Lock the server down before the editor goes public (#427)
The editor is about to be opened to strangers: a post on Reddit and a guest access (#428). nginx served the whole workspace and ran every PHP file in it, the API let anybody guess passwords as fast as they liked, and one account could fill the disk. - nginx (shared web stack, outside this repo, backup in /root/config-backup-20261015/) hands out only the two pages, dist/, public/brand/, the uploads by kind and ending, and api/index.php. Everything else under /feuerwerk/ is a 404. - PHP behind it has display_errors off and no X-Powered-By. Plain HTTP forwards to HTTPS, the API refuses it. - Headers: a Content-Security-Policy without inline code or eval, nosniff, frame-ancestors, HSTS, Referrer-, Permissions-, COOP, CORP. - vite.config.ts writes the same policy into the built pages, so CI runs the whole suite under it. Pixi gets by without eval through pixi.js/unsafe-eval. The page CSS left its inline style for a file. - The harness fails a module for anything the policy refuses, from Chrome's log and from the page's securitypolicyviolation event. - LoginThrottle: five wrong passwords from one address within 15 minutes, and it gets 429 until 15 minutes after the last of them. The address is the last X-Forwarded-For entry, the Brandmauer's own. - Quota: 1 GB per account for uploads, projects and snapshots. Only a write that grows the account is refused (413). Admins have no limit. - A write whose Sec-Fetch-Site says another site is refused (403). - The session cookie carries Secure, nginx passes HTTPS on. - showFailure puts the message in as text, not as HTML. - Every PHP script outside api/ stops unless it runs on the command line. - The video worker sees the checkout read-only and can only write data/videos. No capabilities, 2 GB and 256 processes at most. - tests/php/rights.test.php runs the API under php -S on a scratch directory and asks every route as signed out, owner, stranger and admin. A route named in api/index.php but missing in the matrix fails it. limits.test.php covers the brake and the quota. Findings: - tmp/ was readable from outside, with 79 copies of project files. Closed on 15.10. at 20:02 with chmod 750. The log back to 11.10. shows only our own requests. - Port 8080 is bound on 0.0.0.0, so the LAN could reach nginx past the Brandmauer. Left as it is: the web stack is not this project's. - npm audit finds nothing in what is shipped. Dev tools (vitest, brace-expansion, source-map-js) have advisories, not touched here. Tests: check 313 files / 4843 tests. PHP limits 21, rights 60, accounts 56, snapshots 15, releases 20, files 46 (videos 50/51, no ffmpeg in the web container). e2e on stein2, atx was off: 34+38+41 197/198, the one red check (a click in 41) passes with 41 alone, 27/27. 67 misses frames at 1080p on stein2 with and without this. Path list from outside: 10 served, 26 refused. ZAP baseline against the live site: nothing High or Medium under /feuerwerk/. Counter-checks: rights.test.php without the cross-site guard, the quota, the brake, the admin check of users, or with an undocumented route fails each time. A policy without wasm-unsafe-eval fails e2e 41 with the harness's own CSP line. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Move repo, CI and the video worker over to the name Feuerwerk (#422)
Stage 3 of the rename. The repo now lives at meleki/feuerwerk, the runners carry feuerwerk labels and the WSL distro on melektaus-atx is called feuerwerk-ci. The code has to follow, or CI finds no runner and the suite no longer picks the GPU path. - ci.yml: workflow name feuerwerk, jobs on feuerwerk-ci (gate, stein2) and feuerwerk-wsl (suite, melektaus-atx). - GAME_MAKER_* variables are now FEUERWERK_*. This includes FEUERWERK_BROWSER=wsl, which the runner config on melektaus-atx sets. - The video worker runs as container feuerwerk-video with the image feuerwerk-video and works on /srv/feuerwerk. - e2e.sh starts the unit feuerwerk-e2e, the CI image keeps its paths under the new name. - README and repo links point to git.nockal.com/meleki/feuerwerk. The old URLs still redirect with 301. Both runners keep their old labels until the first CI run with this ci.yml is through. Then they go, together with the image tag game-maker-ci:latest and GAME_MAKER_BROWSER in the atx config. Tests: - Gate on melektaus-atx through the renamed distro: CHECK EXIT 0, 307 files, 4756 tests. - e2e 60 on melektaus-atx: ALL PASSED, 20 checks. Renderer is the RTX 4070 through D3D12, so FEUERWERK_BROWSER reaches the GPU path. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Rename Game Maker to Feuerwerk and serve it at /feuerwerk/ (#422)
The editor gets a name of its own that fits beside Brandmauer, Glutspeicher and Feuerwehr. This is stage 1, 2 and 4 of #422: the name, the URL and the stored state in the browser. Repository, CI runners, containers and the GAME_MAKER_* variables follow in stage 3. - All paths come from SITE_PATH in src/core/site.ts: the API endpoint, the data folders, the play page and the base in vite.config.ts. A later move is one line instead of fifteen. - The window title, the sign-in screen, the playground and the README say Feuerwerk. The package, __feuerwerkPlay, the take worklet and the writing app in Ogg and Matroska follow. - The session cookie is now feuerwerk_session, so everyone signs in once more. - localStorage keys are now feuerwerk.*. moveOldStoredKeys copies the old game-maker.* keys over on the first start, so settings, panel sizes and save games survive. - tools/ci/serve.sh serves the build under /feuerwerk/. The variable GAME_MAKER_BASE_URL keeps its name until stage 3. Outside the repository, nockal.com/feuerwerk/ is a second symlink to the same tree. nginx sends the bare /game-maker/ folder there with a 301. Everything else under /game-maker/ is still served directly, so shared play links and the API keep working. Finding: when nginx redirects a path without a trailing slash or with a query, the Brandmauer answers with its own 307 to the same URL plus a slash, placed after the query. A play link would lose its token that way, which is why only the bare folder is redirected. Tests: - Gate on melektaus-atx: CHECK EXIT 0, 307 files, 4756 tests (4 new in site.test.ts). - Counter-check: when the migration misses the old prefix, 3 of the 4 new tests fail. - e2e 60 under /feuerwerk/: ALL PASSED, 20 checks. - From outside: /feuerwerk/ 200, /game-maker/ 301, an old play link 200. Play videos on sprites, converted on the server with clips (#402)
A video becomes an asset like a sound: uploaded once, converted to one format by a worker of its own, cut into clips in its tab, and worn by a sprite through its Texture row. Only Chrome is a target, without alpha. - Server: POST ?r=videos queues the upload under the hash of its bytes, so the MP4's name is known at once. The worker (VideoWorker over VideoFormat) writes H.264/AAC, yuv420p, constant frame rate, a keyframe every 15 frames, at most 1920x1080, with a poster and the details beside it. A failed job says why and is tried again on the next upload. - An upload may be up to 2 GB. It is streamed from the request to disk and hashed there, so php-fpm holds none of it in memory. The other routes keep their 256 MB. - The worker runs in the container game-maker-video on stein2, a compose project of its own (tools/video/), and in CI beside the PHP server. The CI image has ffmpeg for it. - Model: asset type video with size, length, frame rate and sound, and clips like a sound's. The clip helpers and commands serve both. - A sprite's Texture row offers videos and clips after the pictures. resolvePicture names a playing video by a key, and the texture library hands it to a VideoLibrary with one player per key. - The editor shows a placed video as a quiet preview. Play starts it over at its clip's start and lets it be heard through the master bus, a pause holds it, Esc makes it quiet again. - Video tab: the picture, a ruler, the clip strip and a track on the Sound tab's time axis. A drag spans a clip, a handle moves an edge, Play plays the picked clip. - The picker shows a video on its way with its progress and adopts an upload from it once it is ready. Dropping a video file does the same. Decided on my own: - Two sprites wearing the same clip share one player and show the same picture. Control per instance belongs to the follow-up with nodes. - A video plays in real time, the game's time scale does not slow it. - The container may use 3 of the 4 cores of stein2. Findings: - The first real upload (279 MB) got 413: the API's own ceiling of 256 MB for every request, not nginx or the Brandmauer. - Chrome has no picture of a video that never played, and a Pixi VideoSource drawn before the first frame stays empty for good. The texture is made in the first frame callback (openVideo). - A player nobody asks for in 2 s is let go. The inspector's PREVIEW asked only on an edit, so with the sprite not on screen its texture was destroyed under it and the batcher threw on every frame. The preview now redraws every frame while it shows a video, like a Time shader. A let-go texture keeps an empty source instead of none. - VideoSource.load() reloads the element and cuts off an earlier play(). Playing starts after loadeddata. Tests: - PHP videos.test.php: 68 checks, with the real ffmpeg - 300 MB upload through Brandmauer and nginx: 201 in 21 s, php-fpm at 13.7 MB RSS at most - Unit videos.test.ts: 20 tests - e2e 66 (stein2, atx was off): ALL PASSED, 18 checks; e2e 04 with the new asset count green - Gate (atx): 294 files, 4520 tests. serialize.test.ts used video as its example of an unknown type and now uses a made-up one. - Counter-checks: a keyframe gap of 30 fails the PHP check, a key that keeps the video's end fails 2 unit tests, a clip without its end fails "plays only its stretch" in e2e 66 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Snap to the grid from the start in every graph tab (#391)
Laying out a graph by hand mostly means lining nodes up, so the magnet was switched on in nearly every session. Every graph tab now starts with it lit: Behavior, State machine, Shader, Particles, Sound FX, Instrument, the song's Routing and the Routing tab. - SnapToggle takes the state it starts in and lights its button to match. GRAPH_SNAPS_AT_FIRST sets it for the toggles and for GraphCanvas alike, so button and canvas cannot disagree. - Curve and Vector Art are no graphs and still start without it. - New hook __gm.graphSnapping(on?) reads every graph tab's magnet, or "mixed" where button and canvas differ, and switches them all. - The e2e harness reads the magnets after each navigate() and then switches them off, as it already sets the zoom transition to 0. Most checks drag a node to an exact spot. e2e 45 does the same itself, because the editor comes up there through the sign-in. - e2e 06 checks that all eight graph tabs started with the magnet on. The checks in 06, 26 and 65 that read it off now say they read what the harness left. Tests: - Unit snap-toggle: 4 tests, 1 new (lit at first, nothing asked of the target before a click). - e2e 06 (melektaus-atx): 150 checks, 1 new. e2e 34: 134 checks. - Gate (melektaus-atx, together with #390): 287 files, 4397 tests. - Pictures looked at: none, the state comes from the hook. Record a take from the microphone in the Song tab (#342)
A song could only be filled with sounds that were made somewhere else. Record plays the song from the cursor and takes the input meanwhile, so a part played along lands on the bar it was played to. - An audio worklet takes the input's samples on the clock the song plays on. Each run carries the frame it was taken at, so the take is cut where the song was heard to start. The output's and the input's latency are taken off, as far as the browser reports them. - The take goes up as mono 16-bit WAV. Sound, a new track "Recording" under the track clicked last and the item at the cursor are one undo step. The sound is named "Song – Take 1", 2, 3 and so on. - While recording the take grows red with its waveform on its track, and a meter beside the input dropdown shows the level. The lanes take no edits then, only a middle-drag pans. - The loop is not used while recording. The song plays once through and on past its end until Stop, Play or Space keep the take. Esc throws it away and nothing goes up. - Echo cancelling, noise suppression and auto gain are off, nothing is played back. The input picked is kept in localStorage. - A take stops by itself at the size a sound may have. A failed upload offers Retry, Download WAV and Discard. - The API takes sounds up to 256 MB and bodies of the same size. nginx and PHP were raised to match outside the repo (body 256m, upload and post 256M, memory_limit 512M). - The pure rules (cut, cap, WAV header, name, track) live in core/music/take.ts. The scheduler tells where it started on the audio clock. - The e2e browser gets chromium's fake microphone and skips the permission prompt. Each run leaves its take in the sound store. Found on the way: - The header was too full with the new widgets and cut the track and item count on the right. Input dropdown and meter are narrower now. Tests: - Unit take.test.ts: 7 new, svg-icons adjusted to 8 toolbar icons - e2e 65 (melektaus-atx): ALL PASSED – 31 checks (+4) - Gate (melektaus-atx): CHECK EXIT 0, 252 files, 3923 tests - Probe on stein2: a 3 s take of the test tone, peak 32767, 285100 bytes, waveform seen in the screenshot Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Lay patterns and sounds out on tracks and play them as a song #334
Patterns could only be heard one at a time, in their own tab or from a behavior. A song lays patterns and sounds out on tracks along one time axis and plays them through the scheduler of #332, the third piece of the music tools of #330. - New asset type song under the heading Songs, with four empty tracks, 120 BPM in 4/4 and a grid of a bar. Tempo, meter and grid are rows in the inspector. Tracks, items and the loop are the asset's data, held to their rules on load and in every command. - A track has a name, volume, pan, mute and solo. Each is heard on a bus of its own, so a change reaches what is sounding at once. - A pattern item repeats its pattern for as long as it is, with a transpose and another instrument if wanted. A sound item plays its sound as a clip at its own speed, round and round, through a sound FX if wanted. Both have a volume on top of their track's. - Cut back at the left end or split, an item starts as far into what it plays as the cut is: ticks into a pattern, seconds into a sound. - The tab shows the heads with M, S, volume and pan, the ruler of the Pattern tab and the items, a pattern with its notes, a sound with its waveform, a missing asset red. Patterns and sounds are dragged in from the Assets panel. Body, right and left end move, lengthen and cut back, Alt leaves the grid. Ctrl+C/V/D/A, Ctrl+E splits where playing starts, Delete, arrows. A double-click opens a pattern item in its tab. - What is picked is a new selection of its own, so the inspector shows the item or the track, with a button to delete it. - The scheduler plans clips beside notes. Where the playhead starts or jumps back inside a clip, it is taken up that far into its sound. A clip fades out at the end of its item or of the loop. - The editor plays one piece at a time: a pattern started stops the song and the other way round. - The rules are pure functions in core/music/song, editor/song/ songView and songEdit. Show a wheel step or Fit as a short zoom transition (#309)
