Route sounds, songs and buses in one Master routing graph (#351)
A project bus could only go into one other bus, and a sound, an
instrument, a pattern or a song into exactly one bus. A shared reverb
needs a sound to go there in part and on dry at the same time. Instead
of a list of sends on every asset, the project gets one routing graph
like the routing of a song (#350), one level up.
- Menu -> Master routing opens a tab with one graph per project. It has
a node per sound, instrument, pattern, song and bus, named after its
asset, and one Master. Embedded assets have none, their song routes
them.
- The nodes follow the assets. Every edit settles the routing in the
same undo step (KeepRoutingCommand), so an undone delete brings the
links of its asset back. A new asset gets a node and a link to the
master. What went only into a deleted bus goes to the master.
- New nodes start in three columns: what plays, the buses, and the
master a row above, so no link into it runs behind a bus.
- Links are sends: -60 to +12 dB, and a Mode on links out of a bus or a
song. Out of a sound, an instrument or a pattern a link always takes
the sound after its volume and FX. Loops are refused.
- A node without a link is silent and says "Goes nowhere".
- The rows Bus and Into are gone. Play nodes with a picked bus still
overrule the routing.
- A click on a node shows its asset in the inspector, the Master shows
the master volume and sound FX. A double click opens the asset's tab.
- The graph lives in project.routing and is held to the assets when a
project is read, but nothing is added there. The editor adds the
nodes when it opens a project. An asset without a node plays on the
master, so old projects sound as before without a migration.
- In the mix an asset with one link at 0 dB goes straight into that bus.
A sound or instrument with more gets a bus of its own with the sends.
A pattern or song sends from the master of its playing, which is
where its Mode taps. Buses of the mix can have sends now too.

Mix sounds through buses and a master (#325)
Until now every sound went straight to the speakers. There was no point where all of them came together, so nothing could turn the music down against the effects, and a compressor or a shared echo over everything had nowhere to sit. The bus technique of #346 was there already, only the end of the chain was missing. - Bus asset (Audio): Volume, Sound FX and Into. Into is empty for the master and never offers the bus itself nor a bus that already goes into it. The list is worked out when the menu opens, so a change made meanwhile counts. A loop that is in a project anyway sends the buses on it into the master. - The master is no asset. Its volume and sound FX are two new rows under Master in Project settings, one undo step each. A project written before has 1 and none, which is how it sounded. - Sound, instrument, pattern and song have a row Bus, empty for the master. Play sound, Play note, Play pattern and Play song have an input bus: From the asset, Master or a bus. Inside a song or a pattern only the bus of the song or pattern counts. - Set bus volume (bus, volume, time, easing) and Bus volume. An empty bus is the master. The volume set holds for the whole run, across scenes, over that of the asset. GameRun resets it at start and end. Set sound FX parameters without a voice now reaches the sound FX of the bus picked in its new bus input. - SoundLibrary: the master is the bus "mix", each bus "mix:<id>". Every bus, the playing masters of #346 included, ends there, and only the master is heard. setMix sets them up once a context exists, so an editor nobody listened to opens no audio device. The same mix again changes nothing, which lets the editor hand it over on every change of the project. - The tabs play as the game does: Sound, Sound FX, Instrument, Pattern and Song tab through the bus of their asset and the master. - Pause game does nothing to the buses (the user's answer 4b). A game that wants quiet in its pause menu sets a bus volume itself. - Streaming long music files is #349, split off as asked. Finding on the way: the Into menu first worked from a list made when the inspector row was built. After another bus was sent into the open one, e2e 34 saw it still offered. It is now asked on open. The SoundLibrary tests expected voices to end at the destination. They now end in the master, which adds its input, level and pan to every wiring and two gains to every list. Those expectations are updated, nothing else in them changed. Tests: - Unit buses (new): 15 green. Ten counter-checks, each red on its own: loop check, bus picked, reset at run start, bus of Set sound FX parameters, master volume in the settings, and in SoundLibrary default into the master, voices into the master, run volume over the mix, no context before a play, a playing on its bus. - Unit sound-library: 90 green (5 new). Node catalog: 416 green (9 new cases). - e2e 34 (melektaus-atx): ALL PASSED, 75 checks (3 new). The voice of the Sound tab was heard on mix:<bus>, that bus into the other, that one at 0.5 into the master. Master volume 0.6 via the dialog, undo back to 1. - Gate (melektaus-atx): CHECK EXIT 0, 262 files, 4072 tests. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Send a track, a pattern item or a whole song through a sound FX (#346)
A sound FX could only be put on a single sound. Now a track, a pattern item, a Play pattern and a Play song send everything they play through one chain of it, as an insert in a DAW. A Play note gets one of its own. - Track: an FX box in the head next to M and S opens a menu of the project's sound FX, and the track's inspector has the row too. Order: items, track FX, volume, pan. - Pattern item: Sound FX in its inspector. Its notes play on a bus of their own into the track's bus. - Play pattern and Play song take fx and fx params. The chain sits on the master of the playing, after the tracks and before the level and the fades. Set sound FX parameters reaches it by the playback. - Play note takes fx and fx params next to the instrument's params. The FX parameters go by "fx:" so the two sets stay apart. Set sound FX parameters on a note changes a name both have in both. - A Pitch on a bus is a new PitchShifter: the phase vocoder of the PitchPlayer, fed while it plays. It cannot look ahead and is exactly one frame late at every pitch, 2048 samples. - That latency is made up. The other way of a Mix is held back by a delay of the same length. Every note and clip starts as much earlier as the buses it passes are late. The scheduler plans that much further ahead, and the first note waits that much after Play. - The Song tab waits for the chains before it plays and lets its buses go a moment after Stop. A playing in a game lets them go after its echoes and what the shifters still hold. - songBuses moved to its own file. Kept in song.ts it pulled the FX compiler into the node registry through an import cycle. Decisions of the user: one chain for the whole (1a), FX everywhere asked for (2a), Set sound FX parameters on playbacks (3a), and a pitch shifter of its own with exact latency compensation for a Pitch on a bus. Tests: - Unit pitch-shifter (new): 11 green. At 0 semitones the output is the input 2048 samples later, off by at most 1.2e-7. - Unit sound-library: 84 green, 8 new. Counter-checks (no early start, no Mix delay, chain made every time, tune misses the master) each turned their test red. - Unit bus-fx (new): 6 green, 4 counter-checks red. Scheduler ahead: 1 new, its counter-check red. - e2e 65 (melektaus-atx): ALL PASSED, 35 checks, 4 new, first run. Chrome at 44.1 kHz: the bus was 0.046440 s late, the note started exactly that much early. Offline the shifter moved 1 kHz to 2000 Hz and passed a click 2048 samples later. - Gate (melektaus-atx): CHECK EXIT 0, 259 files, 4021 tests. Play and stop a song from a behavior in the game #336
A song could only be heard in its tab. Now a game plays it through Play song and ends it through Stop song, with its tracks as they are set. A playing pattern or song also no longer undoes the pause of the toolbar. - Play song plays from the start of the song and then round the loop of its ruler, so an intro is heard once. Without loop it plays once to its end. Inputs are song, volume, fade in, loop (on by default) and detached (off by default). It gives out playback. - Stop song stops one song, every song for none, or one playback by its number, over its fade out. Stop sound with no sound named stops songs too. Stop pattern with no pattern named stops only patterns. - Songs play side by side, as patterns do. They are owned like a sound, so leaving the scene ends one unless it is detached. Pause game and the time scale leave the music alone. - Each playing is heard through a master of its own, silent until its first note. The fades move it, and a song's tracks sit inside it on buses of their own. They go once the playing and its voices have. - Notes and clips are struck the same way in the editor and the game (strikeNote, playClip). What a sequence needs comes from one place (core/music/needs). Findings: - Reading the audio clock resumed a suspended context. A playing pattern read it every 25 ms and so undid the toolbar's pause. The library now leaves a context alone while the toolbar holds it. - A pattern played once to its end asked the list of playings about its voices, and that list asked the pattern again. Once its last voice was gone this ran until the stack overflowed. The scheduler of a playing now asks only after voices. - e2e 64 reads the playings through __gm.sound.playbacks() now. Tests: - song-play.test.ts (new): 8 tests, node catalog +8 cases - sound-library.test.ts: 66 tests, 4 new - e2e 64 (melektaus-atx): 23 of 23 checks passed - e2e 65 (melektaus-atx): ALL PASSED, 22 checks (+4) - Gate (melektaus-atx): CHECK EXIT 0, 251 files, 3903 tests - Counter-checks: the old way of asking after voices, a clock read that wakes a held context, and a start after a fade out began each fail 1 test Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Play and stop a pattern from a behavior in the game #336
A pattern could only be heard in its tab. Songs come with #334, and only then can #336 play them in a game. Until then a game plays a single pattern, looped or once, through two new nodes. - Play pattern plays the whole pattern through its instrument at its own tempo. The loop on the ruler is only for editing. Inputs are pattern, volume, loop (on by default) and detached. It gives out playback, 0 where there is no instrument or no note. - Stop pattern stops one pattern, every pattern for none, or one playback by its number. Let ring lets notes with an Envelope fall away in their release. - A playing is numbered and owned like a voice. Destroying the object, Stop sound with nothing named and the end of the run stop it. Stop sound with a voice takes a playback too. - Each playing runs on a scheduler of its own (core/music/playbacks). It waits for its files first, and a stop that came earlier wins. - The scheduler has an end for a sequence that does not loop. It stops waking there and is done once its last notes are. - The worker clock moved to viewport/wake.ts, so SoundLibrary can use it without importing music.ts. Tests: - pattern-play.test.ts (new): 8 tests, node catalog +7 cases - e2e 64 (melektaus-atx): ALL PASSED, 23 checks (+3) - Gate (melektaus-atx): CHECK EXIT 0, 248 files, 3854 tests - Counter-checks: no end in the scheduler, and no owner for the playing, each fail 1 test Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Play notes in time on the audio clock with a scheduler #332
Patterns and songs (#333, #334) have to play sample-accurate in time,
whatever the frame rate does. What is counted in game time runs away
from the sound. This lays the ground: musical time, a scheduler that
plans notes ahead on the audio clock, and a player that starts and ends
a note at a given second. Nothing in the editor plays a sequence yet,
the check scripts drive it through `__gm.music`.
- Ticks, 480 to the quarter as in MIDI files (decided in #332).
Triplets and quintuplets land on whole ticks. Any meter, a beat being
the note value under the line. The tempo always counts quarters.
- `core/music/sequence.ts` is a pure rule: the notes starting in a
window of playing time. Across the end of a loop it looks into the
next round, so the seam has no gap. A note past the loop end ends
there. Windows are whole ticks, and the seam is stepped exactly, so
no rounding can drop the first note of a round.
- `core/music/Scheduler.ts` plans the next 100 ms every 25 ms through a
host, so it is tested with a clock of its own. The first note sounds
50 ms after the start. Changes to the sequence are heard from the
next window on. Stop and seek fade what it started. A new tempo or
loop counts from what is planned, and the playhead keeps its old
pace until the clock gets there.
- The position is the audio clock less `outputLatency`, as bar, beat
and tick.
- The beat comes from a Web Worker (`viewport/musicTimer.ts`), which
keeps its pace in a hidden tab.
- The sound library starts a note at `timing.at`: a buffer source by
`start(when)`, the pitch worklet by counting down inside the render
block it falls in. A note's end is set on the clock at once, its
fade to the sample. Leaving a loop still waits for the page.
- Delay synced to beats (decided in #332, noted from #327): a setting
`Sync` (Seconds / Beats), `time` then in quarter notes, held to the
2 s of the line. Play sound and Play note have an input `tempo`,
120 BPM where nothing is connected. A scheduled note carries the
tempo of its sequence.
- Swing is left for #333/#334, as decided.

