps
only, the lowest C-1. Notes has From and To, outputs any, note,
frequency and velocity, and with Single notes a trigger per note,
each with an optional name for a drum kit.
- New port type trigger, only into the trigger of a source. Inputs
can take any number of edges now (PortDef.many): a trigger, and
the Output, which plays everything into it side by side.
- Sample plays a sound asset. Follow note shifts it by note - root
through the pitch worklet of #317, so it keeps its length. Gate
fades it out at the end of the note, One-shot plays through. Loop
runs between Loop start and Loop end, also in the worklet.
- Parameters declares the instrument's own parameters with a
default. Sound FX sends the sound through a sound FX asset, its
parameters as inputs, the sound set in where its Input was.
- compileInstrument walks the graph once per note. A trigger is on
only for the notes it stands for, a silent source silences what it
alone feeds, a Mix with a silent side is the other side. velocity
and the parameters stay open for the voice. Builds are cached per
note until the graph or a sound or FX it names changes.
- The player takes a note as one voice of several layers, each way
with its own file and volume. release fades the gated ways out,
one-shots play on. playNote can release after a duration.
- Play note plays one note with velocity, volume, duration and
detached, and hands out voice for Set sound FX parameters and
Stop sound. Velocity is always loudness. Instrument parameters
picks values for the instrument's parameters like Sound FX
parameters does for an FX, renames follow.
- The tab has the graph, a header field per parameter, Stop, and
128 keys below. Keys without sound are grey. A key plays while it

Show Direction and Curve of a node only where they matter
An animation key shows Direction only for one of the ten curves and the Curve row only for Curve. Lerp and Set sound FX parameters hid them on the node body, but the inspector still offered both rows for every easing, so a linear Lerp had a Direction to pick that did nothing. - A node definition can name `idleParams`: settings that do nothing at the current values. The node body and the inspector both leave them out. - `hiddenParams` stays as it was. It only trims the node body, the inspector keeps those rows (the Order of an event, the mode of Find), so it could not take this job. - Lerp and Set sound FX parameters use `idleEasing` (formerly `hiddenEasing`) for it. - The idle settings are part of the node signature of the inspector. Picking an easing that needs Direction or Curve rebuilds the section, and the row appears. Tests: - easing-curves: 14 tests (+1), node-catalog: 381, green - e2e 06 (149 checks, green) checks that a new linear Lerp has no Direction and no Curve row in the inspector. Picking Cubic brings the Direction row, and Out is picked there as before. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Let a game hand values to the parameters of a sound FX #311
A sound FX played the same every time: its numbers were settings of the nodes. Now the Input declares parameters with a default, every number of Gain, Pitch and EQ is an input they can feed, and a Play sound hands in values for them. - Input declares number parameters in the inspector, each with a Default (DeclaredPort.default, SetPortDefaultCommand). They are outputs of the Input. Input and Output count as terminals now, one of each per graph. - Gain, Pitch and EQ take their numbers at inputs under the keys the settings had, so saved graphs sound as before without a migration. Each value is held to its range however it arrives. - The compiler gives an FxPlan with the parameters still open. fxChainOf fills them in when a voice starts. The player still only sees an FxChain. - New behavior node Sound FX parameters: names an FX and picks its parameters like a Variables node picks variables. Each picked one is a number input that starts at the FX's default. Its output has the new port type fxparams, which only fits Play sound's fx params. - Play sound warns when the parameters name another FX than the one it plays. Names the FX does not know are left out. - Renaming a parameter at the Input renames it in every Sound FX parameters node naming that FX, edges and values included. - The Sound FX tab has a number field per parameter in its header. Play uses those values, they are never written into the asset. - A value counts from the start of a voice. Changing a playing voice is #315, a Mix node is #316. Tests: - soundfx.test.ts 22 (+11): parameters in the plan, held values, a 0-by-default stage, EQ band, save with defaults, wrong port types, default command with undo, Sound FX parameters into Play sound, defaults of picked ones, node problems, mismatch, rename with undo - node-catalog 368 (+3): Play sound fx params, Sound FX parameters - e2e 34: ALL PASSED - 28 checks (+2: header field plays depth 5, a Sound FX parameters node gives the game's voice depth 7) - Gate on melektaus-atx: typecheck, lint, prettier clean, 240 test files, 3636 tests green - Counter-check: with fxChainOf ignoring the values and the rename not followed, 5 of the new tests fail. - Browser probe: header fields, inspector Default and the picked parameter looked at in two screenshots. Play a sound through a graph of gain, pitch and EQ effects #311
A sound could only be played as it was uploaded. A Sound FX asset is
a node graph like a shader: Input, effects, Output. Play sound has a
new input fx that sends the voice through it.
- New asset type soundfx ("Sound FX"), not placeable, with a graph
and its own tab. The heading in the asset panel is "Sound effects",
so it does not take the click meant for the + menu entry.
- Nodes in core/soundfx/nodes.ts, category sound, port type audio
that only fits audio: Input, Output, Gain (dB), Pitch (semitones),
EQ (80 Hz and 12 kHz shelves, peaks at 250 Hz, 1 kHz and 4 kHz).
- compileSoundFx walks back from the Output with the shared graph
emitter. An input takes one edge, so the result is one line: a
pitch and a list of gain and filter stages. A node without input
or a graph without Output reports a problem on the node.
- Pitch is the playback rate of the source. It applies to the whole
sound and also changes its length, the node description says so.
- The BehaviorSystem resolves fx and hands the line to the AudioSink.
An fx that is missing or does not compile plays the sound dry.
- SoundLibrary wires source, stages, volume, destination in that
order. stats().last now also names pitch and stage count.
- The tab header picks one of the project's sounds and plays it
through the graph as it stands. Stop there ends only its own voice.
Tests:
- soundfx.test.ts (new, 11), sound-library (9, +2 for the wiring),
node-catalog (+1 for fx), graph and asset-groups adjusted
- e2e 34: ALL PASSED - 26 checks (+5: + menu opens the tab, palette,
2 effects, tab Play and game Play through the FX at -12 st)
- Gate on melektaus-atx: typecheck, lint, prettier clean, 239 of 240
test files green. The red one was sound-library (its fake
AudioContext had no playbackRate), fixed afterwards, gate not
re-run in full.
- Counter-check: without the audio rule in portsCompatible the port
test fails.