The wheel and the Fit button used to jump to the new view. Now the view takes a short way there, 200 ms by default, everywhere the editor zooms. The zoom steps stay the same, only the change is shown. - viewTween: tweenView is the way between two views as a pure function. The scale moves by equal ratios, and the world point that sits at the same place on screen in both views stays there. After a wheel step that is the point under the pointer. - ViewTween drives it on the ticker. A surface hands it reading, writing and drawing its own view and wraps its wheel and Fit code in change(). A step during a transition starts from where that one was heading, so quick steps add up to exactly as many steps. - Anything else that moves the view ends the transition. A pan jumps to the target first, and saving a view saves the target. - Wired into FreeViewport (Scene, Container, animation preview), SheetCanvas (Texture, Curve, Pixel art, Vector art), GraphCanvas, panAndZoom (Tile board, plugin node board) and the timeline. - Menu > General settings... sets the time in ms, 0 jumps at once. It is kept in this browser like the panel sizes, not in the project, and it is not an undo step. - A document that opens still comes up framed at once. The animation preview frames a new subject itself instead of calling fit(). - The pixel art readout names the step the view is heading for. Measured in the scene view at 200 ms on melektaus-atx, where every frame of the transition is a full redraw: - 500 sprites: redraw 6.7 ms, 16 frames, mean 18 ms - 1000 sprites: redraw 13.0 ms, 9 frames, mean 27 ms - 2000 sprites: redraw 32.2 ms, 5 frames, mean 58 ms Tests: - The harness sets 0 ms on every load, so the existing modules read the step and not the way. - e2e 46i samples one wheel step at 1000 ms a frame later: zoom 1.033 between 1 and 2, the point under the pointer kept at (134, -40). It lands on the view a 0 ms jump reaches. - e2e 46 and 49 expect the new menu entry. - Gate (atx): 234 files, 3563 tests, CHECK EXIT 0 (+15) - e2e 46,49 (atx): ALL PASSED, 43 checks (+3, sum 1735) - Three counter-checks fail view-tween.test.ts as expected. e2e 46i fails when the scene view does not carry its centre along. Make e2e 56 pass on its own, not only after module 55 (#307)
Check 56a-ii clicks the read-only value of a private variable and types into it. A read-only field takes no focus, so typeText found no input and threw when the module ran alone. In the full run the keystroke went into whatever input an earlier module had left focused, and the check was green by luck. - New harness helper typeBlind sends the keystrokes without checking where they land. It is meant for keystrokes that should be refused. - 56a-ii now also checks that no field holds the focus after the click (__gm.focusedRect() is null), the same way module 28 checks its read-only Asset row. - No other module types into a field that is meant to be locked. Tests: - e2e 56 alone: ALL PASSED, 10 checks (was E2E EXIT 1 before) - e2e 55,56: ALL PASSED, 27 checks - Counter-check with the second lock click left out: 56a-ii fails with a focused field and timer 9, three later checks follow - Gate: 229 files, 3514 tests, CHECK EXIT 0 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Draw a shader in passes with a Pass node (#301)
A Blur stops at radius 8 in one pass, and bloom needs a softened copy of the picture beside the original. A Pass node cuts the graph: what feeds it is drawn into a picture of its own first, and the nodes that read a picture read that one when it feeds them. - Pass has color and alpha like the Output, a Resolution setting (Full, Half, Quarter) and a picture output. Texture color, Texture alpha, Sample texture, Blur and Texture size get a picture input. Unconnected it is the wearer's own picture, so the original stays readable beside any pass. - picture is a port type of its own. It plugs only into a picture input, not even into an any port. - The walk shared by the compilers can stop at a node (cut). The shader compiler draws each Pass it meets as a fragment of its own, earlier passes first. A ring through a picture says Feeds itself, and more than 8 passes say so at the node. - A pass draws untinted. The tint comes on when the last part reads a picture, so a particle source draws its passes once for all of its particles (user decision). - A pass's picture is the wearer's picture and its Padding, at the pixels of the picture times Resolution, at most 2048 per side. It is read with the picture's own filter and continues past its frame as the Output's Edge says. - PassPictures keeps one render texture per pass and wearer. It draws again only when picture, size, Padding or a uniform changed. A field's picture is a render texture that changes under the same id, so a field draws its passes every time. - Sprite, sliced sprite, text, particle source, field shader and the Shader tab's preview all draw passes. syncShader takes a fixed picture for a 9-slice, which holds its corners but keeps the margin. - texelAt and blur take the sampler they read. Existing shaders compile to the same program apart from that argument. - A field shader's Blur and Texture size count a pixel as a unit of the frame (uPixelScale), not of the screen. Before, a field's blur grew when zooming out and shrank when zooming in. This came with #170 and #300 and is fixed here because passes inherit it. - tools/perf-shaders.mjs and tools/perf-field-shaders.mjs measure two passes with GM_PERF_PASSES=1 and GM_PERF_PASS_RESOLUTION. Below Full an open Pass shrinks the picture first, as the wiki's recipe does. Found on the way: - Destroying the pictures before the shader made Pixi warn that a texture was still bound. The shader goes first now, and a picture of a new size is resized rather than replaced. - Two passes in a row could draw plain white the first time. Pixi builds the code that binds a program's resources once and finds them by position. A pass of one graph is often the same program as a pass of another with fewer slots, so it bound a placeholder. Every shader now declares all 8 pass slots and its uniform group. Tests: - Gate on melektaus-atx: 225 files, 3480 tests (3467 + 13), exit 0. - e2e 28 and 31 on melektaus-atx: 97 checks (94 + 3) and 44 checks (43 + 1), all passed, no Pixi warning in the console. - 28l-vii: a Blur across, a Pass and a Blur down draw the 5x5 spot of a Blur of Both (difference 0.000). On a grey sprite a pass's picture added to the original is 231/60/60, each tinted once. Two Passes in a row after a graph with one show red and green, not white. - 31v-iii: a Blur of 8 fades a field's frame edge over 8.0 units at 50 % and at 200 % zoom. - Counter-checks: a tinted pass fails 1 unit test. Pictures never bound fail both e2e checks (spot 0.20 instead of 0.04, 243/158/158). Pass slots by the number of passes draw #ffffff, and a field without its pixel scale ramps over 16 and 4 units: exactly the two new checks fail. - e2e sum 1716 is counted, not yet measured (1712 + 4). - Measured on stein2 (HD 630, one run per row): 50 field shaders at radius 8 go from 11.4 to 41.3 fps in two passes, 44.4 at radius 16 (three passes at Half). 800 sprites at radius 8 go from 13.9 to 24.5 fps. At radius 4 one pass stays faster from 400 sprites on. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Put the text and boxes of the interface on device pixels
On a screen scaled to 125 % or 150 % the editor looked soft beside a page the browser draws itself. The layout counts in whole CSS pixels, and most of those fall between two device pixels there. The GPU averages both: text loses its edges, and a 1 px line becomes a pixel and a half of mixed colour. Now text and boxes are rounded to device pixels, and a line is one device pixel wide. - ui/pixelGrid.ts holds the rule. crispText() makes a text with Pixi's roundPixels, crisp() does the same for a Graphics of upright boxes, and hairline() is the width of one device pixel. - Every text of the interface is made with crispText() instead of new Text(). - crisp() only rounds where the scale is not a whole number. At 100 % and 200 % nothing changes. - drawControlBox, drawHeaderBar and drawSectionBand draw their lines a hairline wide and flush with the edge. The widgets that draw lines of their own do the same. - Two bands share exactly the line they draw, and a column still ends on a whole pixel. - The stage is nudged by 1/32 px where the scale is not whole. At 150 % every odd pixel is an exact half, and without the nudge one band came out a row shorter than its neighbours. - Curves, icons and everything of the game stay unrounded. Rounding their points would bend them. - The harness takes deviceScaleFactor as an option, and the hooks deviceColumn, edgeContrast and pixelGrid read the frame as the screen gets it. Not in here: the subpixel smoothing a browser gives its own text. Pixi draws a text into a transparent picture first, and there only greyscale smoothing is possible. Measured at 150 %, edge contrast before and after: top bar 31.5 to 47.8, the lists on the left 68.6 to 86.4, inspector 27.6 to 38.4. At 100 % it is 46.5, 90.1 and 37.9, and the picture there is the same as before pixel for pixel, apart from the fps display. Tests: - Gate on melektaus-atx: 206 files, 3114 tests (3104 + 10), exit 0 - Full run on melektaus-atx: 1655 of 1656 checks passed, smokes 24/19/21. The one that failed was a condition of the new step 62 itself: it scrolled an inspector that had nothing to scroll. The step now makes the window lower for that reading. - e2e 61,62 after that fix: 14 checks. The full run was not repeated, and CI is switched off for now. - Ten unit tests, nine in tests/ui/pixel-grid.test.ts - Eight e2e checks in the new step 62, which runs at 150 % - Eleven unit counter-probes fail tests - Four browser counter-probes fail their checks. They ran before the fix to step 62 and were not repeated for it. - Screenshots looked at for 125 % and 150 % Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Run CI on a WSL2 runner with the RTX 4070 (#283)
stein2 should stop carrying the full e2e run. The new runner lives in the WSL2 distro game-maker-ci on melektaus-atx and uses the same image and fonts. Its GPU sits behind /dev/dxg and Mesa's d3d12 driver, which headless chromium cannot reach, so the harness gets a second way to start the browser. - GAME_MAKER_BROWSER=wsl starts an invisible Xvfb and an X11 chromium on ANGLE/GL. Without the variable, stein2 keeps the headless Vulkan launch exactly as before. - The harness logs the renderer and stops on software rendering. Under WSL a missing d3d12 driver falls back to llvmpipe, which still offers WebGL 2 and would pass unnoticed. - The CI image gains xvfb. The font set is unchanged: fc-list gives the same 149 fonts with the same hash. - ci.yml runs both jobs on the new label game-maker-wsl. The stein2 runner keeps game-maker-ci, so moving back is one line per job. Findings: - Wayland on weston reached the GPU too, but drew at about 40 fps and let the editor clock stall in long runs (GM_STEPS=1-17: 2 failed). - Vulkan through a self-built dzn caps ANGLE at ES 2.0 because VK_EXT_provoking_vertex is missing, so chromium drops the GPU. - The flaky check in e2e 41 (#282) fails more often under WSL: two of three solo runs were red. Tests: - ./check.sh: 195 files, 2823 tests passed - WSL container, GM_STEPS=1-17: ALL PASSED, 553 checks - WSL container, full run: 1589 of 1590, the one FAIL is #282 - WSL container, smokes: 24 / 19 / 21 checks - stein2 headless, e2e 39+40: ALL PASSED, 100 checks Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Let Tab reach the game in the Game tab (#261)
The game did get Tab, but the editor moved the keyboard focus to a button at the same time. The next Space then pressed that button instead of reaching the game. The key field of On key down could not capture Tab at all, so an inventory on Tab could not be built. - FocusManager asks tabBelongsElsewhere before it moves the focus. The editor answers yes while the Game tab is in front, so Tab stays with the game as long as no field has the focus. - A widget can claim Tab through takesTab. The key capture button does so while it is capturing, so On key down accepts Tab. - The harness knows the key Tab. Found on the way: - The first version of check 20g left the Behavior tab in front, and module 21 then failed in the chained run. 20g now goes back. Tests: - ./check.sh: 2746 tests, CHECK EXIT 0. - e2e 20 has two new checks: Tab reaches the game and leaves the keyboard with it, the key field captures Tab. Both failed against the old bundle. - GM_STEPS=19,20: all passed, 44 checks. The full local run with all three topics of this push passed with 1543 checks. Add roles and a user management tab for admins (#180, #179)
Until now every account could do the same, and managing accounts meant running make-user.php on the server. Accounts now carry a role, and admins get a tab in the editor to create, rename, re-role, reset and delete accounts. Both issues share the same server files, so they land in one commit. #180 Roles: - Every account is admin or user. A missing or unknown role counts as user, on the server and in the client. - auth/session and auth/login return {user, role}. - Auth::requireAdmin() answers everyone else with 403. - make-user.php takes the role as a third argument. Without it an existing account keeps its role, so a password reset from the CLI never demotes an admin. - Admins see and save other users' projects like their own. Saving keeps the original owner. #179 User management: - The account menu gets "User management" (admins only) and "Plugins" (everyone). Both open the same closable tab, accounts on top and plugins below. The fixed Plugins tab is gone. - Per account: Rename, Role, Password (no old password needed) and Delete with a confirmation. "New user..." creates one. - Each account lists its projects with an Open button. - Delete is refused while the account still owns projects. - Renaming moves the projects along and ends every session of the account. transfer takes the same lock as save. - On their own row an admin can only set the password. The last admin cannot be demoted or deleted. The server enforces both. - The account rules live in AccountRules.php and accountRules.ts as pure functions, so they are testable without a server. Findings: - At 1280 px the Delete button reached past the column edge and was not clickable. The name column is flexible now, and module 49 checks the layout. - The server lets an admin delete other users' projects, but the editor has no button for it yet. Left open in the issue. Tests: - ./check.sh: 148 files, 2214 tests, exit 0 (was 147 / 2204). - New tests/php/accounts.test.php, 51 checks, plain PHP. CI runs it as its own step in the gate job, the host has no PHP. - New e2e module 49 with 18 checks. CI creates the e2e-admin account in serve.sh. Modules 14, 38, 46 and the scaffold follow the new tab. - e2e 1-16,37,38,45,46,49: all passed, 581 checks. - Counter-checks: owner on save, admin view, default role and self delete in PHP fail 7, 5, 5 and 1 checks. Unchecked requireAdmin, a wider column and the caller as owner each fail exactly their e2e check. - Check sum 1314 -> 1333 (+1 in 38, +18 in 49), computed. Load the 500 weight and draw missing glyphs as SVG icons (#214)
The theme asks for Source Sans 3 at weight 500, but fonts.ts only
loaded 400, 600 and 700. The browser synthesised the 500 text. The
issue comment also asked for the symbols the font lacks to become SVG
icons. A scan of src/ against the font's cmap found 20 such characters
in 30 places.
- fonts.ts loads source-sans-3-latin-500-normal.woff2 as well.
- Menus draw their ticks and the "current" dot as icons. The dot is a
new MenuItem.current field and no longer part of the label text.
- Inspector action buttons (reset, apply, fit width/height) are
icons. The menu arrow behind them is the drawn Dropdown chevron.
- Kind marks come from a table in markIcons.ts. Picture kinds use an
icon, # and Aa stay text because the font has them.
- Scene marks in the asset panel, sound play/stop and the transition
arrows are icons too.
- Apply is an icon although the font has the arrow. It sits next to
the reset icon and would look different as a glyph.
- A new Icon widget draws on redraw like Button, so Node tests need no
DOMParser.
- Tests find icons through the SVG id. The new hook
__gm.locateIcons(id) and the harness helpers findIcon/clickIcon
replace locate() on the old characters.
Findings:
- Weight 700 is loaded but the theme never uses it. Left as is.
- The old scene-mark check in module 35 accepted any play glyph on
screen. It now checks the mark on the start scene's row.
- Module 44 needs the textures from module 37 and fails without it.
Tests:
- ./check.sh: 145 files, 2187 tests, exit 0 (before 144 / 2143).
- New tests/ui/fonts.test.ts: every theme weight is loaded, and every
character in src/ exists in every shipped face. The cmap reader
matches fontTools (231 characters).
- Icon tests cover the 19 new files. Each kind mark is either an
icon or text, never both.
- e2e 1-16,22,30,34,35,43,44: 586 green, 0 FAIL, then 44 stopped
for lack of module 37. e2e 1-16,37,44,47,48: 618 green.
e2e 1-14 on the final build: 454 green.
- Two new e2e checks: loaded weights in 14, a reset icon pixel in 04.
- Counter-probes all fail as expected: 500 removed, a play glyph put
back, the struct icon removed (one unit test each). In the browser,
500 removed and reset icon hidden fail exactly the two new checks.
- Editor-suite check sum 1312 (1310 measured by CI at