Play sounds as notes of an instrument asset #331
A sound could only be played as it was, one at a time. An instrument
is a node graph that makes a note a sound: Notes nodes bring the note
in, Samples play sound assets for it, the effects of a sound FX shape
it and the Output sums the layers. Its tab plays it from a keyboard,
a behavior with Play note. It is what patterns and songs (#330) will
play.
- New asset type instrument, under the heading Music, not placeable.
A new one starts as Notes into a Sample into the Output.
- Notes are counted as MIDI does: 60 is C4, names like C#4, sharps
only, the lowest C-1. Notes has From and To, outputs any, note,
frequency and velocity, and with Single notes a trigger per note,
each with an optional name for a drum kit.
- New port type trigger, only into the trigger of a source. Inputs
can take any number of edges now (PortDef.many): a trigger, and
the Output, which plays everything into it side by side.
- Sample plays a sound asset. Follow note shifts it by note - root
through the pitch worklet of #317, so it keeps its length. Gate
fades it out at the end of the note, One-shot plays through. Loop
runs between Loop start and Loop end, also in the worklet.
- Parameters declares the instrument's own parameters with a
default. Sound FX sends the sound through a sound FX asset, its
parameters as inputs, the sound set in where its Input was.
- compileInstrument walks the graph once per note. A trigger is on
only for the notes it stands for, a silent source silences what it
alone feeds, a Mix with a silent side is the other side. velocity
and the parameters stay open for the voice. Builds are cached per
note until the graph or a sound or FX it names changes.
- The player takes a note as one voice of several layers, each way
with its own file and volume. release fades the gated ways out,
one-shots play on. playNote can release after a duration.
- Play note plays one note with velocity, volume, duration and
detached, and hands out voice for Set sound FX parameters and
Stop sound. Velocity is always loudness. Instrument parameters
picks values for the instrument's parameters like Sound FX
parameters does for an FX, renames follow.
- The tab has the graph, a header field per parameter, Stop, and
128 keys below. Keys without sound are grey. A key plays while it
is held. Focused, the computer keyboard plays as in a tracker by
KeyboardEvent.code, the arrows move the octave.
Findings:
- A label of the keys set fill on the shared small text style and
darkened every small label of the editor. Caught in a screenshot
before the commit, the keys have a style of their own now.
- Suite task 523 on