Show a wheel step or Fit as a short zoom transition (#309)
The wheel and the Fit button used to jump to the new view. Now the view takes a short way there, 200 ms by default, everywhere the editor zooms. The zoom steps stay the same, only the change is shown. - viewTween: tweenView is the way between two views as a pure function. The scale moves by equal ratios, and the world point that sits at the same place on screen in both views stays there. After a wheel step that is the point under the pointer. - ViewTween drives it on the ticker. A surface hands it reading, writing and drawing its own view and wraps its wheel and Fit code in change(). A step during a transition starts from where that one was heading, so quick steps add up to exactly as many steps. - Anything else that moves the view ends the transition. A pan jumps to the target first, and saving a view saves the target. - Wired into FreeViewport (Scene, Container, animation preview), SheetCanvas (Texture, Curve, Pixel art, Vector art), GraphCanvas, panAndZoom (Tile board, plugin node board) and the timeline. - Menu > General settings... sets the time in ms, 0 jumps at once. It is kept in this browser like the panel sizes, not in the project, and it is not an undo step. - A document that opens still comes up framed at once. The animation preview frames a new subject itself instead of calling fit(). - The pixel art readout names the step the view is heading for. Measured in the scene view at 200 ms on melektaus-atx, where every frame of the transition is a full redraw: - 500 sprites: redraw 6.7 ms, 16 frames, mean 18 ms - 1000 sprites: redraw 13.0 ms, 9 frames, mean 27 ms - 2000 sprites: redraw 32.2 ms, 5 frames, mean 58 ms Tests: - The harness sets 0 ms on every load, so the existing modules read the step and not the way. - e2e 46i samples one wheel step at 1000 ms a frame later: zoom 1.033 between 1 and 2, the point under the pointer kept at (134, -40). It lands on the view a 0 ms jump reaches. - e2e 46 and 49 expect the new menu entry. - Gate (atx): 234 files, 3563 tests, CHECK EXIT 0 (+15) - e2e 46,49 (atx): ALL PASSED, 43 checks (+3, sum 1735) - Three counter-checks fail view-tween.test.ts as expected. e2e 46i fails when the scene view does not carry its centre along. Keep an output's name readable beside a long inline value (#306)
An input and an output in the same port row were cut to fit each on its own. The input text could reach x = 123 and the output label could start at x = 83, so a long inline value ran under the output's name. At Animation playing a long animation name covered "progress". - The output label is placed first and keeps its room. The input text is cut with an ellipsis 6 px before it, as decided in the issue. - The rule is a pure function in src/editor/graph/portRow.ts. A row without an output keeps the input's old limit of 108 px. - The value a run shows beside an output uses the same rule. Its left edge can no longer lie right of its right edge. - New test hook __gm.graph.rowSpans(nodeId) gives each row's input and output text as cut and placed, in node units. - NODE_WIDTH stays as it is, as decided in the issue. Tests: - Gate: 230 files, 3520 tests (6 new in port-row.test.ts). - e2e 6: all passed, 149 checks (148 + 1). - Counter-check: with the rule switched off, the input text reaches x = 121.4 under "progress" at x = 114.1, and the new check fails. Use a shader graph as a node in other shaders (#303)
A calculation needed in several shaders (a greyscale, a noise, an outline) had to be built again in every one of them. A shader function keeps it as an asset of its own, called like a behavior is since #16. - New asset type `shaderfunction` ("Shader function"), edited in the Shader tab. The panel beside the graph shows no picture, the readout counts its inputs and outputs. - Two new nodes: `Function input` and `Function output`. Their declared ports, numbers or colours only, are the ports of every call. One of each per function, like Start and End. - The call is node `ShaderCall`, named after the function. The palette lists every function, it can be dragged in from the Assets panel, and a double-click opens it. - The compiler sets the function in where it is called (`inlineFunctions`). It renames the copied nodes `<call>/<node>` and turns an unconnected port into a constant. Passes, Time, the Edge cut and the corner walk then see a plain graph. - A problem inside a function is reported at the call, in the function's words. The function's own tab checks it on its own (`checkShaderFunction`). - `ShaderLibrary` keys a shader on its graph and on every function it calls, however deep, so a change reaches every caller. - The port commands mirror a new, renamed or removed port into every call, as for a behavior's Start and End. `NodeDef.portKinds` holds the two ends to Number and Color. - As agreed in the issue: no `Property`, `Color property`, Output or Vertex output in a function, and `Time` is the caller's clock. - Own decision: a `Pass` may stand in a function. It becomes a pass of the calling shader, so a wide blur can be a function. - A function calling itself, also through another, says so at the node and is not set in. The palette does not offer such a call. - The Shader tab showed only the compiler's problems. A call nothing reaches was never compiled and looked healthy, so a call now also shows its own problem there, as in a behavior. Tests: - Gate: 228 files, 3510 tests, CHECK EXIT 0 (+13: 11 in tests/core/shader-functions.test.ts, 2 for the new icon) - e2e 28: 100 checks, all passed (+3 in 28l-viii). Called and in place both #606060/#a2a2a2, halved in the function #303030/#515151. - Counter-check: a fingerprint without the called functions fails 1 unit test, and in the browser the change check (#606060 stays). - The first e2e runs found two faults, both fixed: a double-click only selected the function, and an unreached call of itself showed no problem. - e2e total 1728 is computed (1725 + 3). Draw a shader in passes with a Pass node (#301)
A Blur stops at radius 8 in one pass, and bloom needs a softened copy of the picture beside the original. A Pass node cuts the graph: what feeds it is drawn into a picture of its own first, and the nodes that read a picture read that one when it feeds them. - Pass has color and alpha like the Output, a Resolution setting (Full, Half, Quarter) and a picture output. Texture color, Texture alpha, Sample texture, Blur and Texture size get a picture input. Unconnected it is the wearer's own picture, so the original stays readable beside any pass. - picture is a port type of its own. It plugs only into a picture input, not even into an any port. - The walk shared by the compilers can stop at a node (cut). The shader compiler draws each Pass it meets as a fragment of its own, earlier passes first. A ring through a picture says Feeds itself, and more than 8 passes say so at the node. - A pass draws untinted. The tint comes on when the last part reads a picture, so a particle source draws its passes once for all of its particles (user decision). - A pass's picture is the wearer's picture and its Padding, at the pixels of the picture times Resolution, at most 2048 per side. It is read with the picture's own filter and continues past its frame as the Output's Edge says. - PassPictures keeps one render texture per pass and wearer. It draws again only when picture, size, Padding or a uniform changed. A field's picture is a render texture that changes under the same id, so a field draws its passes every time. - Sprite, sliced sprite, text, particle source, field shader and the Shader tab's preview all draw passes. syncShader takes a fixed picture for a 9-slice, which holds its corners but keeps the margin. - texelAt and blur take the sampler they read. Existing shaders compile to the same program apart from that argument. - A field shader's Blur and Texture size count a pixel as a unit of the frame (uPixelScale), not of the screen. Before, a field's blur grew when zooming out and shrank when zooming in. This came with #170 and #300 and is fixed here because passes inherit it. - tools/perf-shaders.mjs and tools/perf-field-shaders.mjs measure two passes with GM_PERF_PASSES=1 and GM_PERF_PASS_RESOLUTION. Below Full an open Pass shrinks the picture first, as the wiki's recipe does. Found on the way: - Destroying the pictures before the shader made Pixi warn that a texture was still bound. The shader goes first now, and a picture of a new size is resized rather than replaced. - Two passes in a row could draw plain white the first time. Pixi builds the code that binds a program's resources once and finds them by position. A pass of one graph is often the same program as a pass of another with fewer slots, so it bound a placeholder. Every shader now declares all 8 pass slots and its uniform group. Tests: - Gate on melektaus-atx: 225 files, 3480 tests (3467 + 13), exit 0. - e2e 28 and 31 on melektaus-atx: 97 checks (94 + 3) and 44 checks (43 + 1), all passed, no Pixi warning in the console. - 28l-vii: a Blur across, a Pass and a Blur down draw the 5x5 spot of a Blur of Both (difference 0.000). On a grey sprite a pass's picture added to the original is 231/60/60, each tinted once. Two Passes in a row after a graph with one show red and green, not white. - 31v-iii: a Blur of 8 fades a field's frame edge over 8.0 units at 50 % and at 200 % zoom. - Counter-checks: a tinted pass fails 1 unit test. Pictures never bound fail both e2e checks (spot 0.20 instead of 0.04, 243/158/158). Pass slots by the number of passes draw #ffffff, and a field without its pixel scale ramps over 16 and 4 units: exactly the two new checks fail. - e2e sum 1716 is counted, not yet measured (1712 + 4). - Measured on stein2 (HD 630, one run per row): 50 field shaders at radius 8 go from 11.4 to 41.3 fps in two passes, 44.4 at radius 16 (three passes at Half). 800 sprites at radius 8 go from 13.9 to 24.5 fps. At radius 4 one pass stays faster from 400 sprites on. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Let a shader declare a color the sprite sets (#298)
A shader could only ask its sprites for numbers. A tint, an outline colour or a glow colour had to be built from three Property nodes. - New node Color property next to Property: Name and Default (a colour, white unless picked), output `color`. It becomes a colour row below the Shader dropdown and a vec3 uniform in the program. - Number and colour properties share one set of names. A clash is the existing "Another property is named" problem. - Like Color it cannot feed the Vertex output. - Placed from the palette it is called tint, then tint2. - The preview in the Shader tab shows a colour field for it. Like the sliders it starts at the sprite's value and never writes into the project. - `declaredRows` takes the row builder, so the particle graph keeps its number rows unchanged. Tests: - Gate: 222 files, 3452 tests (3445 + 7) - e2e 28: 89 checks (28l-v: default colour drawn, then the colour the sprite sets) - e2e total 1704, counted (1703 + 1) Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Let a shader move the corners of the picture it wears (#79)