The test browser keeps Chrome's default profile, disk cache included, and nginx sends no Cache-Control header. Right after `npm run build` a run could load the index.html of the previous build and test old code. It showed up while measuring the scene view pan: a new debug hook returned NaN although server and bundle already had it. - signIn() turns the network cache off via Network.setCacheDisabled before the first page load. A game can pause itself and set its own time scale (#167)
Until now only the editor toolbar could pause a running game. A pause menu inside the game had no way to stop the world while its own graph kept running, and there was no slow motion. - Five new nodes: Pause game, Resume game, Is game paused, Set time scale and Time scale. Pause and resume take effect on the next frame. - A game pause stops world time, physics, animations, particles and shader time. Only behaviors with the new "Run while paused" switch keep running. - Set time scale 0 freezes the world but graphs keep running, as agreed in the issue. - Play and Stop reset the time scale to 1, Load scene keeps it. The pause belongs to the scene, so Load scene and Restart unpause. - The toolbar pause stays separate and also freezes the menu. When the game pauses itself the status line reads "The game paused itself". - While paused, collision events are not reported, sounds keep playing, and the editor run ignores both nodes with a log line. Findings: - The first status line was longer than any before and got cut with an ellipsis. It is shorter now. - The e2e harness did not know the key "p". It does now. Tests: - ./check.sh: 133 files, 1968 tests, exit 0 (before 132 / 1952) - npm run build: exit 0 - GM_STEPS=18 fresh: ALL PASSED, 33 checks (before 26) - 16 new unit tests: 8 catalog cases, game-pause.test.ts, editor run - 7 new e2e checks in block 18i, driven by real keys in the game - Six counter-checks all bite: behavior filter, collision lock, world time, editor run, clock reset and the game clock in the browser - Check total 1217 in README is computed (1210 + 7), CI measures it Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