Let echoes ring on with a Delay node in sound FX #324 #327
A voice used to end the moment its sources did, and Stop sound cut it dead. An echo has to outlive its sound, and a stop must not click. - Delay node: a delay line with a damped feedback loop, added at mix next to the untouched sound. Time 0.01 to 2 s, feedback up to 0.95, damping 20 kHz to 500 Hz evenly in octaves, all fed by parameters and moved by Set sound FX parameters like any other number. - Ping-pong is a setting of the node. It takes the sound into the left of the line and swaps the sides every round. - A voice with an echo rings on for its tail: until the last echo is 60 dB below the sound, from time, feedback and mix (fxTailOf). It stays reachable meanwhile, and a change counts the tail again. - The end of a tail is timed on the audio clock with a silent ConstantSourceNode, so a paused run holds it. Then the voice is disconnected, since an echo is a loop of nodes. - Stop sound fades a voice out in 10 ms instead of cutting it. Let ring fades only its sources and keeps the voice for its echoes. Where the context is suspended it cuts at once. - Stop sound takes a voice. Connected, it stops only that play, and a 0 from a Play sound that played nothing stops nothing. - Play sound hands out tail: length plus the echoes at its start values. - Destroying a behavior and ending a run still cut, echoes included. - No limit on voices. The emit of a sound FX node now also gets the node's settings. Finding: in Chrome every round of a feedback loop comes one render quantum late (128 samples, 2.7 ms at 48 kHz), measured as 0, 128, 256, 384 for the first four echoes. Left so, since a browser without it would then hear the echoes early. Written in the wiki. Tests: - sound-library, soundfx, node-catalog, sounds, keep-on-scene-load: 489 tests green. New: fade on stop, cut while suspended, echo and ping-pong wiring, ringing until the tail, tail counted again, let ring, stop by voice, echo knobs, delay compile, tail sums. - Counter-checks: no tail, a stop without fade, a connected voice 0 read as unconnected. Each fails its tests, files back by cmp. - e2e 34 (melektaus-atx): ALL PASSED, 37 checks. A blip through a ping-pong Delay (0.3 s, 0.5, 0.5) rang 2.97 s, 2.95 s worked out. Let ring kept the voice, a stop after it cut it. Rendered offline with the player's own stageNodes the echoes are 0.25 left, 0.125 right, 0.063 left. 64 stereo voices of it took about 0.3 s for 2 s, so about 400 play at once. - Gate (melektaus-atx): CHECK EXIT 0, 242 test files, 3713 tests. Hand out the length of a played sound from Play sound
Wired into the time of Set sound FX parameters, a change then spans exactly one run of the clip, so a fade or a filter sweep ends with its last sample. - Play sound has a second output, length, in seconds. It is 0 where nothing was played or the sound has not loaded yet. - The AudioSink gives the length of a file, the SoundLibrary takes it from the decoded buffer. A pitch the voice starts on keeps it (#312). - A pitch changed while the voice plays still changes its length, so a pitch sweep over length does not end with the sound. A pitch that keeps the length in real time is #317. Tests: - soundfx, sounds, keep-on-scene-load, node-catalog, sound-library: 462 tests green. - Counter-check: with length always 0, the catalog case and the new soundfx case fail. Offer the easings of an animation key on Lerp and sound FX ramps
A timed Set sound FX parameters ran only linearly, and a Lerp had four quadratic eases of its own. An animation key already had the full set. Now all three offer the same choice: Linear, Step, the ten curves from Sine to Bounce with In, Out or In-out, and a drawn Curve asset. - easingParams in src/core/graph/nodes/easing.ts gives a node the fields Easing, Direction and Curve from the key's own lists, and easingOfParams reads them back as a key interpolation. - There is no migration. A Lerp saved with the old in, out or inOut runs linear until its easing is picked again. - Set sound FX parameters hands the easing to the player. Linear and Step stay ramps of the audio clock, every other easing goes to setValueCurveAtTime as 200 samples a second, in semitones and dB. - Step now reaches its end at t 1. A key never asked for that, it reads the next key itself, so animations play as before. - The curve-in-use count and the warning for a gone curve cover the sound node too. Tests: - node-catalog: Lerp with cubic in, quad out and in-out, a curve without a direction, step, an unknown easing as linear. The sound node hands on a curve, step and a gone curve as linear. - sound-library: an eased change becomes a curve in semitones and decibels, a step a jump at the end. - node-catalog and curve after dropping the old values: 399, green. - e2e 6, 34, 53 on melektaus-atx: ALL PASSED, 198 checks. In Chrome a 2 s Quad in from depth 7 to -5 read speed 0.864 early and 0.5 at the end, a 1 s Step held 1 and then jumped to 0.5. - Counter-check: with curves sent as linear ramps, the curve test of the sound library fails. Ramp sound FX parameters over a time on the audio clock
A pitch sweep counted down in On update or On fixed update runs in game time, while the sound runs on the clock of the audio device. A short sound magnifies any offset between the two, so the sweep came out different on every play and most of all on the first. - Set sound FX parameters has a new input time in seconds. The values run evenly to their target in that time, scheduled on the audio clock with linearRampToValueAtTime or exponentialRampToValueAtTime. - Evenly in their own unit: a pitch in semitones and a gain in decibels, an EQ band and a Mix share linearly in their value. - A time of 0 or below keeps the quick glide of about 0.1 s. - Each change starts from where the voice is now. Whatever was still planned is dropped, so a change never queues behind an older one. Firefox lacks cancelAndHoldAtTime, there the value is held by hand. - A voice still waiting on its bytes starts a timed change with the sound, so the whole sweep is heard. Tests: - node-catalog: time is handed on, a time below 0 is a quick glide. - sound-library: semitones and decibels ramp in their own steps, a timed change on a waiting voice starts with the sound. - sound-library + node-catalog + soundfx: 419 tests, green. - e2e 34 on melektaus-atx: ALL PASSED, 31 checks. A 2 s ramp from depth 7 to -5 read speed 0.979, 0.926 and 0.778 half a second on. - Counter-check: folding a timed change on a waiting voice into its start values fails the new test. - The gate did not run. Change the sound FX parameters of a sound while it plays #315
Until now a value handed to a sound FX counted from the start of the voice only. An engine whose pitch follows the speed, or a loop that gets quieter, could not be built. Every play of Play sound now gives out the number of its voice, and a new node lets the knobs of that one voice glide to new values while it plays. - Play sound has a new output voice: the number of this one play, or 0 where nothing was played. Kept in a Number variable it reaches the voice from another event. Two plays of one sound are two voices. - New action node Set sound FX parameters (exec, voice, fx params). It reaches exactly the voice it is given, a detached one too. A voice that has ended, or voice 0, is not reached. - AudioSink.play returns the voice number and takes the plan and the values (FxVoice) instead of a finished chain. AudioSink.tune takes a voice number and new values. A name the voice's FX does not have is left out, one not given keeps its value. - SoundLibrary hands out the number at once, before the bytes are there, and never twice. A voice still waiting for its bytes starts with the values handed in meanwhile. - Every knob of a voice moves with setTargetAtTime (30 ms time constant). A knob whose value did not change is not sent again, so a tune every frame costs next to nothing. - A pitch on a playing voice glides by playbackRate. A new WSOLA copy in the middle of a sound is not worked out, so the voice gets shorter or longer while it is moved. On a loop that is not heard. - fxChainOf now gives a chain whose shape depends on the plan alone. A stage fed by a parameter stays at 0 dB, and a Mix fed by a parameter keeps both ways. A typed-in 0 or Mix at 0/1 is still left out by the compiler. - Every way of a voice has a source of its own, also at the same pitch, so each can glide on its own. The pitched copy is shared. - The tab keeps the numbers of what it plays, so moving a parameter field is heard at once. - Test hook __gm.sound.levels(file) reads the knobs of every voice of a file, oldest first, and stats() counts the voices tuned. Tests: - soundfx.test.ts: 29 tests (+2 for the node in a running world: the voice of the first of two plays of one sound, and a play that played nothing) - sound-library.test.ts: 15 tests (+3: glide, reach by number, pending voice) - node-catalog.test.ts: 370 tests (+2, Play sound checks its voice) - sounds + keep-on-scene-load: 31 tests, unchanged - Counter-test: a tune that reaches every voice of the same file makes the reach test fail. - e2e 34 (melektaus-atx): ALL PASSED - 30 checks (+1). In Chrome two looping voices of one sound start at depth 7. The one whose number sits in a variable glides to 0.7938 (2^(-4/12) = 0.7937), the other stays at 1. Both gains stay at 0.5012. - The gate ran before voices got a number (CHECK EXIT 0, 241 files, 3658 tests), not after. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Let a game hand values to the parameters of a sound FX #311
A sound FX played the same every time: its numbers were settings of the nodes. Now the Input declares parameters with a default, every number of Gain, Pitch and EQ is an input they can feed, and a Play sound hands in values for them. - Input declares number parameters in the inspector, each with a Default (DeclaredPort.default, SetPortDefaultCommand). They are outputs of the Input. Input and Output count as terminals now, one of each per graph. - Gain, Pitch and EQ take their numbers at inputs under the keys the settings had, so saved graphs sound as before without a migration. Each value is held to its range however it arrives. - The compiler gives an FxPlan with the parameters still open. fxChainOf fills them in when a voice starts. The player still only sees an FxChain. - New behavior node Sound FX parameters: names an FX and picks its parameters like a Variables node picks variables. Each picked one is a number input that starts at the FX's default. Its output has the new port type fxparams, which only fits Play sound's fx params. - Play sound warns when the parameters name another FX than the one it plays. Names the FX does not know are left out. - Renaming a parameter at the Input renames it in every Sound FX parameters node naming that FX, edges and values included. - The Sound FX tab has a number field per parameter in its header. Play uses those values, they are never written into the asset. - A value counts from the start of a voice. Changing a playing voice is #315, a Mix node is #316. Tests: - soundfx.test.ts 22 (+11): parameters in the plan, held values, a 0-by-default stage, EQ band, save with defaults, wrong port types, default command with undo, Sound FX parameters into Play sound, defaults of picked ones, node problems, mismatch, rename with undo - node-catalog 368 (+3): Play sound fx params, Sound FX parameters - e2e 34: ALL PASSED - 28 checks (+2: header field plays depth 5, a Sound FX parameters node gives the game's voice depth 7) - Gate on melektaus-atx: typecheck, lint, prettier clean, 240 test files, 3636 tests green - Counter-check: with fxChainOf ignoring the values and the rename not followed, 5 of the new tests fail. - Browser probe: header fields, inspector Default and the picked parameter looked at in two screenshots. Play a sound through a graph of gain, pitch and EQ effects #311
A sound could only be played as it was uploaded. A Sound FX asset is
a node graph like a shader: Input, effects, Output. Play sound has a
new input fx that sends the voice through it.
- New asset type soundfx ("Sound FX"), not placeable, with a graph
and its own tab. The heading in the asset panel is "Sound effects",
so it does not take the click meant for the + menu entry.
- Nodes in core/soundfx/nodes.ts, category sound, port type audio
that only fits audio: Input, Output, Gain (dB), Pitch (semitones),
EQ (80 Hz and 12 kHz shelves, peaks at 250 Hz, 1 kHz and 4 kHz).
- compileSoundFx walks back from the Output with the shared graph
emitter. An input takes one edge, so the result is one line: a
pitch and a list of gain and filter stages. A node without input
or a graph without Output reports a problem on the node.
- Pitch is the playback rate of the source. It applies to the whole
sound and also changes its length, the node description says so.
- The BehaviorSystem resolves fx and hands the line to the AudioSink.
An fx that is missing or does not compile plays the sound dry.
- SoundLibrary wires source, stages, volume, destination in that
order. stats().last now also names pitch and stage count.
- The tab header picks one of the project's sounds and plays it
through the graph as it stands. Stop there ends only its own voice.
Tests:
- soundfx.test.ts (new, 11), sound-library (9, +2 for the wiring),
node-catalog (+1 for fx), graph and asset-groups adjusted
- e2e 34: ALL PASSED - 26 checks (+5: + menu opens the tab, palette,
2 effects, tab Play and game Play through the FX at -12 st)
- Gate on melektaus-atx: typecheck, lint, prettier clean, 239 of 240
test files green. The red one was sound-library (its fake
AudioContext had no playbackRate), fixed afterwards, gate not
re-run in full.
- Counter-check: without the audio rule in portsCompatible the port
test fails.