A shader could only say what colour a pixel has. Where the picture is drawn was fixed to the four corners of its rectangle, so nothing could wave, bend or wobble. - The new node Vertex output takes x and y, in pixels of the picture, and moves every corner of the wearer's grid by them. The UVs stay with the corners, so the picture bends along. - Subdivisions on that node says how fine the grid is: cells per axis, 1 to 64, 8 by default. 1 is the plain quad. A shader without the node keeps the quad every sprite shares. - A graph holds one Vertex output at most. UV, Time, Property, Number and the math nodes may feed it, and one node may feed both outputs. - Texture color, Texture alpha, Sample texture, Texture size and Color cannot feed it. The node says "Not available per corner" and the shader does not compile. - Sprites, texts and the preview in the shader tab wear the grid. A nine-slice sprite and particles draw as if the node were not there. - Picking, the selection frame, the size and colliders stay with the rectangle. A wearer with a Vertex output is never culled, as with Padding, and with Padding the grid covers the room around the picture too. - tools/perf-shaders.mjs takes GM_PERF_SUBDIVISIONS to measure a grid against the plain quad. Measured on stein2 (Intel HD 630), frames per second, one run per row: at 800 sprites 58 with a shader on the quad, 46 with 8 cells, 41 with 32. Up to 400 sprites a grid hardly shows. Every sprite holds its own grid. Tests: - Gate on melektaus-atx: 220 files, 3416 tests, CHECK EXIT 0. - 15 new unit tests for the compiler and the grid. - Four new e2e checks in modules 28 and 30: a fixed offset moves the picture, 8 cells bend only the lower half where 1 cell shears it all, Texture alpha is refused at the node, a text moves. - e2e 28,30 on melektaus-atx: 110 checks, all pass. - The e2e total of 1699 is counted (1695 + 4), the full suite did not run. - No counter-probe, no screenshot. Not looked at: the preview, Time in the browser, flipped sprites, Padding together with the grid. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Give a shader room to draw around the picture it wears (#69)
A shader ran only inside the rectangle of what wears it: the quad has the size of the sprite, and outside of it no fragment runs. An outline or a glow built with Sample texture was cut off at the border. The issue still spoke of Filter.padding, but since #77 the shader is no filter any more, the limit is the geometry. - The Output node has a number Padding next to Edge: so many pixels of the picture per side the wearer draws beyond it. 0 is the default and draws as before, 256 is the most. - The quad grows and its UVs grow with it, so the picture keeps its place and size. In the margin the UVs run on below 0 and above 1. - Transparent is a fourth Edge mode: outside of the picture there is nothing. It is cut in the fragment (texelAt), so it needs no copy of the picture with an address mode of its own. - Edge holds everywhere alike, also for Texture color, Texture alpha and unconnected inputs. - Padding above 0 with Edge on Clamp puts the hint "Padding with Clamp smears the border" on the Output. The shader still compiles. A chosen Clamp and the default cannot be told apart. - All four wearers draw the margin. A sprite counts in pixels of its frame, a text in its units, a particle source grows every particle about its centre. - A nine-slice sprite gets a ring around its nine fields, as wide as so many border pixels. The fields themselves stay. - Without a picture a pixel is one unit of the wearer's own size, or of the particle size. - Particles now take the Edge mode of their shader. It had no effect on them before. - An object wearing a padded shader is never culled, or its margin would vanish at the edge of the screen. - The preview in the shader tab shows the margin and leaves room for it. - Picking, the selection frame, the size and the collider stay with the rectangle without the margin. Tests: - Gate on melektaus-atx right before this commit: 216 files, 3336 tests (3319 + 17), exit 0. - e2e 28,30,31,37,41 on melektaus-atx: 178 checks, all pass. e2e 1-37,47,48,58 ran before the last change (no culling with padding): 1281 checks, all pass. - 17 new unit tests: the compiler (padding, Transparent, the hint) and the geometry (quad, nine-slice ring). - Seven new e2e checks: four at the sprite in module 28, one each for text, particles and nine-slice. - 17 unit counter-probes all fail their tests. Three browser counter-probes fail their checks (5, 3 and 1 of them). - Three screenshots looked at: the sprite with Clamp and margin in the scene, the preview in the shader tab, the text. - The e2e sum of 1687 is counted (1680 + 7), the full suite and the smokes did not run. - Not seen: the hint at the node in a picture, particles and nine-slice in a picture, the game view while playing, sprites without a picture, vector and pixel art pictures. Give a behavior more ways in and out, and hear it as an event (#294)
A behavior run by another one had a single flow port at its Start and at its End, so it could not branch for its caller. And it could not be used as an event: a call needs a pulse at its flow input, and the events of a called graph never fire. An input like "Confirm" (Space or Enter) had to be built again in every graph. - A declared port of a Start or an End node can be of the kind Flow. It sits above the values and shares their names, exec stays reserved. Only these two nodes declare one, a struct does not. - Run behavior shows a flow port of the Start as a further flow input. A call arriving through it leaves the Start through the output of that name and not through exec. - Run behavior shows a flow port of the End as a further flow output. The call goes on through the one the End was reached by last, and then through exec. exec fires always, as before. - On behavior is a new event node without a flow input. The behavior it names runs at the node for as long as the behavior around it runs, with all of its own events and one set of variables per node. - Its outputs are those of the End. It fires once the inner pulse is through, by the output the End was reached by last, exec only for End.exec. A pulse that never reaches the End is not seen. - The value ports of the Start are its inputs, read anew for each inner pulse. The Start itself never fires there. - It nests to any depth. Under a Run behavior it stays silent. A behavior hearing itself, however far round, is not started and the node says "A behavior cannot listen to itself". - The palette offers every other behavior with an End once more as "On <name>". A node naming one without End says so. - An On node removed while the game runs ends its behavior with On disable and On destroy. The sounds of the entity end only with the behavior placed on it. - Renaming and deleting a declared port follows the edges at On behavior nodes as it does at Run behavior nodes. - The flow outputs of the Start of a behavior placed on an object never fire, like its exec. - The engine prompt of the benchmark names flow ports and On behavior. Tests: - Gate on melektaus-atx right before this commit: 215 files, 3319 tests (3278 + 41), exit 0. - e2e 19 on melektaus-atx: 39 checks (+4), all pass. e2e 1-6,17-24,26,36,51: 628 checks, all pass. - 19 unit tests in flow-ports.test.ts, 19 in on-behavior.test.ts on a real world, the rest in the node catalog. - Four new e2e checks in module 19: a flow port declared by mouse at the End, On Confirm in the graph, the call leaving through the further output while playing, Enter and Space on a real keyboard. - 19 unit counter-probes all fail their tests. One did not at first (a removed node kept its instance), a test was added. Two browser counter-probes fail their checks. - One screenshot looked at: On Confirm with exec and pressed, the second flow pin at the calling node. - The e2e sum of 1680 is counted (1676 + 4), the full suite and the smokes did not run. - Not seen in the browser: flow inputs at the Start, nesting, the ring, values through On behavior, the palette entry. No test holds that the sounds of the entity go on when a heard behavior ends. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Say what a button without words does when the pointer rests (#209)
The top bar, the magnet, the eye and many marks of the inspector are
pictures without a caption. Whoever did not know one could only try
it. The toolkit had no hint on hover, which also forced the point
menu of #195 to be words. The answers in the issue settle the open
points: a cut tab name shows in full, shortcuts are part of the
text, the point menu stays as it is.
- Button takes a tooltip, a text or a function asked each time. It
shows on a small sign once the pointer has rested for half a
second.
- There is one sign for the page, a TooltipLayer on the overlay
above the menus. A control reports each pointer move and the
pointer leaving, the layer does the waiting.
- A press, a key, the wheel or a blur of the window takes the sign
away. initUI listens for them on the window.
- placeTooltip in ui/tooltip.ts is the rule for the place as a pure
function: under the control and flush left, flush right at the
right border, above the control at the bottom.
- toolbarTip says what the five buttons of the top bar do right now.
Undo and redo name their step from CommandStack.undoLabel and
redoLabel, as in "Undo Paint tiles (Ctrl+Z)".
- A SortableList reports its own marks with a key per mark: the eye,
the duplicate mark, the cross and the plus.
- The magnet, both fullscreen buttons, the eye of the scene tab, the
overflow of the tab strip, the plus of the assets panel, the marks
of the inspector rows and the nine anchors of the resize dialog
carry a text.
Decided here:
- Every button whose text is cut short shows the whole text, not
only a tab.
- A row action of the inspector names the one thing a click does. A
button that opens a menu says only Reset, Apply or Size from the
picture.
- A button just clicked stays quiet until the pointer has left it.
- A greyed out button shows no sign.
- The switches of the eye popup, the cross of a document tab and the
tools of pixel art have none. The tools carry words, other than
the issue assumes.
- The marks of a list say Show or Hide, Duplicate, Remove and Add,
whatever the list holds.
Found on the way:
- Signing out empties the overlay and would have destroyed a sign on
screen with it. The editor takes the tooltip away first. This has
no test of its own.
- The text hooks locate and has skip the sign, or it would answer
for the button under it.
Tests:
- Gate on melektaus-atx: 210 files, 3209 tests (3176 + 33), exit 0