The topbar is icons only: the leading Project dropdown, the Scene picker and the labelled Play/Pause buttons are gone and in their place stand five icon buttons - menu, undo, redo on the left, play and pause in the middle - while Notice, the save state, fps and the Account menu keep the right side; the Play button swaps its icon for a stop square while the project runs and Pause swaps for a second play sign while it is held (Button.setIcon()), and iconSpace() drops the gap between icon and label when a button has no label, which is what kept a 24 px icon button 3 px off its own centre; the menu carries New project, Open project..., a separator and Project settings..., where the picker (src/editor/OpenProjectDialog.ts) preselects the open project and marks it "open", opens on a double click and puts Delete on the left of Cancel and Open - it closes itself before it asks whether to delete, because two modals on top of each other would have left the question standing over a list it no longer speaks about - and the settings dialog (src/editor/ProjectSettingsDialog.ts) holds the name, the "Play starts" switch (Start scene / Active scene, a preference of this browser and so no command) and the collision layers from #152, which retires CollisionLayersDialog.ts and the "Collision layers..." entry; what Apply actually writes is the pure function settingsChanges(), so renaming and the layers are each their own undo step and each drop out when nothing differs; the Scene dropdown falls away without replacement, the active scene is switched by double clicking it in the Assets panel, which is the way that was there anyway; new module 46 runs last with 9 checks (no label left in the bar, the run buttons in edit mode, the four menu entries, the picker with the open project preselected, Cancel leaving the project standing, the settings dialog on the state of the project, renaming with undo and redo through the icon buttons) and it neither opens nor deletes a project, because that would pull the project out from under every earlier module; modules 8, 18 and 35 and the harness follow the new bar, 6 unit tests cover settingsChanges and 3 the icons (#183)