Add a node that names the render layer of an object (#305)
The issue asked for Set render layer, Set sees and Render layer of. As with #211, a probe showed that writing already works. A Properties node of the object's type writes Render layer during a run, Inherit included, and one of type Camera writes Sees. The next picture follows both. As agreed, only Render layer of is built, and writing stays with Properties. - Render layer of is a data node with the input object and the outputs name and number. It answers the layer that holds, so an object without a choice of its own names its parent's. - NodeContext.renderLayerOf answers the number with the same rule the drawing uses (renderLayerAlong). The new field renderLayers on GraphLookup brings the names to the node. - hasRenderLayer in PropertySchema says which types are drawn. - Decided here: for an object that is not drawn (a camera, a behavior, a collider) the name is empty and the number -1, as Layer of does without a collider. Changing the render layer or Sees during a run had no test so far. Three unit tests now hold the proof from the issue. Tests: - Gate: 231 files, 3534 tests (3526 + 8), exit 0 - e2e 6: 149 checks passed, e2e 63: 13 checks passed (+1) - Unit: the coin moves into the overlay with Set and back with Inherit, a HUD container takes its sprite along, the main camera sees a second layer once its Sees is set, and Render layer of names the inherited layer, and none for a behavior - Node catalog: four cases for Render layer of - 63c3 moves a sprite onto UI in a Play run: the main camera no longer draws it, and the log reads "UI" and "1" - Three counter-probes fail 1, 1 and 2 tests: without inheriting in the node, without the check for a drawn type, and without inheriting in the drawing - "layer of" in the palette still finds Layer of first (6z-x) - The e2e sum is 1731 (1730 plus 1) Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Let Mouse position and Is hovered see through any camera (#304)
An overlay camera from #302 can stand elsewhere and zoom differently.
A HUD button only it shows lay somewhere else in the world than the
mouse of the main camera, so Is hovered never found it. Both nodes now
take a camera and see the mouse through that camera's picture.
- New input `camera` on Mouse position and Is hovered. Left open, both
read the main camera exactly as before.
- `pointerThrough` in core/properties/camera is the rule as a pure
function. It fits the camera's picture into the main one and centres
it, the same way overlayView draws it.
- The game view reports where the mouse lies on the main picture, as a
part of its width and height. The world turns that into a camera's
view, so a main camera on the move does not drag the mouse across
the HUD while the mouse stands still.
- `in view` is true only on the camera's own picture. A camera that is
not drawn (switched off, a second plain one, not a camera) never has
the mouse on it.
- On click and Mouse button stay with the main camera, as agreed in
the issue.

Tie two objects with a hinge, a spring, a rope or for good (#154)
Two bodies could not be connected: no door on a hinge, no lamp on
a rope, no wheel on an axle. This is the first step of the issue,
the four joints without a motor. The slider and the motors follow
in a second step under the same issue.
- Joint is a new asset type, placed as a child of the object it
holds, like a collider or a rigidbody. "Add joint…" in the
object menu makes one or places one the project has. An object
takes as many as it needs.
- Where the joint sits is the point it holds its object at. A
hinge and a fixed joint have that one point only. A spring and a
rope end at a connected anchor on the other object, counted in
that object's own units, or in the scene's without one.
- The rows follow the type: length, stiffness and damping for a
spring, length for a rope, an angle limit for a hinge. Length 0
takes the distance the two ends were placed at. The limit counts
from how the two were placed.
- The connected object is an object reference in the schema of the
type. Pasting, containers and removing treat it as they treat
every reference since #258.
- shownFor is a new schema option: a row is shown while an enum of
the same bag holds one of the named values.
- The object needs a rigidbody, its own or one further up. Without
one the joint holds nothing and the console says so once.
- A connected object without a rigidbody is a moving anchor: the
joint has a kinematic body of its own that follows it.
- A connected object destroyed while playing makes the joint let go
with a hint. Removed in the editor the reference empties, so the
joint holds on to the scene. The issue asked for "inactive" there.
- "Add joint" ties two objects while the game runs, from a joint
asset as the template. Destroy on the joint lets go, there is no
Break joint node. Destroy with keep children takes the joints
along with the object.
- The scene view draws a line from each joint to what it holds on
to and rings the held point. A selected spring or rope has a
round handle on its far end, and dragging it is one undo step.
- Joints hold in Play only. The editor run simulates nothing
(#148), and the inspector of a placed joint says so.
- Rapier counts a revolute joint's limits absolutely, not from the
start, so the placed angle is added. Measured with a probe.
- The + menu has 25 types now and no longer fits under its button
on a canvas 800 high. It scrolls there, and e2e 04 scrolls to
the last entry instead of expecting it in view.
Tests:
- Gate on melektaus-atx for this state: 218 files, 3390 tests
(3336 + 54), exit 0.
- e2e 1-16,24,39-46,51,52,57,58 on melektaus-atx: 831 checks, all
pass. Module 41 alone: 25 checks (21 + 4).
- 54 new unit tests: 40 in joints.test.ts (rope, spring, pendulum,
limit, fixed, the other end, the node, containers, paste), 6 for
the line the scene view draws, 4 catalog cases of the node. The
remaining 4 come from tests that make a case per asset type.
- Four new e2e checks in module 41: Add joint from the menu, the
rope to the hook with its line and handle, dragging the handle
with one undo, the bob hanging in Play next to one that falls.
- e2e 04, 40 and 46 count the new type in their lists.
- 21 of 22 unit counter-probes fail their tests. The other one is
equivalent: Rapier ignores removing a joint that left with its
body, the guard stays.
- Three browser counter-probes fail their checks (2, 1 and 2).
- One screenshot looked at: icon, line, handle and the rope rows.
- The e2e sum of 1691 is counted (1687 + 4, 1687 measured by CI