Move a large graph instead of drawing it again (#292)
In a graph of many nodes the frame rate dropped while panning, and more so while one node was dragged. Every pointer move rebuilt every box, every text and every curve, and a drag also announced a changed project, so the panels rebuilt along with it. - Panning and zooming move the picture. GraphCanvas.applyView sets position and scale and draws anew only the grid and the rubber band. It used to call redraw(). - A node draws its box and makes its texts only when what they show has changed. NodeView keeps a signature of what redraw reads and one of what rebuildTexts reads, and returns early while they hold. - A drag does not announce a changed project. GraphDrags writes the model on every pointer move and asks the canvas once a frame to follow (GraphCanvasHost.moved). state.preview() waits for the command of the release. - Nodes outside the picture are not drawn. inView in graphView.ts is the rule, cull() applies it after every redraw and every change of the view. - The graph is a render group, and box and pins go into the batch. The mask sits on a container above the group, on the group itself it would be panned and zoomed along. - The rubber band and the drop mark of a dragged behavior are drawn on their own (drawBand), without a redraw of the graph. Measured in the CI image with 388 nodes and 540 links, fitted to the canvas, 240 pointer moves 16 ms apart: - Pan, script per move: 25.2 ms before, 2.0 ms after - Pan: 4.4 frames per second before, 18.7 after - Drag a node: 2.7 frames per second before, 22.4 after - The still picture: 9 frames per second before, 21 after Not solved: the still picture of such a graph stays at 21 frames per second in the test browser. What is left is the drawing itself, and the frame rates are those of that browser, not of a desktop GPU. Tests: - Gate on melektaus-atx: 207 files, 3121 tests (3114 + 7), exit 0 - e2e 4,6,18,19,20,23,24,26,28,31,36,43,51,53 on melektaus-atx: 542 pass, 1 fail. The fail is module 51 after module 43, an order the suite does not have, and it fails the same way without this change. Module 51 alone: 12 checks, all pass. - No full run and no smokes. The sum of 1660 (1656 + 4) is reckoned, and the CI workflow is switched off. - Seven unit tests: six for inView in tests/editor/graph-view.test.ts and one in frame-preview.test.ts - Four e2e checks in block 6z-xii of module 06: pan, drag, zoom in and fit, a changed value - Seven browser counter-probes fail 2 to 3 checks each Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Put the text and boxes of the interface on device pixels
On a screen scaled to 125 % or 150 % the editor looked soft beside a page the browser draws itself. The layout counts in whole CSS pixels, and most of those fall between two device pixels there. The GPU averages both: text loses its edges, and a 1 px line becomes a pixel and a half of mixed colour. Now text and boxes are rounded to device pixels, and a line is one device pixel wide. - ui/pixelGrid.ts holds the rule. crispText() makes a text with Pixi's roundPixels, crisp() does the same for a Graphics of upright boxes, and hairline() is the width of one device pixel. - Every text of the interface is made with crispText() instead of new Text(). - crisp() only rounds where the scale is not a whole number. At 100 % and 200 % nothing changes. - drawControlBox, drawHeaderBar and drawSectionBand draw their lines a hairline wide and flush with the edge. The widgets that draw lines of their own do the same. - Two bands share exactly the line they draw, and a column still ends on a whole pixel. - The stage is nudged by 1/32 px where the scale is not whole. At 150 % every odd pixel is an exact half, and without the nudge one band came out a row shorter than its neighbours. - Curves, icons and everything of the game stay unrounded. Rounding their points would bend them. - The harness takes deviceScaleFactor as an option, and the hooks deviceColumn, edgeContrast and pixelGrid read the frame as the screen gets it. Not in here: the subpixel smoothing a browser gives its own text. Pixi draws a text into a transparent picture first, and there only greyscale smoothing is possible. Measured at 150 %, edge contrast before and after: top bar 31.5 to 47.8, the lists on the left 68.6 to 86.4, inspector 27.6 to 38.4. At 100 % it is 46.5, 90.1 and 37.9, and the picture there is the same as before pixel for pixel, apart from the fps display. Tests: - Gate on melektaus-atx: 206 files, 3114 tests (3104 + 10), exit 0 - Full run on melektaus-atx: 1655 of 1656 checks passed, smokes 24/19/21. The one that failed was a condition of the new step 62 itself: it scrolled an inspector that had nothing to scroll. The step now makes the window lower for that reading. - e2e 61,62 after that fix: 14 checks. The full run was not repeated, and CI is switched off for now. - Ten unit tests, nine in tests/ui/pixel-grid.test.ts - Eight e2e checks in the new step 62, which runs at 150 % - Eleven unit counter-probes fail tests - Four browser counter-probes fail their checks. They ran before the fix to step 62 and were not repeated for it. - Screenshots looked at for 125 % and 150 % Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Pick a link on its line and delete it from there (#289)
A link could only be removed through the menu of its port, and the line itself took no input. A transition of a state machine could only be deleted in the list of the inspector. Now the line is the handle, in a behavior's graph and between states alike. - A click on a line selects that link and draws a halo behind it. A press counts within 6 screen pixels of the line, and where two cross the one drawn last wins. - Ctrl-click or Shift-click adds a link or takes it away. The rubber band takes every line it crosses, into the same selection as the nodes and boxes it caught. - Delete or Backspace removes what is picked as one undo step. A right-click on a line offers Hide link and Delete link. - The inspector shows a picked link: the node and port at each end and the type it carries, with Hide link and Delete link below. For several it says how many. - The arrow of a transition is picked the same way, on its name too. Delete or a right-click with Delete transition removes it. - The menu of a port is unchanged, Disconnect included, as answered in the issue. - editor/graph/edgeHit.ts holds the hit test as pure functions, and editor/inspector/edgeSection.ts builds the section. The selection has a new kind edge, and node and annotation carry edgeIds. Decided here: - A hidden link has no line and is never picked this way, also while it is shown on loan. Its mark at the port stays its handle. - The menu of a line speaks about the whole selection, like the menu of a box. With nodes or boxes held alongside it reads Delete N items. - Hiding picked links lets go of them, since no line is left. - A link wins over the box it crosses, and a mark wins over a link. - A transition has no Hide entry. - With nodes or boxes in the selection the inspector keeps showing the node or box, not the link. Tests: - Gate: 201 files, 2982 tests (2967 + 15), exit 0 - e2e, full run: 1635 checks passed (1629 + 6), exit 0 - Smokes: 24 / 19 / 21, exit 0 - The full run was done for exactly this state. - 15 unit tests in tests/editor/edge-selection.test.ts - Six e2e checks with a real mouse, block 6z-xi in module 06 and 26e7 in module 26 - 12 unit counter-probes all fail tests, run on stein2 - Three browser counter-probes fail, the build went through each time: no hit on the line, no halo, a band that skips lines - Screenshots of a picked link and a picked transition looked at before the last build, none after it Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Query objects in bulk and filter, count or test a list (#259)
The object queries only ever returned one object: Object by name, Child by name and Find all stop at the first hit. Getting every coin, every child or every item that passes a test needed a For each with its own bookkeeping. These nodes return the whole set as a list of Object, so For each and Find can use item straight away. - Objects by name returns every scene object with that name in scene order. - Children by name returns every match below object, nearer levels first, the same order as the singular node. - Children returns the direct children, with recursive all of them level by level. - Objects of asset returns every instance of an object asset or container by the same rule as Is asset, spawned ones included. - All four take a snapshot. Destroyed objects are never in it, disabled ones are, as with the singular nodes. - Find has a Mode setting: First, All, Any and Count. First is the default and hides the row, so existing graphs look the same. - Match follows the mode of its paired Find: done with items and indices, done with any, or done with count. An unpaired Match shows First, since the pairing only comes from the wiring. - First and Any stop at the first hit, All and Count walk the list. - Changing the mode drops edges at outputs the Match no longer has, in one undo step. SetNodeParamCommand now cleans the whole graph, but only edges that were valid before the change. - The palette entry "filter" adds a Find set to All with its Match. Found on the way: - After adding the filter entry, "find" + Enter picked Filter. The entry has node type Find, counted as an exact hit, and the tie went to the alphabet. The search now ranks by the entry id. e2e 6z-v caught it. Tests: - ./check.sh: 188 files, 2746 tests, CHECK EXIT 0. - find-modes.test.ts with 11 tests, 11 catalog cases for the four nodes, the asset input guard now expects 3. - e2e 6z-vii with 3 checks: filter from the palette, Count picked in the inspector drops the items edge, a run logs 2, 2, 2, 3, 4, "0, 2". - GM_STEPS=1-6: all passed, 278 checks. - Counter-checks fail as expected: every mode stopping early (2), Match ignoring the mode (6), cleanup on the own node only (1), no recursion (2), no inOrder (2), old ranking (1). In the browser a Match ignoring the mode fails both editor checks. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Split a struct output into one pin per field (#256)
Reading one field of a struct needed its own Expand node, even where the graph already knows the struct type. A split output shows the fields directly on the node, so a Find … Match test becomes a single Equals and the wires keep running left to right. - Right-clicking an output pin offers "Split into <Type> fields" when the type is known and "Split as …" for every other struct asset. The output is replaced by one pin per field with the field's kind. - The type is known for typed struct variables, typed Pack/Expand, fields of another split and item of For each, Find, Match and Item at over a typed list (portSplits.ts). - Right-clicking a field pin offers "Recombine". Splitting drops the edges of the whole output, recombining drops the field edges. One undo step brings them back. - The split is stored as GraphNode.splits and saved with the graph. Copy and paste carry it along. - Field pins follow the struct asset like a typed Expand. A new field gets a pin, a removed field loses pin and edge, a renamed field keeps its edge. Deleting the asset keeps the last fields. The delete dialog counts splits, so it now says "node(s)" instead of "Pack/Expand node(s)". - Renaming a variable carries its split and the field edges along. - At run time the node still produces the whole value. A field pin reads its field like Expand, a missing field reads as empty. - Limits: outputs only, one level, behavior graphs only. Tests: - ./check.sh: 185 files, 2706 tests, CHECK EXIT 0 - e2e GM_STEPS=1-6,54,55: ALL PASSED, 303 checks - New port-splits.test.ts with 12 tests. e2e 6z-vi with 3 checks using a real mouse: split Find.item, wire item.Name into the test and Match.item.Amount into the log (logs 7), recombine. - Counter-checks: without field reads in the interpreter, without rename in the split, without moving edges on rename and without cleanup on field removal one unit test fails each. In the browser, without field reads nothing is logged and without type inference the split entry is missing. - Check total in README: 1520. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Find the first matching item with a Find … Match block (#255)
Searching a list with For each needs the test result wired back into break on the left of the loop node. The wires then run across the node and the graph reads badly. Find … Match keeps the whole search flowing left to right, while the test in between stays a free graph. - Find takes exec and list and offers item and index. It sets them to each element in turn and has no exec output of its own. - Match reads its bool input match once per element. The first true value continues at found with item and index of the hit. No hit or an empty list continues at not found with an empty item and index -1. - The pair is derived from the wiring and stored nowhere. A Match belongs to the Find whose item or index its test is built from. Copy, paste and undo therefore need no extra code (findBlock.ts). - An unpaired Find or Match, two Matches on one Find and a Match fed by two Finds show a warning on the node. At run time the flow ends at an unpaired Find and the console says so. - Adding Find from the palette places its Match 480 px to the right in the same undo step. - The graph draws a quiet frame behind Find, Match and the nodes of the test. Literals feeding the test from outside stay outside the frame. - The test consists of data nodes only, like the break of For each. Tests: - ./check.sh: 184 files, 2694 tests, CHECK EXIT 0 - e2e GM_STEPS=1-6: ALL PASSED, 272 checks - New find-match.test.ts with 12 tests, 2 catalog cases, e2e 6z-v with 3 checks using a real mouse. - Counter-checks: ignoring the test fails 4 unit tests, no ambiguity check fails 2, framing everything fails 1. In the browser, no frame and no Match from the palette each fail their check. - Check total in README: 1517. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Copy and paste scene objects and graph nodes (#240)
Copy and paste only existed for animation keys. Building a scene or a graph meant placing every object and node again by hand, even when the same arrangement was needed twice. - Ctrl+C copies the selected objects with their whole subtree, or the selected nodes with their links, groups and comments. Ctrl+V pastes into the scene, container or graph of the visible tab. - The copy is a snapshot in the editor's own clipboard, in memory. It holds asset ids, so the system clipboard is not used. It is cleared when another project opens. - A paste lands under the mouse pointer when it is over the view, and keeps its arrangement. Otherwise it lands one grid step beside the original. Each further copy that still exists moves one step on, so an undone copy does not count. - Objects get new ids for the whole subtree. They paste into the one selected object and keep their look under the new parent. If that object is the original or an earlier copy, the paste lands beside it instead of nesting deeper with every Ctrl+V. - A placed container stays a container. Content copied out of a container pastes as plain objects. Pasting a container into its own template is refused. - Nodes paste only where the palette would offer them. A second Start or End, a State in a behavior or a behavior calling itself is left out, and a notice names what was dropped. - Menus: Copy and Paste in the object menu, a new Paste menu on empty scene space, Copy in the node and box menus, Paste in the palette. - Ctrl+V still imports a picture from the system clipboard when the copy does not fit the tab. While objects are copied, the scene and container tabs use Ctrl+V for them, as the timeline does for keys. Not checked in the browser: paste in the container tab, in state machine, shader and particle graphs, and from the hierarchy menu. The shared code path covers them. Tests: - ./check.sh: 175 files, 2531 tests, CHECK EXIT 0 - e2e 51 (new): ALL PASSED, 11 checks with real keys and clicks - 13 unit tests in tests/editor/clipboard.test.ts, one of them pins the grid step after undo found during e2e - 7 counter-checks all fail as expected (6 unit, 1 in the browser) Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Give unconnected node inputs the default the node shows (#234)
A new node handed null to every unconnected input that had no port default, even a Bool. The inspector showed false, 0, "" or an empty list at the same time, so what the node read was not what the editor said. 97 of 135 inputs of the built-in nodes were affected. - inlineValue() falls back to the default the inspector shows. One place covers every node, also future ones and saved projects. - A default list is handed out as a fresh copy per read, so a node that edits its input in place cannot change the shared default. - The node shows the value it reads: an empty text or list as (empty), an object or struct input without a link as (null). Live values while playing use the same words. - A key input without a key keeps showing a dash, like the key field in the inspector. - Visible changes in old projects: To text without input gives "" instead of "0", Select and First not empty give "" instead of null. Tests: - 8 new unit tests in tests/core/inline-defaults.test.ts, among them one over all built-in nodes that no typed-in input reads null. - The e2e check in module 6 reads the rows of an unlinked Name of node. The check sum stays the same. - ./check.sh: 167 files, 2434 tests, exit 0. e2e 6: 117 checks. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Zoom the tile tab in the same steps as the scene view
The tile tab zoomed freely, so the pixels of a tile could end up
unevenly wide at odd factors. Scene view, container tab and animation
preview already snap to FREE_ZOOM_STEPS. The tile tab now does the
same, so every pixel editor zooms alike.
- The wheel steps through FREE_ZOOM_STEPS, counted in device pixels.
The board position is rounded to whole device pixels.
- New wheelSteps() in src/viewport/view.ts turns wheel events into
steps: one notch is one step, a trackpad gathers 50 px per step.
FreeViewport uses it too, so the rule exists only once.
- Fit takes the largest step at which the whole board fits. Refitting
on a new tab or board size stays as before.
- panAndZoom takes an optional zoom rule instead of limits. Graph and
node board keep zooming freely.