Plugins belong to the project, and they load before it: the project file gained the field plugins: ["demo-plugin.js"] (default empty, no formatVersion bump), the Plugins tab's switch writes into it as an ordinary undo step (SetPluginActiveCommand) instead of into a server-wide plugins.json, and the start order is turned around - startPlugins only fetches the list of files, then editor.boot() runs and ProjectStore.load(id, prepare) hands the raw JSON through before it is deserialized, where pluginsOf(raw) reads the list and PluginManager.syncTo() activates exactly those; that is the point of the issue, because what a plugin registers has to stand there before normalizeGraph would throw it away as unknown (#126, #127), a project switch first stops what the new project does not name and then starts what it does, a file the server does not have is passed over silently, and after signing out the manager is dead so a late event cannot start anything in a torn-down session; on the server plugins.json, PluginStore::setActive, isActive, the route PUT ?r=plugins/{file} and the 403 for inactive modules are gone and GET ?r=plugins only answers {file, bytes, updatedAt}, which makes every plugin file fetchable - the consequence accepted in #117, written down in the wiki for #115 and #116; publishPlugins(root) only copies files now, the seeder switches the demo plugin on in the fixture project, and the Plugins tab carries a puzzle piece as its icon while only a plugin's own tab still goes without one (the knob and the socket are cubic curves, not arcs, which Pixi's parser draws as a spike after an L); 3 new e2e checks in module 38 and 5 new unit tests cover the project as the owner of the switch, its undo, the order, pluginsOf against crude input and an unknown file name (#119)