Tell a graph the frame a key went down or came up
Key is down says whether a key is held. To act once on a press, a graph had only the events On key down and On key up. A behavior that is called by another one and reads its input as data had to keep the state of the last frame in a variable of its own. - Key was pressed is true for the one frame in which the key goes down, the frame On key down fires in. Key was released is the same for the frame the key comes up. - Both sit next to Key is down in the palette and have the key as their only setting. - NodeContext gains wasKeyPressed and wasKeyReleased. The behavior context answers them from justPressed and justReleased of the input, through keyName, so a key saved as "A" meets the key "a". - No repeat. On key down may fire again while a key stays held, a held key is pressed once here. - When the window loses the keyboard, every held key counts as released in that frame, as On key up has it. - The engine prompt of the benchmark names the two nodes. Tests: - Gate on melektaus-atx right before this commit: 213 files, 3278 tests (3264 + 14), exit 0. - e2e 18,20,43 on melektaus-atx: 57 checks, all pass. - Ten unit tests in key-edges.test.ts on a real world, four cases in the node catalog. - Eight counter-probes all fail their tests. One did not at first (the case of the key saved on the node), a test was added. - No e2e check of its own, the sum stays 1676. The nodes were not looked at in the browser, neither in the palette nor with a real keyboard. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Add a node that names the collision layer of an object (#211)
The issue asked for three nodes: Set layer, Set collides with and Layer of. A probe showed that the finding behind the first two is outdated. The Properties node of type Collider already writes both settings while the game runs, and both collision systems see the change at once. As agreed, only Layer of is built, and writing stays with Properties. - Layer of is a data node with the input object and the outputs name and number. The name is what the project calls the layer. - NodeContext.collisionLayerOf answers the number, and the new field collisionLayers on GraphLookup brings the names to the node. - layerHolderOf in solids.ts says whose layer counts. An object stands for its first collider child, a collider or tilemap for itself. - Decided here: a collider that is switched off counts too, because its layer is set either way. - Decided here: without a collider the name is empty and the number is -1. - The node is a read, not a run, so it answers at the moment it is asked. Right after a Set in the same flow it names the new layer. - The output number was not asked for. It fits the layer port of Properties as it is. Changing the layer during a run had no test at all so far. Five tests now hold it in both systems. Tests: - Gate: 198 files, 2929 tests (2914 + 15), exit 0 - e2e 1-6: 285 checks passed (06: +2 for block 6z-x) - Five unit tests for the change during a run: a mover is blocked, passes and is blocked again, a ray with a layer filter follows the change, and a dynamic body falls through the ground in Play - Six unit tests for Layer of, three against each system, and four cases in the node catalog - 6z-x finds the node in the palette, checks its ports and logs "Ghost" and "1" for the owner's collider in a Play run - Two counter-probes for the change during a run fail 1 and 4 tests, and only new ones, so those places were unguarded before - Six counter-probes for Layer of fail 2 to 3 tests each. All eight ran on stein2, not in the container. - The browser counter-probe fails 6z-x with "Layer 1" and "1" - The e2e sum of 1619 is calculated (1617 measured in CI run 276, plus 2). Neither the full suite nor the smokes ran for this state. - Not looked at in the browser: that the layer port of Properties shows the same picker as the inspector. Clip the children of an object to a clip area (#260)
An inventory grid could not scroll, because nothing could cut a child off at an edge. A game also had no way to hear the mouse wheel. Both are needed for a scrolling list, a dialog text or a window with more content than room. - A new object type Clip area has width and height and turns, scales and mirrors with its parent. The size gizmo drags width and height. - Everything below a clip area, on every level, is drawn only inside its rectangle, in the Scene view as in the game. Nested areas cut to their intersection. The rule works on a convex polygon, so a turned area cuts right as well. - On click, Is hovered and On mouse wheel do not hit a cut-off part. The Scene view does not pick it either. - In the Scene view the area is a dashed frame that is grabbed only at its edge, so a click inside lands on the content. The eye under Shape hides the frame. In the game the area is invisible. - While an object below an area or one of its parents is selected, the Scene view shows the cut-off part at 30 % opacity and it can be grabbed there. The rule lives in core/properties/clip.ts. - The Properties node knows the type Clip area. - The new event node On mouse wheel fires by the rule of On click. Its delta counts in notches, positive is down, and a frame's turns arrive as one value. It also gives x and y. Limits: - Only sprites and texts show the faded rest. Tilemaps and particles are cut and can be grabbed when open, but are not shown faded. - Masks by texture shape are out, as noted in the issue. Tests: - ./check.sh: 2773 tests, CHECK EXIT 0. - Full e2e run (local): ALL PASSED, 1549 checks, measured. - tests/core/clip-areas.test.ts: 12 tests for the cut rule, scene and game, save and load, hits, the wheel with and without owner, the notch conversion and the open rule. - e2e 58, 5 checks with real mouse and wheel: the scene cuts (74 of 74 red inside, 0 outside), a click on the cut part picks nothing, the selected rest is faded and grabbable, the game cuts, one notch logs 1. - e2e 04 and 46 count the object types and the eye rows. They now include Clip area. - Counter-checks: 6 in unit tests and 3 in the browser, all fail as expected. The originals were restored and checked with cmp. Query objects in bulk and filter, count or test a list (#259)
The object queries only ever returned one object: Object by name, Child by name and Find all stop at the first hit. Getting every coin, every child or every item that passes a test needed a For each with its own bookkeeping. These nodes return the whole set as a list of Object, so For each and Find can use item straight away. - Objects by name returns every scene object with that name in scene order. - Children by name returns every match below object, nearer levels first, the same order as the singular node. - Children returns the direct children, with recursive all of them level by level. - Objects of asset returns every instance of an object asset or container by the same rule as Is asset, spawned ones included. - All four take a snapshot. Destroyed objects are never in it, disabled ones are, as with the singular nodes. - Find has a Mode setting: First, All, Any and Count. First is the default and hides the row, so existing graphs look the same. - Match follows the mode of its paired Find: done with items and indices, done with any, or done with count. An unpaired Match shows First, since the pairing only comes from the wiring. - First and Any stop at the first hit, All and Count walk the list. - Changing the mode drops edges at outputs the Match no longer has, in one undo step. SetNodeParamCommand now cleans the whole graph, but only edges that were valid before the change. - The palette entry "filter" adds a Find set to All with its Match. Found on the way: - After adding the filter entry, "find" + Enter picked Filter. The entry has node type Find, counted as an exact hit, and the tie went to the alphabet. The search now ranks by the entry id. e2e 6z-v caught it. Tests: - ./check.sh: 188 files, 2746 tests, CHECK EXIT 0. - find-modes.test.ts with 11 tests, 11 catalog cases for the four nodes, the asset input guard now expects 3. - e2e 6z-vii with 3 checks: filter from the palette, Count picked in the inspector drops the items edge, a run logs 2, 2, 2, 3, 4, "0, 2". - GM_STEPS=1-6: all passed, 278 checks. - Counter-checks fail as expected: every mode stopping early (2), Match ignoring the mode (6), cleanup on the own node only (1), no recursion (2), no inOrder (2), old ranking (1). In the browser a Match ignoring the mode fails both editor checks. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Pick an object of the same scene for an Object variable (#258)
An Object variable could only be set by a graph while the game runs.
A placed object always showed "(null)", although the other objects of
its scene are there to choose from and the runtime can already find
any object by its id. Now the placed object stores a reference to one
of them, and the running game turns it into the real object.
- Stored as {"$object": "<id>"}. The empty placeholder stays as it
was, so old projects load unchanged and empty still means "(null)".
- The row of an Object variable on a placed object is a dropdown with
None and every object of the scene, indented like the Hierarchy.
The same goes for Object fields in structs and Object items in
lists, also in the Variables and List tabs.
- The behavior asset keeps "(null)". An asset has no scene, so "Apply
to asset" is gone from Object rows.
- The runtime resolves the reference when the Variables or Properties
node reads it. A destroyed target reads as null, a missing one shows
"(missing)" in the row.
- Inside a container only objects of the same container are offered.
The reference keeps the template id, so every placement finds its
own copy.
- Deleting the target clears the reference in the same undo step.
Paste points references inside the pasted group at the copies and
leaves outside references alone. Create container and Unpack carry
references along with the new ids.
- A value a graph writes while running stays in the run. The scene
keeps the picked object, also in "Run in editor".
Found on the way:
- Setting an override coerced every object slot to empty, in plain
values, struct fields and list items. The shared objectPlace() now
keeps the reference.
Not done:
- No eyedropper to pick in the scene, the dropdown is enough for now.
- Deleting a template object in the container editor does not clean up
references in other scenes. They read as null there.
Tests:
- ./check.sh: 187 files, 2724 tests, CHECK EXIT 0
- e2e 1-9, 51, 57: ALL PASSED, 389 checks
- e2e 1, 57 on the final bundle: ALL PASSED, 17 checks