Let behaviors read and set tilemap cells while the game runs (#135)
A behavior could move sprites around but had no way to look at or
change the tilemap it was standing on. Doors, breakable blocks and
"is there ground ahead?" checks all need that.
- New nodes Tile at, Set tile, World to cell and Cell to world. The
conversion honours position, rotation, scale and mirroring of the
placed map. A small Tile literal node lets a graph compare what it
read against a fixed tile.
- The layer is picked by name from all tilemap layers in the project
through a new field kind. "First layer" takes the map's first one.
Because layer is an input, a text can also be wired in.
- Each placement keeps only its edited cells in liveTilemap.ts,
layered over the asset's cells. A second placement of the same map
stays untouched, and the asset itself is never written.
- A read sees a Set tile from earlier in the same flow. Drawing picks
up the edit at once and neighbouring autotile edges adapt.
- Solids see the edits straight away, so a Move in the same frame
already hits the new cell. Rapier rebuilds its shapes on the next
step.
- After Stop the map is back to what was painted. The editor run shows
the edit in the scene view while it lasts and does not touch the
project.
- An unwired tilemap input means no map, like Get position. Cells
outside the grid are refused and done reports false.
Tests:
- ./check.sh: 155 files, 2271 tests, CHECK EXIT 0 (before 2245).
- tests/core/tile-access.test.ts (14), one physics test for a floor
set at runtime, catalog entries for the five nodes.
- e2e 39,40: all passed, 86 checks (before 81), five new in 40s.
- Counter-checks: collision ignoring edits fails 3 unit tests, the
solids cache missing same-tick edits fails only the "at once" test,
drawing ignoring edits fails the 2 drawing checks, the editor run
not reporting a new tile fails only its check.
- 40s uses a still tile. The animated fixture tile redraws every frame
and hid the last counter-check at first.