User management: signing in is required before anything is loaded, the sign-in screen is drawn in the same canvas (user name, password as bullets, Enter moves on and submits) and the editor is built only after it; the API gained auth/session, auth/login and auth/logout while every other route answers 401 without a session, projects carry an owner and a foreign one comes back as 404, accounts live in data/users.json with a password hash and sessions as files in data/sessions with a sliding 30 days, so a build under the open tab does not sign anybody out; Logout sits at the far right of the toolbar and, as asked in the issue, does not reload the page: Editor.dispose() takes the editor down while the canvas stays, which is why the autosave, the focus handlers, the window listeners of the tilemap panel, the shortcuts and the plugins all got a way back; the tools sign in as e2e (tools/lib/auth.mjs, password from GAME_MAKER_E2E_PASSWORD or the git-ignored data/e2e-password.txt) and the browser gets the same session by cookie, new e2e module 45 covers the screen, the wrong pair, the bullets, logout without a reload and signing in again, new unit tests for HttpAuthStore and for what a session leaves behind (#177)

A test that waits for a deadline somebody guessed is waiting for the wrong thing, so it waits for the editor (#93)
game-maker / suite (push) Successful in 6m48s
The suite spent 88% of its step time asleep: 564 s of steps, 496 s of
them in sleep(n) - fixed spans estimated by hand and then copied from
step to step. That is why it was slow, and why it flickered.
The signal is afterFrames(count, timeout) in ui/render.ts, exposed as
__gm.afterFrames(). It wakes the loop itself, because an editor that
draws nothing would never redeem a promise of a frame, and it gives up
after a timeout instead of hanging the run. settle() in the harness
waits two drawn frames (~32 ms) instead of 150-300 ms and falls back to
sleep(150) when the hook is missing (an old build): silently not
waiting would make every later check a coin toss.
Every action goes through it now - click, doubleClick, wheel, drag,
dragAsset, press, typeText, select, mutate, undo, redo - and with that
about 550 sleep() calls behind those actions became redundant, helpers
that are nothing but a mutate in a coat included. What a frame cannot
answer got its own condition instead: waitUntil(expr), play()/stop()
waiting on __gm.state.mode rather than on 300 ms, saved() for the
autosave (the two hand-written polling loops sampled at 300 ms for
something that arrives after a second), and showTab() as a real tool -
47 places called evaluate("__gm.showTab(...)") raw, and 24 of them
waited for nothing at all and read the old panel.
564 s -> 243 s of step time, the waiting share 88% -> 76%. Three kinds
of wait were kept, and each one bit when it was taken away: loading
bytes (textures, fonts), game time that a repaint cannot stand in for
(time scale, shader and particle clocks, the live values a running
graph carries), and the inertia the scroll step measures on purpose.
Two things the new speed uncovered, both real: 25-animation read the
frame menu unfiltered and had frozen an incomplete list (the CI failure

A game that stays silent is only half a game, so a sound is an asset like any other (#45)
game-maker / suite (push) Successful in 12m1s
Sounds follow the road fonts already paved: the file goes to the server content-addressed under its sha256, the project keeps a named asset that points at it, and nothing is ever re-encoded. The format is read from the file's own signature, not from what the browser claims - the same .m4a arrives as audio/mp4, audio/x-m4a or as nothing at all. Playing is two nodes. "Play sound" takes the asset and may raise or lower its volume; every call is its own voice, so two jumps in a row are two jumps heard. Its loop input is a choice of three - from the asset, on, off - because a checkbox has to spend one of its two positions on "not set" and would lose a case: an asset that loops could then never be played once. Below the graph core stays browser-free: NodeContext hands out an asset id, BehaviorSystem resolves it against the project and folds the asset's own volume and loop into the call, and only viewport/SoundLibrary knows about Web Audio. A run without a sink plays nothing instead of throwing. The CI browser is muted, so the ear is no witness: the debug hook counts started and stopped voices, and step 34 reads that counter. |

A still editor has nothing to draw, so the frame loop wakes on change (#44)
game-maker / suite (push) Successful in 10m46s
The renderer is taken off the ticker; the ticker itself keeps running, so the clock, a live world and the panels still get their step. Drawing now happens inside a 200 ms trailing window that every pointer, wheel and key event, every Widget.invalidate/resize, every Stack.relayout, every EditorState.emit and both library onChange hooks reopen. The window rather than a single frame is what makes the ~70 direct redraw() calls that never pass through invalidate() safe, along with repaints an event only starts: a microtask, a texture upload, a resolved font. Editor.movesByItself() keeps asking for every frame while Play or an editor run is on, a time shader is on screen, or the particle or animation preview is showing. The FPS counter now counts drawn frames over the time the renderer was awake. Idle seconds are not slow seconds, so it answers "how smooth while it moves" and holds its last answer instead of falling to 0 at rest. Measured on the built stand, 20 s per variant, CPU of all chromium processes from /proc: kept awake 75.5 % of a core at 60 fps, render on change 8.8 % with 0 frames drawn, awake again 83.9 % as an order probe. No colour check can see a missing repaint: pixelAt extracts from the stage on demand and is just as green on a screen frozen a minute ago. Step 33 watches the new __gm.renderStats() counter instead. |

Uploads carry the name the file came with (#83)
An upload sends its file name next to the raw bytes, and the server keeps it in a sidecar next to the content-addressed file. Both pickers caption every tile and row with it, and an asset made there is named after the file instead of "Texture" / "Font". Last upload of the same content wins. The API's own set_error_handler ignores error_reporting(), so @-silenced warnings still throw: a missing sidecar took the whole listing down with a 500. Existence is checked instead of suppressed. Fonts: a new asset type, picked from the server or dropped in, worn by text objects (#74)
game-maker / suite (push) Successful in 9m10s
A font asset holds a file and nothing else, the twin of a texture: the server keeps it
content-addressed under data/fonts/{sha256}.{ext}, with the format read from the file's own
four-byte signature (finfo reports fonts inconsistently across libmagic versions). A text
wears one through its ordinary Font property, so overrides, reset, undo and the Properties
node come for free; no font means the editor's own typeface.
The picker lists everything the server holds and renders each row in the face it offers.
The family name is gm-font-<hash16>, never the name inside the file, so two "Regular" cannot
collide. WorldViewport.syncText is the single place that draws it, which covers scene, game
preview and play at once.