Let Destroy keep the children and hand them back as a list
Destroying a container used to take everything below it along. Now Destroy can remove just the object itself and pass its direct children on, so a behavior can keep working with what was inside. - New input keep children (bool, default off). When on, only the object goes. Its direct children move up to the object's parent, or to the top level if there is none. Grandchildren stay where they are. - New output children (object list) with the direct children that were kept. It is empty when keep children is off. - The children keep their place on screen. carriedTransform folds the destroyed object's position, rotation and scale into their own, the same as reparenting in the editor. - Behaviors and the rigidbody of the object are always destroyed with it and are not in the list. Moved up they would steer or simulate the parent. - World remembers which children it reparented, and syncToModel writes their new parent into the scene. A reload of the model keeps it. - Limit, read from the code only: in the editor run the contents of a placed container are not baked. Moved children there last for the run only. Tests: - ./check.sh: 170 files, 2478 tests, CHECK EXIT 0 - e2e 34 (the module with a Destroy node): ALL PASSED, 21 checks - world-sync: world matrix of child and grandchild unchanged under a rotated and scaled parent, parent survives syncFromModel, top level case, already destroyed object gives [] - destroy-keep-children: real graph Destroy(Owner) -> Log(children) logs Lid, Label without the grandchild Nail - 3 counter-probes, all caught: no world transform (1 test fails), no parent in the scene (1), behaviors and rigidbody moved up (2) Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Let a variable hold an object across behavior runs
A spawned object was only reachable in the run that spawned it. The Spawn output could not go into a variable because "object" was a port-only kind, so the next run had no way back to the instance. - "Object" is now a variable kind. The reference lives for the run only. The file stores the declaration and an empty value. - The live reference sits in slots beside the variable bag (graph/objectSlots.ts), not in it. The bag is the behavior's props, and syncToModel would have written an object into the scene. - A destroyed object, or one from a restarted or left scene, reads as nothing. A dead reference is dropped from its slot. - Keep (#229) hands the slots of kept variables on to the next call of a sub-behavior. - Properties of kind Behavior reads and writes another behavior's object variable through the same slots. - The inspector shows "(null)" for it and offers no input. - A persistent Variables asset with an object variable shows a warning under "Persistent". Saved values never keep the object, every run starts it at (null). Objects inside lists and struct fields are left out on purpose. Emptiness is checked with Equals against an empty b. A node "Is valid" does not exist yet. The test helper graphEditor().variables() now also reads the kinds of a Variables asset a node points to. Tests: - ./check.sh: 169 files, 2463 tests, CHECK EXIT 0 - e2e 6 + 23: ALL PASSED, 146 checks (new 23k, 2 checks) - e2e 32: ALL PASSED, 18 checks (new 32f-ii) - 10 unit tests in tests/core/object-variable.test.ts, one of them runs a persistent asset over two runs - 5 counter-probes (value in bag, isAlive always true, no Keep hand-over, Properties without slots, object in saved values) each fail their test - e2e check total 1406, computed only Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Let Spawn take an asset over an edge and find a child by name (#237)
An asset could only be picked as a setting on the Spawn node. It could not be wired in, held in a variable or put into a list. Finding an object below the own one needed a scene-wide search by name. - "Asset" is now a kind like Animation or Sound: port, variable, list item and a new "Asset" literal node, with its own cube icon. - Spawn and Is asset have an `asset` input. It uses the key of the old setting, so a saved asset reads as the value of the input and older projects keep spawning without a migration. - New node "Child by name" searches below an object level by level. A child wins over a grandchild of the same name. Nothing found or no object gives null. Tests: - ./check.sh: 168 files, 2453 tests, CHECK EXIT 0. - 9 new unit tests in tests/core/asset-kind.test.ts, catalog cases for Spawn, Is asset, Child by name and the literal. - e2e 6z-ii (2 checks): node rows and a real drag of the literal onto `asset`. e2e 6: 119 checks passed. Spawn checks in 3 and 9 passed. - Counter-checks: depth-first search fails 1, Spawn reading only the old setting fails 3, runtime ignoring the parent fails 1. Let behaviors read and set tilemap cells while the game runs (#135)
A behavior could move sprites around but had no way to look at or
change the tilemap it was standing on. Doors, breakable blocks and
"is there ground ahead?" checks all need that.
- New nodes Tile at, Set tile, World to cell and Cell to world. The
conversion honours position, rotation, scale and mirroring of the
placed map. A small Tile literal node lets a graph compare what it
read against a fixed tile.
- The layer is picked by name from all tilemap layers in the project
through a new field kind. "First layer" takes the map's first one.
Because layer is an input, a text can also be wired in.
- Each placement keeps only its edited cells in liveTilemap.ts,
layered over the asset's cells. A second placement of the same map
stays untouched, and the asset itself is never written.
- A read sees a Set tile from earlier in the same flow. Drawing picks
up the edit at once and neighbouring autotile edges adapt.
- Solids see the edits straight away, so a Move in the same frame
already hits the new cell. Rapier rebuilds its shapes on the next
step.
- After Stop the map is back to what was painted. The editor run shows
the edit in the scene view while it lasts and does not touch the
project.
- An unwired tilemap input means no map, like Get position. Cells
outside the grid are refused and done reports false.
Tests:
- ./check.sh: 155 files, 2271 tests, CHECK EXIT 0 (before 2245).
- tests/core/tile-access.test.ts (14), one physics test for a floor
set at runtime, catalog entries for the five nodes.
- e2e 39,40: all passed, 86 checks (before 81), five new in 40s.
- Counter-checks: collision ignoring edits fails 3 unit tests, the
solids cache missing same-tick edits fails only the "at once" test,
drawing ignoring edits fails the 2 drawing checks, the editor run
not reporting a new tile fails only its check.
- 40s uses a still tile. The animated fixture tile redraws every frame
and hid the last counter-check at first.

Variables assets can keep their values from one run to the next (#166)
A game needs a high score or an unlocked level to survive the end of
a run. As agreed in the issue there are no save or load nodes. A
Variables asset gets a switch instead, and the existing Variables
nodes read and write the values as before.
- A "Persistent" checkbox in the Variables inspector. Toggling it is
one undo step, and absent means not persistent.
- The behavior system loads the saved values at start and writes them
after every frame that changed one, so a closed tab loses nothing.
- Values live in localStorage per project, not in the project file.
Another browser or person starts fresh.
- Play and "Run in editor" save apart, so trying a behavior in the
editor leaves the Play save alone.
- Saved values are read through the current declaration. A removed
variable drops out, a new one starts from its default, and a changed
kind is converted.
- "Clear saved values" in the inspector clears this asset in both
areas. The main menu gets "Clear saved data" for the whole project.
Clearing takes effect from the next run on.
Decisions:
- The switch covers the whole asset, not single variables. Mixing
both means two assets.
- A changed default in the inspector shows only after the save is
cleared. That is what persistent means.
Findings:
- The first e2e run died at "debug hook present" right after a Vulkan
error from Chrome. The second run passed, so it was a GPU flake at
start-up.

- GM_STEPS=32,46 fresh: ALL PASSED, 24 checks. Six new checks in
module 32 go through the UI. Module 46 knows the new menu entry.

A game can pause itself and set its own time scale (#167)
Until now only the editor toolbar could pause a running game. A pause menu inside the game had no way to stop the world while its own graph kept running, and there was no slow motion. - Five new nodes: Pause game, Resume game, Is game paused, Set time scale and Time scale. Pause and resume take effect on the next frame. - A game pause stops world time, physics, animations, particles and shader time. Only behaviors with the new "Run while paused" switch keep running. - Set time scale 0 freezes the world but graphs keep running, as agreed in the issue. - Play and Stop reset the time scale to 1, Load scene keeps it. The pause belongs to the scene, so Load scene and Restart unpause. - The toolbar pause stays separate and also freezes the menu. When the game pauses itself the status line reads "The game paused itself". - While paused, collision events are not reported, sounds keep playing, and the editor run ignores both nodes with a log line. Findings: - The first status line was longer than any before and got cut with an ellipsis. It is shorter now. - The e2e harness did not know the key "p". It does now. Tests: - ./check.sh: 133 files, 1968 tests, exit 0 (before 132 / 1952) - npm run build: exit 0 - GM_STEPS=18 fresh: ALL PASSED, 33 checks (before 26) - 16 new unit tests: 8 catalog cases, game-pause.test.ts, editor run - 7 new e2e checks in block 18i, driven by real keys in the game - Six counter-checks all bite: behavior filter, collision lock, world time, editor run, clock reset and the game clock in the browser - Check total 1217 in README is computed (1210 + 7), CI measures it Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

The new node "Raycast all" answers with every collider along the ray instead of only the nearest one: it carries the same inputs and settings as Raycast (Ignore owner, Hit triggers, Layers from #158) plus "max hits" where 0 means all, and it hands back parallel lists sorted by distance - objects, colliders, points x/y, normals x/y, distances - next to count, so index i of every list speaks about the same hit; a collider counts once no matter how many convex parts its shape is built from, while a tilemap counts per cell it is hit in, and the filter sits in Solids.raycastAll like the one of #158, the one path the editor run and Play both take, so all 12 new unit tests run through describe.each against both systems; the node needed the value system to learn something it could not do - a graph list carried numbers, text, booleans and bundles but no object handles, asList turned an object into its name, so objects/colliders would have been lists of names, which loses the object when two carry the same name, and collider children usually do; Value now knows a travelling list that may hold handles and "Item at" gives such an item out as an object, ready for Destroy, Apply force or Name of, while the single door into a stored file - writeTyped/asTypeOf - runs the list through the new storedList() so every object becomes its name again and nothing living reaches a project file, which is its own unit test over JSON.stringify; three list nodes follow the handles: "Index of" compares objects by identity because a name is not the object of that name, "Set item" and "Fill" write an object as an object, and "Join text" prints the names instead of the innards; this decision was mine to make because the question ran into the MCP timeout - the alternative was a list of names plus "Object by name", which is the smaller change but lossy; 4 new e2e checks in the new block 43e (shield and floor in one go reading 2 and "145, 280", the second object answering to its name, which only a real object in a list can do, "max hits" 1 stopping at the nearest, and the node showing the row) and 18 new unit tests, 12 in raycast.test.ts, 4 on the value system and 2 in the node catalog; two counter-checks hold: not counting tilemap cells one by one drops 2 unit tests, and answering with the nearest hit only drops module 43 with 2 FAILs; one finding on the way - the node read "maxHits" while every other input carries a spoken label, because int() took the key as its label, so it has a third parameter now, and the e2e check caught that, no unit test did (#157)

One-way platforms, raycast and collision stay with contact data: a collider can be one-way with a side it blocks from (turning with its object, drawn thick in the scene view) and a tile can be one-way from above, one-way cells never merge with solid tiles, a contact blocks only when its normal is within 45 degrees of the blocking side, the new node Ignore one-way lets an object drop through for a while, and it all holds for Move and for dynamic bodies in Rapier, where the decision is made before each step because the hook may not touch the engine (#155); the new Raycast node answers hit, object, collider, point, normal and distance in our own f64 geometry, the same in editor run and play, and the editor run draws each ray for 0.25 s (#153); On collision stay gains an interval with its own clock per pair, and stay and enter gain the contact point next to normal and impulse (#149); fixes that every Rapier collider of a tilemap had the shape of its last cell