Dragging previews once per frame instead of on every move (#213)
Scene view, texture tab and graph called state.preview() on every pointer move. Each call rebuilds panels, the editor run and generated images, so a drag in a busy project cost up to 34 ms per move. The model is still written on every move. Only the preview now waits for the next frame. - New FramePreview in src/editor/framePreview.ts. request() goes into the move handler, cancel() into the release. The rule lives in one place instead of six copies. - Scene view: object drag, polygon corners and tilemap strokes use it. - Texture tab: frames, slice edges and collision corners use it. - Graph: nodes, groups and comments use it through GraphDrags. That covers the state machine, shader and particle tabs as well. - Vector art is unchanged. Its frame already writes the model since #129. Findings: - The texture tab paid twice per move (232 project events for 120 moves). Pixi sends a second pointer event 4 to 8 ms after each real move as a hover update. It now lands in the same frame for free. - Inspector scrubbing and gradient stop dragging still preview on every input. Both lie outside the three canvases of the issue. Measured with a throwaway probe, 120 moves at 8 ms, 120 extra objects: scene 26.2 -> 18.5 ms/move, texture 34.2 -> 17.9, graph 28.8 -> 17.0. Project events dropped from 120/232/119 to 48/48/41. Tests: - ./check.sh: 147 files, 2204 tests, exit 0 (before 146 / 2199). - 5 new unit tests in tests/editor/frame-preview.test.ts, including the real GraphDrags. Counter-checks (direct preview in the graph, no cancel on release, one key per name) each fail the expected test. - e2e 1-16,29,31,36,37,39-43: 708 checks passed. - e2e 1-16,26,28: 634 checks passed. - No new e2e check, the check sum stays at 1314. Split wiring, drags and the frame layer out of GraphCanvas (#215)
GraphCanvas had grown to 1406 lines. Wiring, dragging and the frame
views each carry their own state, so they now live in their own
classes behind a narrow host interface. Behaviour is unchanged.
- GraphCanvasHost is what the new classes see of the canvas.
- Wiring owns dragging a pin, the palette on a drop into empty space
and "Make transition".
- GraphDrags owns moving nodes and frames, including snapping.
- AnnotationLayer holds the frame views. The test hooks stay on the
canvas and read the views through the layer.
- BeadClock moves into beads.ts and can now be tested without a
browser.
- The canvas builds host, wiring and drags in its constructor because
state is a parameter property and not set during field init.
- GraphCanvas is down to 1019 lines.
Tests:

- New e2e check in 36k: a frame caught by the rubber band is also
drawn as selected. No check covered that before. Against a bent

Refactoring round 6: shared sheet canvas, fewer copies (#85)
Recurring cleanup round. Behaviour is unchanged. Duplicated code in
src went from 27 clones with 299 lines to 6 clones with 56 lines
(jscpd, the two identical OFL licence texts not counted).
- SheetCanvas is the new base of the texture, pixel art and vector art
canvases. It holds background, mask, hint, panning, wheel zoom, fit,
view save and restore and the screen mapping. Pixel art keeps its
whole-pixel panning and fixed zoom steps.
- mixColor in src/core/util/color.ts replaces three copies in
animation, gradient and particles. It clamps t like the particle one.
- fingerprint now lives once in generated.ts, next to the revision
contract from #185.
- MoveCommand next to RenameCommand is the base of the three reorder
commands for tile pictures, tilemap layers and vector shapes.
- The two raycast nodes share inputs, settings and filter via rayOf.
- canvasRect() lives once in AssetTabEditor.
- Removed unused code: findPixelArt, isDrawableShape,
GeneratedPictures.has and SnapToggle.snapping. Tests now check the
same things through equivalent paths.
- 38 values used only in their own file lost their export.
- Three comments that told history now describe the current state.
The bundle stayed md5-identical for those edits.
- README lists vector art, pixel art and palette, and links the two
wiki pages.
Findings:
- PaintTilesCommand.changes is meant to prevent empty undo steps but
has not been called since #128. The rectangle tool therefore records
a no-op undo step when it paints the same tile over itself. Left as
is, because fixing it changes behaviour.
- No test covered middle-click panning in any sheet tab before. 13f
and 48a now check it.
- The default values of the ray inputs were untested. Length 1000
could become 10 without a red test. tests/core/raycast.test.ts now
covers it.
- CI measured 1308 editor checks at

A port can take its type from what is plugged into it (#207)
Until now every port of "First not empty" was grey and typeless, so the
editor could not tell you what actually travels through the node. The
output is now typed as soon as both inputs agree, and every any-input is
painted in the colour of its own edge. Nothing changes at runtime.
- A NodeDef can declare which of its ports carry the same value
(`sharedType: { inputs, outputs }`). The rule itself lives as a pure
function `agreedType` in `src/core/graph/portTypes.ts`.
- Only the output inherits. It becomes the shared type when every input
of the group is connected and they all carry the same type, otherwise
it stays `any`.
- The inputs stay `any` on purpose. `canConnect` checks against the port
type and a busy input is replaced by the new edge, so a typed `a`
could never be re-plugged with a text without disconnecting first.
- Chains do not propagate. When looking up what feeds an input, a node
of the same kind reports the `any` it is registered with, so two of
them in a row stay untyped and a data cycle cannot ask itself in a
circle.
- An edge that the new type makes invalid stays where it is and turns
red. `EdgeLayer` already paints a mismatching edge with `danger`,
nothing is disconnected on its own.
- New `PortDef.paintType`: colour only, never truth. It is set in
`drawnDef` and read in `NodeView.redraw`, so `canConnect`, the
interpreter and the compiler keep seeing `any`. Every connected
any-input is painted, not just members of a `sharedType` group; ghost
ports keep their hollow red look.
- The pin now matches the edge that ends in it, because both take the
colour from the resolved output type of the neighbour. Mixed sources
therefore show two colours, which explains why the output stays grey.
- New hooks `__gm.graph.portTypes(id)`, `__gm.graph.edgeColor(id)` and
`__gm.themeColor(name)`. `portTypes` reports type and paint colour
separately so the type checks do not silently become colour checks.
Findings:
- `resolveDef` only appends derived ports to the registered ones, so a
fixed port cannot be retyped that way -- it would appear twice. The
shared type is therefore resolved before the ports are built.
- Answer 5 of the issue (inline field follows the type) has no case left
under variant A: an unconnected input stays `any` and keeps its text
field.
- `Item at`, `Join` and `Equals` do not profit: `Item at` has no
any-input, the other two have fixed outputs. The next candidates are
the shader arithmetic nodes, which were left alone.
Tests:
- ./check.sh -> 143 files, 2127 tests, exit 0 (was 142 / 2113)
- GM_STEPS=1-6 fresh -> ALL PASSED, 245 checks (was 242), 9 of them new
- 14 new unit tests in tests/core/shared-port-type.test.ts
- 9 new e2e checks in block 6z, one of them a pixel check straight on
the pin via pixelAt + themeColor
- Counter-probes all bite: filtering unconnected inputs out of
`agreedType` fails 3 unit tests, ignoring `inherit` fails 1, killing
the derivation in the bundle fails exactly the 2 expected e2e checks,
and never setting `paintType` fails 4 unit tests plus the 3 pin
checks (#bdbdbd instead of #e6a8ff / #6fcf97)
- Screenshot read: `a` pink, `b` green, output `value` grey, edges in
the same colours
- Check total 1302 (1299 + 3), 1293 was measured by CI at