Shader assets: graph-built shaders, the Shader tab and sprite rows from the graph (#62)
game-maker / suite (push) Failing after 3m59s
A shader is an asset carrying a node graph (Texture color, Output, Property, Color, Add/Subtract/Multiply/Divide, Mix, Luminance) that compiles to the GLSL fragment of a Pixi filter. The Shader tab reuses the Behavior canvas; a sprite wears a shader through its Shader picker, and the rows below it are the graph's Property nodes. Property schema, resolution and deviation take the project because a sprite's rows now live in another asset. The built-in registry of the prototype is gone; "Adjust colors" ships as a graph in the fixture and the three example games. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Run the gate, the editor suite and the three games on the Gitea runner
game-maker / suite (push) Successful in 7m31s
The job image (tools/ci/Dockerfile, label game-maker-ci) carries chromium with the Vulkan drivers, php-cli and the host's fonts; the render device itself comes from the runner's container.options, so a job container gets the Intel GPU instead of llvmpipe. tools/ci/serve.sh puts the checkout behind /game-maker/ with php -S and writes the project shells the seeders need; every tool now takes its server from GAME_MAKER_BASE_URL rather than from a project id repeated in shell scripts. Console panel: capture console.*, timestamped lines, resizable (#50)
A log layer (src/editor/console/log.ts) keeps a 500-line ring buffer and
wraps console.log/info/debug/warn/error, still calling the original. Notices
and behaviour runtime errors go straight to the layer instead of through
console, so editor tests stay quiet and errors can render red. world.log is
untouched: it is per-run structured state that runtime tests and e2e read
directly, not a text stream.
The panel sits under the visible tab, resizable with Splitter('y'), with a
CONSOLE header and a clear button. Each line carries its wall-clock time in
its own dimmed column, so locate() still finds the message text.
The taller centre area drops the graph fit zoom to 0.60, which broke six e2e
checks that assumed one screen pixel is one graph unit and that a fixed
offset from the canvas centre is empty. They now ask __gm.emptySpot(),
__gm.graph.emptySpot() and __gm.graph.zoom() instead of guessing.
locate/locateAll added the unscaled Pixi text width to the global position,
so click points in the scaled graph canvas landed too far right; they use
getBounds() now.

Drop the per-list item declaration; every item carries its own kind
A list no longer says what its items are. ListDef.items, ListDef.fields,
ListFieldDef.items and SetListItemsCommand are gone; the single seam is
src/core/properties/listItems.ts. JSON already tells number, text, boolean
and struct apart, so only two kinds need a tag: {"$color": n} and the new
{"$texture": id}. Field names cannot start with "$", so a tag never
collides with a struct field. On a data link a texture item arrives as
its bare id; the graph has no images.

asks for the kind, both are ordinary value edits (one undo step). A list
inside a struct field only offers the flat kinds because the depth rule
forbids a struct item there (ListAccess.kinds); the menu used to offer
it and silently do nothing.
Legacy lists that declared items: 'color' are tagged on load.
Actor demo: the four walk animations and four standing frames live in
two list variables of texture items indexed by facing (Item at), so the
graph can be rebuilt in the editor. The stand frames get their grid ids
back; 44 nodes instead of 46.
Also: the user's edits to on-start-during-play.md and the new note
reseed-because-of-list.md.
Verified: check.sh 794 tests, full e2e 631 checks, smokes 24/19/20.

Add a four-direction walk demo that seeds its own sprite sheet
tools/seed-actor.mjs builds the project Actor demo: it uploads tools/assets/Actor1.png, slices the 576x384 sheet into the 96 cells of a 12x8 grid (48x48 each, no remainder) and wears the character in the top left corner. Walking is four ping-pong animations of three frames, which is the original RPG-Maker walk cycle; standing is the middle frame of the row, not an animation. The graph pastes walk- or idle- in front of the direction faced and wears the result, so eight cases need no branch tree - the List node only holds numbers. Which way it looks is the key pressed last, corrected whenever only one axis is still held, or letting go of one key of a diagonal would walk backwards. Axis input already normalizes its vector. tools/lib/projects.mjs gains uploadTexture, since data/textures/ is git-ignored and a seed that ships its picture has to send it. The harness gains w/a/s/d and keyDown/keyUp halves, because holdKey cannot express two presses that overlap - which is what a diagonal is. tools/smoke-actor.mjs plays it in 19 checks and reads the drawn pixels at the camera edge, where the bounds hold him walking on the spot: three distinct frames walking, one standing. Edit the graph during play and watch values and flow run through it
The graph was only locked by five edit-mode guards in GraphCanvas. The running game reads the graph by reference each frame, so a new node, edge, changed value, disconnect or undo takes effect from the next frame. Stop discards these edits like everything else changed in play. A new On start node does not fire for a behavior that has already started. During play every data output shows the value it last produced, in the highlight colour and refreshed ten times a second. Values are kept per graph, because node ids are only unique within one; with several instances the most recent value wins. The Variables node reads the live variable bag, so only its own outputs are kept, as a snapshot. Each time an exec edge fires, a bead runs along it in 0.3 s, at most one every 0.15 s per edge, following the same curve the edge is drawn with. Beads run on game time and freeze while paused; the game logic is unchanged. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Replace the property nodes with one Properties node
Get/Set property, Get/Set properties, Set enabled and Set text are gone. A single Properties node takes a fixed "object" input; every chosen property is an output that reads the current value, and one switched to Set is also an input written when the flow arrives. Exec pins only exist while at least one entry writes. The node carries a type (Sprite, Text, Collider, Camera, Container, Behavior, Any) that decides what "+ Property" offers: the fields of that type, the variables of the chosen behavior, or for Any a kind to pick and a name to type. Each port takes the default and field of its type, so a Camera width starts at 640. Switching the type keeps the ports and marks those the new type lacks. At runtime the type is only an editor aid; the node writes to whatever object it gets. Old project files are converted on load. The type is inferred from the keys: the first object type that has them all, else the one behavior that declares them all, else Any. enabled belongs to every object, so a converted Set enabled lands on Any. The jump-run and tetris seeders use Properties throughout; draw-piece switches its cell on in the same node that sets the colour. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Replace the five variable nodes with one Variables node
A single node now lists any number of variables. Every entry is an output that reads the current value whenever it is pulled; an entry switched to Set is also an input and is written when the flow arrives. Exec pins only exist while at least one entry writes, and all inputs are read before any write, so one node can swap two variables. Get/Set variable, Get/Set variables and Variable are gone. Old project files are converted on load: each old node becomes a Variables node with the same variables, edges and typed values. A written port without a typed value now shows the zero of its kind on the node body, matching what the inspector shows and what the run writes. Consolidate duplicated editor code, trim comments, refresh README
Split GraphCanvas (1076 -> 831 lines) into EdgeLayer and graphMenus; the port and marker menus were the same list and are now one function. Value specs of the inspector and the list tab share valueSpecs.ts, and the remaining copies (compound commands, type glyphs, typed asset lookup, name rule, play/editor world setup, marquee) are merged. Four copies had already drifted apart; merging them fixes: - "Disconnect N links" in the port menu is one undo step, not N - "+ Add collider" is hidden on a placed container instance, as in the hierarchy menu, instead of always failing - a bool property coerced from the text "false" becomes false - a port command on an unknown node type reports instead of crashing Comment-only edits leave the bundle byte-identical. README corrected in 35 places (step limit, jump-run clock, suite duration, 409 body, ...). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Let a list hold structs, and read or write variables in bundles
A list item may now be a struct. The depth is bounded in the declaration
rather than by a comment: FieldKind (number|text|boolean|color) says what a
struct field holds, ListItemKind adds struct on top and says what a list
holds, so list -> struct -> primitive is the deepest storable shape and
sameValue stays finite. A struct item renders inline in the List tab, which
is why it needs no path in the slot address.
Four paths silently assumed a list item was a primitive: sameValue compared
items with ===, textOf would have printed [object Object], asListItem turned
a struct into text on Set item and Fill, and Index of used indexOf, which is
reference equality and could never have found a struct.
Tetris now runs on bundles. shapes is 112 {x, y} structs instead of 224 loose
numbers, piece and the candidate are structs, so Next move hands back a whole
candidate and each strand packs only the field it changes, since mergeStruct
leaves the rest standing. Declared behavior ports drop 49 -> 35, the master's
variables 18 -> 13, its graph 84/94 -> 69/76 nodes/edges.
Get variables and Set variables declare their ports from a list of variable
names, the way Pack and Expand already do, so one node can read or write
several at once. Renaming a variable rewires them, because there the port key
is the variable name.

Let a node work out its own ports
Ports that vary per node already existed, but only for the three nested-behavior
types, and the rule for them sat as a switch on type names in nested.ts – the
one place in the project that knew node types by name. It dissolves into two
optional contracts on NodeDef, so a type carries its own rule:
declaresPorts the node holds an editable list, shown as a section in the
inspector – behavior start/end, and now Pack/Expand
derivePorts the node computes them from its settings – Sequence from a
count, Run behavior from the behavior it names
Sequence gains an Outputs setting (2 to 26). Its keys stay a, b, c and count on
with d, e, so the edges of the sequences already out there survive.
A param can now take a port away, and the edge on it would stay: it draws as
nothing yet survives every save, and comes back to life if the port returns.
SetNodeParamCommand takes those edges with it, which also closes the same leak
that switching a Run behavior node's target has always had.
The port editor addresses its node by id rather than by type, so two Pack nodes
can live in one graph, and it calls the rows Fields when they are not a
behavior's signature.

Give the e2e steps one place to build their fixtures
Steps 18 and 20 both hand-rolled the same object-plus-behavior scaffold, down to lane offsets that nothing kept distinct. Step 19 claimed in a comment that it cleaned up after itself but never checked it – the only one of the four that did not. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Let a variable hold a list
A variable could only be a number, a text or a yes/no, so every set of values had to be smuggled through a string - which is where Tetris got its unreadable "03066326048763714" colours from. A list is now a value of its own, with an item kind (number, text, yes/no, colour) that decides how the inspector reads the one comma-separated line it is typed as, and eight nodes to work with: List, Fill, Count, Item at, Set item, Sub list, Join lists, Index of. Two traps came with it. An array is typeof 'object', so every place that told a value from an entity had to learn the difference, or a list would have been passed around as a game object. And a value was compared by identity in three places - with lists that marks everything as an overridden property after each reload, so those comparisons now compare contents. There is no list of objects: a list is written to the project file and an object is a live handle that no reload survives. A set of objects stays a list of names. Let a behavior be a node in another graph
A behavior that has a Start and an End node can now be dropped into any other graph as a node of its own. What is declared on the start node becomes the inputs of that node, what hangs on the end node its outputs; the port list is derived from the sub graph, not copied, so declaring a port in one graph grows the node in the other without touching it. The node carries the behavior's name and the palette lists behaviors by name, so a call is one grab instead of a node plus a dropdown. An embedded behavior has no object and therefore no place for variables: every call starts on the asset defaults and communicates only through its ports. That is the conservative direction - state can still be added later, and shared state already has a home in a behavior object in the scene. Node ids are unique per graph only, so each call gets its own pulse cache; without that, two graphs would collide. Renaming a port used to silently drop the value typed on the calling node. It is carried along now, project wide, like the edges. |

Give the graph a loop, and build Tetris with it
A Tetris example project needs to draw 200 board cells and scan rows for a full line. Neither is expressible without iteration, so the node system gets a Repeat node plus the missing text side: Substring, Find text and To number. The interpreter drops its data cache once per round -- otherwise every round would recompute with the first round's values. Object by name takes its name as an input now, not just as a setting; addressing "c" + index is impossible otherwise. An unconnected input reads the stored setting, so saved projects are untouched. The board itself is a 200-character text, "." for empty. That makes both operations of Tetris a single expression instead of a loop, and each frame attempts exactly one move -- rotate beats sideways beats fall -- so the fit check exists once in the whole graph. Pan with the middle button, select several nodes, and fit properly
Three things the graph view did differently from the scene view, or not at all: Panning moves to the middle button, which works from anywhere – a node under the pointer included, since NodeView now lets that one button bubble up. Shift-drag on empty canvas pans too. The left button pulls a rubber band instead and no longer pans. Nodes can be selected several at a time: by band, by ctrl/shift-click, moved together, deleted together, each as one undo step. The selection model gains `nodeIds` alongside the objects' `objectIds`. Fit really fits. It used to pin the zoom at 1 and merely centre, so a graph larger than the view always left nodes hanging out, and it sized every node with one guessed height although real ones vary with their port count. Both sums now live in editor/graph/framing.ts as pure functions, which is what made the defect testable at all. The band selects any node it overlaps rather than one whose position it contains, unlike the scene view: nodes are large rectangles, and a band drawn visibly across one has to catch it. |

Count clicks ourselves so double-clicks work at all
Pixi only fills `detail` on the `click` event it synthesises; on `pointerdown` it is always 0, so every `e.detail === 2` branch was dead code. Asset rows, hierarchy folding and select-all in text fields never responded to a double-click. A shared click counter in src/ui/clicks.ts replaces the three readings of `e.detail`. A finished double-click ends the run, so two in a row count 2 and 2 rather than 3 and 4. The harness could only send `clickCount: 1`, which is why no test caught this: every "activate" check went through Enter. It can send real double-clicks now, and five checks drive the three paths separately. |