Move with collision reacts along the contact normal: it travels to the surface, stays flush and slides the rest of the move along it with Coulomb friction (the mean of both colliders, a tile counts as 0.5), a circle now rolls over an edge instead of catching on it, pushed dynamic bodies move off along the normal, Move gains the outputs hit, normal x and normal y, an object without its own collider moves freely, and editor run and play share the same path through Solids; contact point and normal come from our own f64 geometry (contactBetween), because Rapier's castShape lands 3e-6 px inside the wall in f32 (#150)

Physics stage 1a runs on Rapier: a new Rigidbody child object (body type, mass, gravity scale, damping, fixed rotation, CCD) makes its parent fall, bounce and come to rest in play, colliders gain friction, bounciness and density, the scene gains gravity (0, 980), the new PhysicsSystem steps at a fixed 60 Hz with interpolation in world coordinates and treats a tilemap as static ground, On collision enter gains normal and impulse, play waits for Rapier and does not start without it, and the editor run keeps the old CollisionSystem; the existing collision tests run against both systems unchanged (#146)

A game that is more than one scene needs a way from one to the next, so the graph can load one (#39)
game-maker / suite (push) Failing after 11m6s
Load scene sets a flag on the World like Stop and Restart do; the swap happens after the tick, and the last wish of a tick wins. Exactly one thing crosses over: the SharedState, so global variables and global machines keep what they know while everything local is built anew. Loading the scene that is already running rebuilds it, which is what "reset the level" means when the score must survive. A run starts either from the start scene (a new project field, set from the asset panel and marked with an arrow in the list) or from whatever scene is open. The toggle next to Play says which question is asked and remembers the answer in localStorage: it is a way of working, not part of the game. Sounds no longer end because a scene ends. A voice belongs to the behavior that started it and stops right after On destroy, so the scene swap is no longer a special case at all. For the enemy that plays its explosion and destroys itself in the same breath there is now a detached input on Play sound. The scene selector stays usable while a run plays, because a double click in the asset panel already did the same thing unguarded. It moves what the editor looks at, not what the run plays. |

A game that stays silent is only half a game, so a sound is an asset like any other (#45)
game-maker / suite (push) Successful in 12m1s
Sounds follow the road fonts already paved: the file goes to the server content-addressed under its sha256, the project keeps a named asset that points at it, and nothing is ever re-encoded. The format is read from the file's own signature, not from what the browser claims - the same .m4a arrives as audio/mp4, audio/x-m4a or as nothing at all. Playing is two nodes. "Play sound" takes the asset and may raise or lower its volume; every call is its own voice, so two jumps in a row are two jumps heard. Its loop input is a choice of three - from the asset, on, off - because a checkbox has to spend one of its two positions on "not set" and would lose a case: an asset that loops could then never be played once. Below the graph core stays browser-free: NodeContext hands out an asset id, BehaviorSystem resolves it against the project and folds the asset's own volume and loop into the call, and only viewport/SoundLibrary knows about Web Audio. A run without a sink plays nothing instead of throwing. The CI browser is muted, so the ear is no witness: the debug hook counts started and stopped voices, and step 34 reads that counter. |

A state change is something the graph can react to, so the machine announces it (#53, #54, #55, #57)
game-maker / suite (push) Successful in 10m58s
Four issues that all reach for the same line: how the current state is read and written. Splitting them into four commits would mean four states of the tree that do not compile, so they arrive together. #55 start state — the machine asset carries an optional `start` holding a State node's id. Right-click a state to set or remove it, a ring in the node's title says which one it is. A dead id (the state was deleted) reads as "no start", so nothing has to clean up after a deletion. #53 entered/exited — `On state entered` and `On state exited`, one exec output per state. Every change now goes through a single `setState` that reports it; BehaviorSystem delivers it after the exec flow that caused it, `exited` of the old before `entered` of the new, round after round until the queue is empty, with a cap that stops a ping-pong graph with an endless-loop error. A local machine tells the instance that switched, a global one tells every instance holding a matching event node. The start state fires `entered` too: per instance for a local machine, once per run for a global one. #57 reading — `Current state` with `name` for showing and `id` for comparing, `Is in state` with one boolean per state. Neither has a `run`, so `read` learned `def` and `lookup`, and the catalog test knows this third kind of node. #54 seeing it — during a run the state machine tab marks every state some instance is holding faintly, and the one held by the selected scene object's instance strongly. A shared value belongs to no behavior, so it becomes an asset of its own (#91)
game-maker / suite (push) Failing after 8m59s
This reverses the design of the previous commit. `PropertyDef.scope` is gone without replacement: a behavior variable is an object property again, without exception, and sharing is something you point at rather than something you declare twice. A **Variables asset** is declarations and nothing else -- no graph, no position, never placed, no tab of its own (`TAB_OF_ASSET` is already `Partial<>`, so that costs no line). A `Variables` node names one through its new `variablesAsset` setting, empty meaning the behavior's own variables as before, and then reads and writes one value per key for the whole run. Its property list follows the chosen source, which was the actual request: a value another graph declared is now offerable, where before every participant had to declare the name itself. That deletes more than it adds (-72 lines net): `globalConflicts` and its run-stopping kind clash, `SetVariableScopeCommand`, the scope picker, both object-inspector filters and the "shared by the whole run" note on the placed object. A typo is no longer a silent second variable -- naming an asset is picking from a list. And two Variables assets may carry the same key without meeting, because the asset is the key, not the name. The one shape it copies is the one that already existed: `Set state` picks its machine the same way. Lifetime is unchanged. The bag is built at `BehaviorSystem.start()` from the declarations and never written back, so playing in the editor cannot change the project -- which is the whole reason a counter must not be an object property (`World.syncToModel` would `commit()` it, and the coin counter would stand at 7 for good). Full symmetry across that gap, without mirroring anything. Two named wires: `Inspector.liveVariables` shows the values as they stand while a run is on and falls back to the declarations when it ends, and `adoptDeclarations()` takes a key into the run *only where the document changed it since the last sync*. Without that condition any unrelated project edit would snap a running counter back to its starting value; a counter-test bends exactly that and falls over. Nothing was ever cached, incidentally: `GraphInterpreter` only pulse-caches nodes without a `read`, and the variable node has one. The wire was missing. The state machine `Scope` row is now an ordinary `enum` row through `createFieldRow`. It was hand-built from an `HStack` with a ghost dropdown and began ~34px left of every value above it; the explanations beside `Local` and `Global` are gone from the menu, the sentence below the row keeps saying it. Machine scope is otherwise untouched -- `StateMachineAsset.scope`, `SetMachineScopeCommand`, `stateBag()` and its persistence all stand, so #59 stays closed as built and `Scope` as a type now carries machines alone. Six counter-proofs, each biting at its own guard. One of them did not bite at first: the suggestion list was computed twice, in `nodeSection` and `portSection`, so only the browser test covered the request itself. It is one named function now, `variableChoices`, with a unit test of its own. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