Snap is a magnet button in every graph and vector art tab (#194)
The snap toggle was a checkbox with the word "Snap" next to Fit, and the vector art tab had its own "Grid" button for the same idea. Both now share one square icon button, so snapping looks and works the same wherever it exists. - SnapToggle is a square toggle button with a magnet icon and no text. It lights up blue when snapping is on, like the other toggle buttons. - The magnet is drawn with cubic curves instead of arcs, because the Pixi SVG parser draws arcs as jagged edges. - The vector art tab drops its Grid button and uses the same SnapToggle. It still snaps to 8 px, the graph tabs to 24 px. - SnapToggle accepts anything with setSnapping(on). The vector art canvas method is renamed from setSnap to setSnapping for that. - Every tab exposes the button as __gm.<tab>.snapButton(). Modules 06, 26 and 36 click through that hook instead of the label "Snap" plus 30 px. Tests: - ./check.sh: 129 files, 1903 tests (was 128 / 1897) - 3 new tests in tests/editor/snap-toggle.test.ts, 3 in the icon tests - GM_STEPS=1-6,26,36,47 fresh: ALL PASSED, 346 checks - GM_STEPS=47: ALL PASSED, 32 checks (was 29) - Counter-checks: toggle not switching its target fails 2 unit tests, the canvas ignoring the switch fails module 47 - Check total 1188 in README and wiki is computed (1184 + 4), the full run is left to CI Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

The Raycast node filters by collision layers: the node gained a "Layers" setting, a tickbox per collision layer of the project - the same field kind the collider uses for "Collides with" - and the ray only hits what sits on a ticked layer, tilemaps counting as colliders; the default is every layer, and a graph without the param answers exactly as before, which is its own unit test; the check is one-sided on purpose, unlike the symmetric rule of #152: a ray is not a collider, so it never reads the collidesWith of the thing it hits - a collider that meets nothing is still seen by a ray - because who a ray may look at is the ray's business, and a unit test holds that case; the filter sits in Solids.raycast in front of the intersection test, which is the one path the editor run and Play both take, so every unit test runs through describe.each against both systems; NodeView did not know the field kinds layer/layers, so the node would have read "Layers: 65533" - it now shows the name of the layer, or "All layers"; 5 new e2e checks in the new block 43d (a shield on its own layer between the caster and the floor stops the ray, the "Layers" row on the node, the tickbox menu with the project's layers, the ray reaching 280 instead of 145 units once the shield's layer is unticked, and the mask read as a name) and 6 new unit tests, three against each system; two counter-checks hold: disarming the filter line drops 6 unit tests and the unticking check in module 43, and switching the formatting off makes the node check fail with the raw bits; two findings from measuring came out of it and stand in the wiki and the notes - __gm.rays() only measures while the Scene tab is in front, so a node selection blinds it and the block measures through a Log node on distance instead, and a running behavior instance keeps the graph it started with, so the editor run casts with the old mask until the instance is built anew (#158)

Refactoring round 5 covers the code since round 4 without changing behaviour: four identical copies of dot() and three of "nearest point on a segment" stood in the collision math, in the hit area of the collider outlines and in the polygon handles, so they moved into the new module src/core/util/vec.ts; the warning line, the busy state, info() and the caret reset were written out line by line in both the sign-in screen and the password dialog and are now FormStatus; the closing row "Cancel plus a confirming button, optionally one on the left" was built by hand in FormDialog, FilePicker, OpenProjectDialog and PasswordDialog and is now dialogButtons(); the header bar was drawn by the toolbar, the TabHeader and the Breadcrumb each on its own and is now drawHeaderBar(); AddColliderCommand and AddRigidbodyCommand share a base, each subclass only builds its own asset; Editor.ts derives the panes from assetEditors instead of repeating eight entries and clamps its splitters with clamp(); jscpd over src falls from 0.19 % to 0.14 %; dead code is gone - listScenes() has been orphaned since the Scene picker fell away (#183), DEFAULT_FILTER (#152) was never used, the two test hooks projectPickerRowAt/rowPosition and particleCompiles are read by no tool, and four functions lost an export they did not need; seven comments that told history ("used to", "no longer", "since #...") describe the state of things now, and that this changed nothing was proved by a rebuild - the bundle is md5 identical, b4ad0dfe... before and after; the README said Logout sits at the far right of the toolbar, which has been the Account menu since #182, and wiki/Architecture.md was missing src/core/util/ altogether; 4 new unit tests cover vec.ts, and switching the clamp on the segment off makes exactly one of them fail while none of the 76 neighbouring tests notice, so that clamping was covered nowhere before (#85)

Several transitions between the same pair of states: make transition onto a state that is already connected in that direction adds another transition, which gets its own name right away (Transition 2, Transition 3, skipping names that already leave the state), so two unnamed transitions between one pair never exist; renaming is refused when another transition between the same pair in the same direction already carries the name, the empty name included, while equal names to other targets are only warned about as before; the behavior graph keeps Already connected; self transitions may repeat too, each further loop drawn as a ring around the previous one with the preview showing the next ring, and transition labels that would cover another one slide along their own edge until they are free (pure function freeLabelSpot); test hook transitionLabelAt also returns width and height, e2e 26e6 (#162)

A state can transition to itself: make transition and a second click on the same state connects a self transition, taking it fires On state exited and then On state entered every time, for local and global machines, while Set state into the current state stays silent as before; only states may connect to themselves, every other node is still refused, one self transition per state; the loop is drawn over the middle of the top edge with its arrow pointing down and its name at the apex, the preview already shows it while armed, and the inspector lists it once under Transitions out; new test hook transitionLabelAt, e2e 26e5 (#163)

Tabs are open documents: Scene, Game and Plugins stay as fixed tabs, every other asset opens in its own tab (double click or Enter in the asset panel, on creation, from the list button), several assets of one kind can be open at once, a tab is labelled with its kind dimmed before the name, cut at 160 px and renamed with its asset, closes with its x or a middle click and goes away when its asset is deleted; a tab always shows its own document instead of following the selection, the picker in the tab head is gone, zoom and scroll are kept per document for the session and dropped on close, a double click on a call node stays in the same tab with breadcrumbs per tab; one editor per kind is switched between documents, the placement rules live in the pure module documents.ts, and the test hook showTab stays as a compatibility path; new e2e module 44 documents (#171)

Number fields drop trailing zeros: formatNumber still rounds to at most 3 decimals and then removes zeros at the end, so 100.000 reads 100 and 0.500 reads 0.5, everywhere (inspector, graph and shader nodes, duration and fps in the animation and tile tabs); a field's own decimals is now an upper limit, stored values are unchanged, -0 still shows as 0, and the graph's separate integer rule is gone (#172)