A shared value belongs to the run, so a declaration carries its scope (#91)
A variable or a state machine declared `global` keeps one value for the whole run instead of one per behavior instance. The scope sits on the declaration -- `PropertyDef.scope` and `StateMachineAsset.scope`, both optional, absence meaning `local` -- and `local` is never written, so every project made before this saves back unchanged. **The name is the key.** Two behaviors declaring a global `score` mean one variable; a behavior declaring `score` locally keeps its own. Kinds that disagree about one global name stop the run before it starts, with the two behaviors named; starting values that disagree are a warning on the behavior that declares it, and the first declaration wins (`globalConflicts`). The runtime needs no redirection layer. A global variable falls out of `schemaForObject`, so it never reaches `entity.props` -- and then the whole rule is "whoever declares the name takes their own value" (`graph/sharedState.ts`). The `Variables` node is untouched and stays transparent: switching a variable to global breaks no existing graph, because `GraphInterpreter.readAll` builds a fresh object per read anyway and only asks `port.key in all`. That same cut answers the inspector. A shared value has no owner, so the placed object shows no row for it and can hold no override -- `SetVariableScopeCommand` takes the deviations that were there and undo gives them back. Both places say it in words rather than leaving a glyph to be guessed: the declaration explains the mark below the list, and the placed object names the variable it no longer holds instead of claiming the behavior declares none -- which is what it said before, untruthfully. Screenshots of the e2e run turned that up; no check had been looking at it. `SharedState` hangs off `NodeContext`, is built in `BehaviorSystem.start()` from the *declarations* rather than from any instance (a global variable exists before its behavior is placed), and is thrown away with the run: nothing is written back, not even in the editor run. `GraphInterpreter.call` passes it on through `...ctx` while nested calls keep getting fresh local variables, which is why `program.defaults` is stripped of global keys. Two traps this hit. `defSignature`/`assetSignature` have to carry the scope or the inspector does not rebuild after the switch -- and a state machine has no rows at all, so its scope is appended to the signature by hand. And the object inspector does not go through `schemaForObject` for behaviors, it reads `asset.variables` directly; filtering in one place was not enough, and no unit test covered that path. The e2e caught it (`global: true` where false belonged), and the rule now lives in one named function, `objectRows`. Scopes `object` and `scene` are deliberately not built. The object case already has a route (`Object by name` -> `Properties`), and a run knows exactly one scene, so `scene` would be indistinguishable from `global` until #39 exists. Closes #59: a machine's scope is a word on the machine asset, not a setting per `Set state` node, so the same machine cannot live in two places at once. A transition carries a name, so a state needs no visible port (#52)
game-maker / suite (push) Successful in 10m22s
A state keeps its `in`/`out` exec pins in the model and the editor never draws
them. That is the whole trick: connecting, undo, deleting a state and saving all
keep working untouched, because `normalizeGraph` filters nodes and never edges,
and no edge ever checks its port key against a NodeDef. Only two places change --
`NodeView.redraw` stops drawing the row, and `portAt` refuses to hand one out, so
an invisible pin cannot be grabbed either.
Transitions are drawn by right-clicking a state, `Make transition`, then clicking
the target. The armed mode takes the same shape as a live drag, so the existing
preview draws it with no second code path, and it dies with Escape, a click on
empty canvas or a switch to another asset.
Removing the pins removed the only handle a transition had: edges have no
hit-test anywhere, and the pin right-click was the sole route to Disconnect.
The inspector's TRANSITIONS OUT / TRANSITIONS IN lists are therefore not a
convenience, they are the delete path.
`GraphEdge` gained an optional `label`, which `normalizeGraph` has to pass
through explicitly or a saved name is dropped on load. `State transition`
replaces `Next state`: it takes the machine on an input port and the name from a
picker, and resolves against the *current* state. Names are deliberately not
unique across a machine -- two states may both have an `alarm` -- so a node named
`alarm` moves whichever state has one, and an empty name follows the single
unnamed edge.
The geometry moved to a Pixi-free `transitions.ts`: a gap to the box border, and
a fan that puts a pair of opposite edges beside each other instead of on top of
each other. Keeping it as plain maths is what let a screenshot bug become a unit
test -- an earlier pin-to-pin line ran under the target node and took its
arrowhead with it, because `nodeLayer` sits above `edgeLayer`.
One limit stands and is not fixed here: `ConnectCommand` rejects a second edge
between the same two states ("Already connected"), because every transition
hangs off the same two ports. With names, `A --alarm--> B` beside
`A --seen--> B` is a sensible pair, so this is worth its own issue.

Transform: scale, rotation and mirror as properties, world transform as a matrix chain, oriented colliders (#76)
game-maker / suite (push) Successful in 9m5s
Four new rows on sprite, text, collider and container (block TRANSFORM): scale, rotation in degrees clockwise, mirrorX, mirrorY. As properties they get override/reset/apply, loading of old projects, write-back after play and the Properties node for free; camera and behavior have none. The hierarchy composes T*R*S per level (composeAlongChain replaces sumAlongChain), so children rotate and scale with their parent. Reparenting and grouping keep the look (carriedTransform). Drawing goes through placeNode, the gizmo is a polygon, cull and objectRect use the AABB, drags are computed in the parent's system. Colliders are oriented boxes: SAT for box/box, box-circle in the box frame; exitDistance replaces axisSeparation/axisCorrection, moveAndSlide moves along the object's own axes. State machines: asset, tab, State branch and Set state nodes (#51)
A state machine is an asset whose graph holds one `State` node per state (no ports, name as title), edited in a new "State machine" tab that reuses the graph canvas: right-click places "State n", snap toggle shared with the Behavior tab via SnapToggle. `statemachine` is a value kind like texture (port, literal node, variable, struct field, tagged list item). Behaviors use it through `State branch` (one exec output per state) and `Set state` (one exec input per state; the interpreter now hands `run` the entry port). States live per behavior instance in NodeContext.states, with no initial state. Ports derive from the inline picker or a wired `State machine` literal; BehaviorLookup became GraphLookup with behavior(id) and machine(id). The Graph tab is labelled "Behavior" (key unchanged). Unit tests (state-machine, kinds, catalog, ports), e2e step 26 and README added. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Play sprite animations from an animation asset worn through texture
An animation asset is a list of pictures (whole textures or frames) with frames per second and Loop/Once/Ping-pong playback. A sprite wears it through its texture property, so the picker, instance overrides and the Properties node work unchanged; there is no dedicated play node. A different animation starts from its first frame, the same one set again runs on, so a graph may choose Run or Idle every frame. The clock lives on the entity, not in props, which the world writes back as overrides. The AnimationSystem ticks before behaviors, and On animation finished fires once when a Once animation reaches its end. The Animation tab plays a preview above a frame strip: reorder by dragging, Delete, duplicate, + Frames, pause/resume, and wheel zoom about the pointer with pan and Fit. Scene and Container tabs show the first frame; edit mode has no clock. Right-clicking a texture creates an animation from its frames. Button now measures its label with the bold font it draws in, which cut the Animation tab and red dialog buttons short. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Replace the property nodes with one Properties node
Get/Set property, Get/Set properties, Set enabled and Set text are gone. A single Properties node takes a fixed "object" input; every chosen property is an output that reads the current value, and one switched to Set is also an input written when the flow arrives. Exec pins only exist while at least one entry writes. The node carries a type (Sprite, Text, Collider, Camera, Container, Behavior, Any) that decides what "+ Property" offers: the fields of that type, the variables of the chosen behavior, or for Any a kind to pick and a name to type. Each port takes the default and field of its type, so a Camera width starts at 640. Switching the type keeps the ports and marks those the new type lacks. At runtime the type is only an editor aid; the node writes to whatever object it gets. Old project files are converted on load. The type is inferred from the keys: the first object type that has them all, else the one behavior that declares them all, else Any. enabled belongs to every object, so a converted Set enabled lands on Any. The jump-run and tetris seeders use Properties throughout; draw-piece switches its cell on in the same node that sets the colour. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

A single node now lists any number of variables. Every entry is an output that reads the current value whenever it is pulled; an entry switched to Set is also an input and is written when the flow arrives. Exec pins only exist while at least one entry writes, and all inputs are read before any write, so one node can swap two variables. Get/Set variable, Get/Set variables and Variable are gone. Let a Sequence grow an output as you connect the last one
The Outputs setting is gone. A Sequence now keeps one free output below the last connected one: nothing plugged in is one output, connecting the spare grows a new one, unplugging the bottom edge shrinks it back. It counts the last *connected* port rather than the number of edges, so unplugging a middle one leaves a gap instead of silently dropping an edge. Removing the setting also removes a bug it caused. Typing in the Outputs field did nothing and the arrow keys did nothing, while dragging the value worked: onInput fires per keystroke, the preview writes into node.params, that emits 'project', and Inspector.refreshValues() sees the node's signature change -- the port list is part of it -- so it rebuilds and destroys the row being typed in. A drag survives because it keeps receiving globalpointermove on the old widget. refreshValues() has no focus guard where refreshLive() does; the trap is still there for the next typed field that changes a node's shape. Ports that depend on the edges around a node mean derivePorts needs the graph, not just the params, so resolveDef and portSignature take it too. And a node whose ports are derived cannot know how many it has from its type, so run is handed the definition resolved for it. |

PropertyValue was number | string | boolean | list. A struct joins it, which costs two things the typechecker found rather than I did. An object on a data edge used to mean a live entity, so asEntity would have taken a struct for one and asString would have read .name off it. EntityHandle now carries a symbol brand – a symbol so no field name can impersonate it, and it never serializes, which suits a thing that exists only while the game runs. It is built in exactly one place. String(value) would have written a struct as [object Object] at 39 call sites. They go through textOf(), which is identical for primitives. normalizeGraph dropped everything but primitives from node params, so the List node lost its value on every save ([3,1,4] round-tripped to undefined). Variables were spared: they have a schema, params have none. |

Resolve container content from the template instead of copying it
A scene now stores only the container object; its content is resolved from the template on every read, with deviations kept as sparse instanceEdits on the container object. This drops the propagation bookkeeping entirely -- templateSync.ts is gone and the three structural gaps (add, remove, reparent) cannot diverge any more. Values stay editable on an instance, structure does not; Unpack writes the content into the scene, keeping ids. Play mode bakes containers into the throwaway copy before entities are built. No migration: formatVersion is 2 and the seeders write the new format. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |
